Dark Souls Director Named President of From Software

Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki has been made president of From Software.

At the end of April, Dark Souls developer From Software was purchased by Japanese publisher Kadokawa. It was a move that was likely driven by the success of Dark Souls and the increasing popularity of the franchise as a whole. That in mind, it's recently been announced that the studio will be undergoing a change in management that will see Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki claim a new position as the studio's president.

Miyazaki's promotion came as part of a series of personnel adjustments that additionally saw the upward movement of producer Masanori Takeuchi who worked on Dark Souls' predecessor Demon's Souls. Miyazaki himself directed both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls in addition to supervising the development of Dark Souls II. He joined the studio in 2004.

What will be interesting to see, of course, is how Miyzaki's enhanced role affects the company overall. Just personally, as a fan of both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, I'd love to think that his taking the reins of the studio will mean even more games in that same vein of hard but incredible RPGs. That said, we'll have to wait and see what his new real means and where From Software goes in the expanding wake of its acquisition by Kadokawa.

It's finally time now, right? Metal Wolf Chaos 2!

Nice. Dark Souls 2 was amazing even without him, but I'm really looking forward to Project Beast.

Assuming of course, that it is actually a thing.

So From Software is now going to be filled with death traps?

PRAISE THE NEW GLORIOUS LEADER! He directed one of my favorite games of the last generation. I look forward to seeing what the company does under his direction.

Metal wolf chaos 2 and Armored Core 6 is imminent? Please? *wishful thinking*

Having said that though here's hoping From will have a positive results from the change. They're my favorite dev since armored core.

INB4 "Dark Souls isn't that hard".

I guess this means only good things for the studio, high(er) quality overall for the entire studio.

I said it earlier, but I'm incredibly happy for Miyazaki, as well as FromSoftware as a whole. A guy who actually understands games and game development in charge of a company is wonderful, especially a developer as talented as him. My only worry is that he might not be directing anymore games because he's president (outside of Project Beast, if he is in fact the director).

Does this mean he will have even less time to devote to the DS franchise? Heaven knows Dark Souls II could have done with more of his touch, it turned out to be a poor imitation of its predecessor.

UNLEASH THE HOUNDS OF WAR!

OT:I' glad From promoted him-he deserved it.

IMO this isn't really good news. Presidents of companies usually are not down on "the floor" directing games and getting their hands dirty. Maybe things are different in Japan!

I expect morale is going to increase because of this.

"There will be a mandatory meeting at 11:30. It is also imperative that you bring poison arrows... I have two greatbow archers guarding the room the meeting is taking place in. Hope to see at least a quarter of the staff make the meeting on time... or never."

But seriously, congrats. Guy deserves this. And here's hoping he has more input because of it, Dark Souls 2 definitely needed more of his magic.

This I really hope they still make AC games or its not effect in a way that makes it a dark RPG game, dont get me wrong I loved Demon Souls and Dark Souls I haven't played 2 as to me looks more of the same and lack of funds at the moment.

Just because he directed the one franchise that finally got From in the lime light is that a good thing? Hopefully

I can only wonder how this might affect any new games from Fromsoft. I wonder what will change.
