Report: Resident Evil 7 to be Revealed at E3 2014

The article suggests that Resident Evil 7 will not be an exclusive title.

While Resident Evil 6 was met with lukewarm reactions from critics and fans alike, its clear that given the staying power of the Resident Evil franchise, it wouldn't be the last game in the series. According to an article on the website of the prominent Japanese Economic newspaper Sankei Shimbun, Resident Evil 7 is set to be revealed at this year's E3.

The article also specifies that the sales expectations for the game are to sell over 5.6 million copies like its predecessor. It specifically mentions a PS4 version, but that still can imply that the game will be coming out on multiple platforms, much like Resident Evil 6. It's normal for Japanese articles to mention only PlayStation versions of titles they report on, especially in mainstream media.

We've reached out to Capcom for official comment, and while it is still a rumor at this stage, you can probably rest assured that a new Resident Evil title will be released at some point in the near future.

Yeah, I know most people who come into this thread will be here to say something like 'WHY ARE YOU WASTING YOUR TIME ON THIS GARBAGE THAT NOBODY LIKES INSTEAD OF MAKING A NEW MEGAMAN GAME!' or something.

But I happen to like the Resident Evil games. All of them. Even the new ones. So I'm excited.

i think its very certain that a seventh part will come. obviously they will take their time now and hopefully deliver more horror then action and maybe even make final conclusions with all the main characters we know. even when i enjoyed part 6 actually and till now revelations is my favorite RE title.

who knows, maybe leon finally ends up with ada and we can play as clair again since she was only available in CV and RE2. and if its true that this should be the final part, this can be a good sign as well that they realize that they are running out of ideas.

im gonna miss the giraffe

i wonder if capcom will learn the lesson this time around

Ugh another one. I have no hopes for this,0. I am however, highly excited for The Evil Within

I've enjoyed the turn towards co-op for the series, as along time fan, though six was still a bore. Hoping they do better next time.

"It's normal for Japanese articles to mention only PlayStation versions of titles they report on, especially in mainstream media."

Much like how it's normal for western media to only acknowledge Nintendo's existence when it's bad news or something to be construed as such.

I know this is jumping the gun. but I can already tell from the title card that this is going to suck. Probably something to do with "The war ends now." Since when did this whole shit needed to be a war?

i guess it would be a war against neo-umbrella. umbrella pretty much ran out of hiding places :p

I'm gonna have a have a guess and say that 7 will have micro-transactions

let's hope i'm dead wrong

Me too man, I loved the co-op aspect. It made the 5th and 6th games fun to blast trough with your friends. There aren't many good co-op games. Ofcourse I hoped there would have been more horror and stuff. But let's face it, since Resident Evil 2, this series has been more about action than about horror.

First game has been the only legimate horror game.

It amazes me how rare co-op games are, when it seems such an easy genre to succeed at. By that I mean: most of the fun comes from friends hanging out and playing with each other! Even rather tedious gameplay can be a lot of fun when you throw in co-op and a friend or two.

And for serious horror games I'm looking more to the indie scene these days. Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast both do horror better than any AAA developer ever has. Problem is: there's not a HUGE market for genuine horror, it's a niche thing, and that's fine. But to justify big AAA budgets you gotta go for action to get the sales you need.

Works for me! Gimme the pseudo-horror co-op Resident Evils and the niche indie horror titles! And who knows, maybe the Evil Within will break the trend and close the gap.

That was exactly what I thought when reading it. Another pseudo-military shooter with characters who already know what's going on and aren't even shaken by it.

Man, I know Resi 4 gets a bad rep from fans of the old series, but that atmosphere! You can see Leon visibly shake slightly as he fights an enemy he knows nothing about. You can feel the uncertainty as he walks forward, not knowing where the next Ganado is. Now we have battle-hardened veterans and fast-paced wars breaking out. There's no tension anymore.

I hope its more horror based than a crappy shooter. I would prefer if they went back to being like the 1st/2nd game. A new character trapped in a zombie city.

Please, please, PLEASE let Capcom have learned from the last game.

Revelations, on the other hand, was brilliant, and easily the best Resident Evil game in nearly 10 years.

More slow-burn creepy areas while conserving ammo and health spray and less helicopter's crashing into buses QTEs please.

Ah prease bringu back the suvivar erements Capoocom!

I love the Resi games and will be hyped for this one if they promise more ACTUAL zombies, and older style of gameplay.

Wait... so by that logic that would mean they're continuing the story after the events of 6, even after they said they're rebooting it and going back to survival horror roots...

You know what, no. This is Capcom.
As much as I expect something like Revelations from them, we'll probably just be getting RE6+1 with their definition horror instead and again.

Off topic-ish: The Evil Within just got it's hype back indefinitely. Thank you based Mikami.

For what it's worth, I still massively enjoyed Revelations AND Resident Evil 5. Shit on it storywise and whatnot all you want but I still had a total fucking blast with it. Co-op, single player, I don't fucking care, I sunk at LEAST 50-60 hours into that fucking thing and do not regret a MINUTE of it.

...SUCH A SHAME then that RE6 ended up being what it was. Leon's storyline seemed cool, combat mechanics were INTERESTING but everything else just felt so lackluster and just... not interesting like RE4 or 5 or Revelations.

RE5 was an acceptable direction for the series to go in, but not the way it went with RE6. 5 refined the combat and 6 should have added back the complexity and difficulty present in RE4.

Just remember people, just because myself and others liked RE5 doesn't mean we were saying 'Go full blown action game', okay? We didn't want RE6 to be everything it was, we just wanted more RE 4 and 5 was pretty damn close so we expected the same from 6!

I'm in the small minority that liked RE6 (I know right? don't sue me) so I'm looking forward to see how they will end this.

That is of course if this will be their last game due to the title there.

if the take a cue from Revelations I'm all in for 7
if this games starts Jill and Leon then I'll get hype as hell

Resident Evil: wiggle your sticks 2 will most assuredly be as well received as the previous iteration.

Every good Resident Evil was about you being stuck and on your own in some mysterious zombie/monster infested place. RE4 still understood this, despite the heavier emphasis on action. As soon as this series went global, starting with Resident Evil 5 and culminating with Resident Evil 6, it completely lost it's identity.

Considering they want to sell almost 6 million copies at least I assume this will be a spunkgargleweewee and of little to no intrest to me.

obviously they try to go back to its old roots. someone said in the RE4 discussion that capcom wanted to release RE7 this year but after the poor reception, they postponed it. lets hope thats true.

Loved RE4, bought RE5 & 6 as budget titles. 5 I enjoyed, but it wasn't survival horror. 6 I completed but it was so bleh.

The thing that irritated me so much about 6 was the forced camera angles, especially during intense moments. Capcom, I don't care what you want me to see. I want to control my own camera angle so I can best navigate these situations.

I'll breakdown by campaign since they were so different.
Leon: For the most part pretty good. Tone down QTEs though.
Chris: Um, no. This can work in a different game under a different titles. But not Resident Evil.
Jake and Sherry: For the most part pretty good. But for f***'s sake stop bringing back the same boss that very obviously died. If you want to have the same boss chasing the protagonist, make it so the protagonists escape without killing the boss character.
Ada: Meh. She had good gameplay elements, but I just don't care about Ada.

One more thing: LAVA/MOLTEN ANYTHING EQUALS DEATH. *P*E*R*I*O*D* If anything falls in molten rock/metal/whatever, it is dead. Don't bring it back. You have ruined the experience each and every time you've brought something back from a molten death.

as long as it's not as bad as RE6 and RE Operation Raccoon City were.. although this is Capcom and as Yahtzee has often said Capcom are idiots.. so I'll wait till it's released and review before trying it. it needs it "Not Shit" certificate before i'll play

I quite agree.

I even enjoyed 6; 6 is a poor horror game but it's definately and enjoyable co-op shooter for the most part, and you can have a lot of funw ith it that way.

5 is really fucking good even if it's unfair as hell at christmas on Professional, or any difficulty with all the insta-death nonsense.

Kinda hoping for a few steps back to a more ponderous game like 5 though, and masybe a proper single-player and then another mode for co-op.

Yeah 6 was a pile of shit, but 4 was fantastic, 5 was really enjoyable on co-op. A series shouldn't be declared dead because they put out a bad game.

Looking at the title design seems this one will be in the same vein as RE 6. Bummmer. The sales expectations aren't a vote of confidence either.

I thought they learned. Was I na´ve?
I'll hand it to them though, they are tenacious with the IP. Raccoon city, Revelations, Mercenaries,4,5,6. Always trying to reinvent the wheel. Can't always win when you're changing it up that often.

On another tangent "The War ends now" Hopefully that means a universe reboot is in the works.

I originally hated the very fiber of Resi 6 but then a STeam sale came along and my rig that was built last year could actually run the thing, along with a fellow Resi friend we both jumped in and co-op'd the entire game from start to end with breaks along the way (A few bugs that did require chapter restarts which was a pain that killjoy'd some of the good parts we had).

I do look forward to the upcoming title but I just hope Capcom don't go for the easier targets like Terrorists again (the Russians, Chinese,Africans, anyone not the US or the UK or allies of the UN basically).

What I really loved about the old days where Umbrella was in control was that it was a faceless corp that had top smart scientists and minds working behind the scenes of what was seen as a Pharmaceutical company, even the top scientists eventually turned on one another which eventually caused the company to crumble from the inside along with STARS giving them jabs for years.

Now it just gives me the image that it;s now all about Terrorists akin to those from Afghanistan and other places along with much more of a focus on mutations than the undead or undead mutations, now there's "clever" and more "aware" mutations which really just remind me much more of Dead Space and other Alien life forms that were more or less smart to begin with.

It was cool and interesting having the likes of the T-103 models and the Nemesis T-type because they were created differently and were made intelligent and also acted as mostly the main antagonist of the game series, but again now it's one guy who's mostly a nobody in the current series that happens to mutate once, then again and just trying to outdo the last mutation, doesn't really make it any more scarier or menacing.

I remember during the end of Leon's chapter of the story me and my friend were too busy laughing at how massive and disproportioned the boss had become to the point where he was practically Mothra sized and was more a parody and mockery than a worthy foe.

Casual Shinji:
Since when did this whole shit needed to be a war?

Since Call of Duty and Gears of War, I miss my favourite series of cheesy camp horror games!

Though what annoys me the most is how Resi 4 showed the potential for the series and then they wasted it with 5, which was effectively 4 but shortened, with none of the charm and all of the allmark Resi quirks replaced with COD/GOW nonsense.

I couldn't even play Resi 6 for more than 15 mintues, it pissed me off that much. How did they miss the point of the whole series so badly!? Did the committee designing the game even play the earlier games or even 4?

Honestly, I don't care anymore. I have the old games, the REmake and 4. 5 wasted the potential climax for a story so it's not like the new games have any real weight anymore.

Multi-million sales expectations for a horror franchise whose credibility has been hurt be recent events huh?
Well if history repeats, it looks like the series will die after this one.

Yes. Yes. Hallelujah fucking YES! I'm right there with you. The idea of seeing Resident Evil 7 at E3 is now the thing that I'm most excited about in gaming this year (The Evil Within now moving to second place). While RE6 wasn't that much of a survival horror game, I'd still say it's the second best third-person shooter I've played (Shinji Mikami's absolutely sublime Vanquish being the first).

I'm with you there. I enjoyed Resident Evil 5 and 6, and while I think they both had their problems, they were still fun for me to play. Especially with a friend. So here's hoping that they keep the co op campaign in the game. And perhaps work a little bit on their story telling.

Stop! Stop! He's already dead!

Well, heres hoping they'll realize what made resident evil 4 good (the humor, the enemy variety, and the fact that it was about as far away from umbrella as possible) and put that into the game. Let umbrella and the things around it die already.
