Unboxing New Loot Rules - Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Collector's Edition

We unbox the Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Collector's Edition.

Despite some hiccups, we here at The Escapist have been pretty keen on Diablo 3. Since it's initial release in 2012, Blizzard has been slowly refining the game. Recently, the much maligned Auction House got the boot and a major patch that addressed, among other things, the loot table have been introduced. A lot of this has been leading up to the release of Diablo 3's first expansion Reaper of Souls which went live earlier this week.

Speaking of loot, let's crack this open and see what's inside.

  • Diablo III: Reaper of Souls for PC/Mac
  • Behind the Scenes Blu-ray/DVD Set
  • Reaper of Souls Soundtrack
  • The Art of Reaper of Souls Art Book
  • Malthael Mouse Pad
  • Exlcusive In-Game Content

Obviously you're getting the game, well unless you're Wolfenstein. The Behind the Scenes content promises interviews, roundtable discussions and commentary. The Soundtrack is full of what you'd expect, lots of moody and swelling ambiance tracks. The art book, in grand Blizzard fashion, is gorgeous as always, likewise the mouse pad is a nice looking print of Reaper of Souls main baddie Malthael. This all comes in a big swanky box that you're probably used to if you've purchased any Blizzard collector editions before. Find yourself a nice shelf to display it once you've mined it for all the goodies.

It's likely the in-game content that we'll be roping most folks in though. For Diablo 3 you'll be getting a Spectral Hound minion to follow you in your travels and a number of items to transmogrify the appearance of your favorite loot into Maltheal-inspired ones. There are additional rewards for World of Warcraft and Starcraft II as well. WoW players will get a Treasure Goblin pet, wonder if it's any good for pet battles, and portrait and decals for Starcraft II.

And a new feature for my unboxings, a blunt trauma rating. Anyone who is a fan of collector's editions is well aware how big and heavy they can get. It sometimes feels like you could seriously injure someone if you whacked them hard enough with one. The Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Collector's Edition would be a somewhat flimsy

. It doesn't have quite the heft that previous Blizzard collector's editions have had. It's light enough to lift comfortably with one hand and while solidly constructed doesn't have that smacking potential.

You can grab this collector's edition for $80 or win it for free in our giveaway!

Man I really don't mean this to sound as insulting as it's gonna but i don't mean it to be cause I love the escapist. I think you guys might be the only ones left that are still excited about this awful game...

Erm what? Ever since patch 2.0 tons of people have been talking about ROS, and quite a bit of it is positive.

Oh... It's just I see these posts about D3 and they always have less then 10 comments, not all of them positive. Just kinda seemed to lack that thunder. But then again the web is an echo chamber and I guess one sees what he wants to. So I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I thought the first round of D3 was awful and it looks like they've corrected some things, but the always-online is a deal breaker for me. It predictably ruined my experience the first time around and they don't want to back down. I don't want the game on PS3/4, so yeah it could be that I've just been very very let down by Blizzard to the point where good news and buzz about this game just doesn't even register on my radar. Guess I shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Hahaha! No.

Patch 2.0, released a month or so ago, did wonders. Adventure mode, released with Reaper of Souls, is just tons of hack and slash fun.

If it still runs like ass every time there is bad weather even when I'm playing single players then HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Patch? What Patch? HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I don't believe you. I think you did mean to be insulting.

Well in that last one, a little cause well someone said "hahaha! No." and I don't know if I have to explain any further.

But in the original post, really, I wasn't. I love the escapist and I have genuinely not been hearing 'positive' things about this game outside of the games press. But as I said, I could be just caught in my own echo cause the net can do that sometimes, and that's my fault, if people are really excited, then I'm happy to admit I am wrong.

The artbook also has an AR interface you can download an app for on your phone or whatever.
Nothing groundbreaking, but its a nice touch and pretty fun to poke the models with your finger.

(And, no, it probably didn't cost an entire raid tier. Just a couple of 5 mans)
