Game 4 A Date: Helping Gamers Find Lovers

image

Looking for that special someone to go fragging with on weekends? The publisher behind Edge magazine and GamesRadar has started a dating service exclusively for gamer guys and gals.

Possibly perpetuating the stereotype that gamers are lonely, or perhaps just broadening the online dating market into every tiny niche they can find, Future Plc., the owner of gaming media magazines Edge and Official Playstation Magazine and sites GamesRadar and CVG, launched Game 4 A Date where gamers of all genders can look for their co-op partners for life.

Game 4 A Date describes itself as "a dating site designed just for you, helping you to find that someone special who shares a zeal for games."

Those who register an account for 1 Euro before February 15 will be entered into a raffle for a free PlayStation 3 console.

What is perhaps most sad about the service, aside from the obvious questions about why anyone would use it as opposed to searching for gamers on more popular dating sites, is that Future contracted the site out to WhiteLabelDating, a company specializing in developing niche dating sites. When I accepted the homepage's offer for a free soulmate search, I was redirected to WhiteLabelDating's search engine featuring users who are most likely also the representatives for WhiteLabel's other destinations RichLadyLove and Spice Extreme Dating.

Despite the potential ridiculousness of using a gaming-exclusive hookup site, if any young, female Escapist readers stumble upon "Logan Frederick" on Game 4 A Date, don't be afraid of sending him a pickup line. It'll work.

Oh, 4Chan are going to have a field day with this one.

When is this service going to be available in Hamburgerland?

I'm game 4 a date RIGHT NOW, dammit.

Yay, now we can all have Halo-themed weddings!

Bah, I don't believe in internet dating. Also it seems quite pathetic to me that gamers should need a special service while gardeners and potters (the people who spin pots, no HP reference) can use the coventional services just fine.

Because of the "Join for 1 Euro" thing, I assume it's just European...What? You think I? I would never join something so...oh god I'm so alone

weeps

I hope this comes to Canada, me so lonely :(

That's right Logan, you let the ladies make the first move.

Although I do hope that gaming is not their only interest or passion....dammit I have got to get more hobbies.

hmmm access to internet gamer girls for £1...I think id be happier with the £1

I seem to be the only one who doesn't have a problem with this. Online dating doesn't bother me (Though I've never tried it) and if you want your significant other to be the type of person you can game with, then by all means use the service. Geeky girls are the greatest, after all.

Yeah, they are going to tear that apart!

I'll start my own dating site. You pay me one euro, I'll send you directions to your nearest pub with instructions to pick a random chick and get her drunk.

Well, it might make some people happy. I say it's okay. I'm still going to use a more traditional method, though.

You know, I keep making profiles on these "personals" and waiting for a response from a real woman...and I'm still waiting. The only takers have been from Craigslist, and that's only after I've listed myself as "14/Single/White/Female". I don't get it.

I could have used this 5 years ago, but somehow I landed myself a non-gamer... who tolerates my gaming obsession. All the gamer chicks I ever tried to date never ended up liking me. Cest La Vie and all that.

Puts new meaning to the phrase "Pics Please".

I've dated on the internet before, it's not all that different from meeting someone in a bar. Sometimes you get some serious duds, sometimes you get some one night stands, and...uh, that's all I've gotten so far.

The trick is to go on a lunch date. That way, if it's going south, you just tell them you've got to return some video tapes.

I've always felt that searching for potential mates through hobby-related sites is usually the wrong way to go. Most people I know don't really want a girl (or a guy) to be into the same stuff they're into - they want someone who will like them enough as a person to also tolerate their hobbies, within reason.

L.B. definitely has the right idea regarding lunch dates - it can save all involved a lot of time, money and awkward evenings if it's just clear things aren't going to work out from the get go.

i guess i fall into that category of not most people :( darn....hahahaha i like people i date to be into what i'm into. also hate dating sites they never work anyways..... IMO some claim they do but...whatever, not for me

WHAT THE HELL IS 4CHAN!
I always hear about them.
Also I can find someone who cares about me. *I spend an hour making my account*
NO MATCHES
SONOVA!
XP

I don't know if this is pathetic or exactly what I have been looking for...

While this sounds appealing I have no doubt that living in a very small province in Canada will probably get me all matches in Ontario. Appealing but sorry I'll pass.... Unless you can guarantee actual matches in my province

Prehaps i'm sexisit, but this sounds like it'll be a total sausge fest. whats the boy/girl ratio of gamers like 90/10. But I guess you girl gamers who like guy gamers will be able to take your pick.

My wedding can be in Tolkien Elvish now!

I've always felt that internet dating sounds better on paper then in real life. I tried it once with really bad results, and as a girl it actually freaks me out to try it again. Seems that on-line guys only have one thing on the brain . . . or maybe that's just all guys . . .

Wow, the 3 gamers that are girls, single and interested in dating can pick out of 800,000+ desperate guys, most who will piss bolt at first contact.

I can see the point, but I can't see results.

Wow. Cool idea, but the closest I'll come to using it is using my school's Valentines Day matchmaking service, which everyone does for fun/curiosity.

I know enough gamer girls for a lifetime thank you. This seems a bit pathetic to me, anyone else agree?

I did online dating for a few months... met a few pretty cool girls, still talk to a few of them. Never found anything long term, but it was still worth a shot. I'm pretty sure someone would have better luck on a more mainstream site than this, though.

i agree. besides, sometimes guys on internet dating sites are creepy....heck just on social networking sites they're creepy too.....which is why i changed all my pictures from me or me and my friends to video game stuff or scenery.
