Battlefield: Hardline Leaked - New Title With SWAT Theme - Update

EA has confirmed the existence of Battlefield: Hardline and is set to officially reveal it on June 9.

Update 2: We've received word that the Battlefield: Hardline QA tester who leaked the gameplay video you'll see in the prior update, has been fired.

Update: Neogaf has gotten its hands on some leaked gameplay footage for the upcoming title. EA has claimed that the footage is from an internal-only build of the game that is over six months old, and it has improved much since then.

Original Story: In this world of hardcore dataminers, there is pretty much nothing game developers can hide from the internet anymore. This time, a substantial Battlelog update were datamined to reveal a whole bunch of assets for an upcoming Battlefield title: Battlefield: Hardline, which will have a cops-and-robbers style urban combat theme. What's more, rather than just throw up the bog standard "we don't respond to rumors" response, PR has confirmed the game's existence, throwing up an official website and teasing a June 9 official reveal.

The datamined assets include weapon, vehicle, gadget and ribbon artwork, as well what the four classes will be (Operator, Mechanic, Enforcer, Professional) the two teams (S.W.A.T and Thieves), and at least two of the game modes ("Blood Money," and "Heist"). Check them out below:

The dataminers also found data suggesting that this will be another cross-generation title, meaning it should be released on the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and of course, the PC.

It looks to be a fun twist on the standard super realistic military shooters that Battlefield has become of late. Although, some of the biggest draws of Battlefield are the fun, high-tech military vehicles and gadgets, so I'm wondering how well this one will fare with the absence of jets and tanks.

We'll have more info after the official June 9 reveal. But in the meantime, check out Andrea and Escapist News Now on the topic:

Here's hoping they finish this one before they release it.

Oh my god, a battlefield game I would buy!

Seriously though, I love police themed games, and would play the shit out of this.....as long as it isn't as buggy as battlefield 4 was.

They should focus on fixing Battlefield 4 before pushing out another buggy messy game.

I heard this one is made by Visceral and not DICE? I love DICE, but this makes me more interested in seeing what are they gonna do.

Though, is it too late to make a new IP instead of attaching the Battlefield title to it?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It is sort of odd to set a Battlefield game on something that isn't a war torn battlefield.

Still, the idea is intriguing enough. Let's just hope they actually execute on it well rather than releasing a buggy mess.

Did anyone else get a Battlefield: Payday vibe when reading the article?

You are not alone in that feeling.

So... we're not doing a next gen Battlefield 2143 then?
No?
Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy...

That said Carrier Assualt takes some of the pain away.

My God!
Something new! And interesting! From EA of all things!

u guys ever wonder how many of these leaks are actually real accidental leaks?

Now EA's ripping off Payday and slapping the Battlefield name all over it?. Stay classy EA.

call me a tiny bit interested. as long its not a buggy mess as bf4, which i gave up playing, this could be a fun game.

Well this has been rumoured for quite a while so this isn't surprising. The police theme is quite a cool twist on the formula, so I might check this out as long as they do it properly and it isn't a buggy mess like BF4. Count me interested.

I also heard rumours at one point that this was being developed by Visceral, which is interesting.

Because Payday is the only cops 'n' robbers game that's allowed to exist, right? _

I play battlefield 4 on PS4 every day it isn't that buggy that is totally exaggerated, it is definitely in a playable condition at this stage and has been for several months. There is a bug where the one player campaign won't save which does annoy me because I need to do all that to get multiplayer guns. This would be a big problem if you only wanted the campaign but I imagine that describes very few people. Other than that everything else is manageable.

OP: This on the surface at least, sounds like it would have much less to offer than BF4. I would be interested in this as BF4 add on. I would need convincing of it having substantial content to buy this.

Glaice:

This isn't developed by DICE, it's Visceral Games, known for Dead Space and The Godfather. It's also probably been in development long before BF4s launch, which means they're not just gonna throw away a game they've been working on in order to fix bugs for another developer.

play it on pc. thats were pretty much most of the complaints are. its so bad that its unplayable. thats why i gave up entirely on this game. sure wasted my money on this crap.
but at least i have titanfall. this works flawlessly.

Well, when EA announced that Medal of Honor was getting killed, I predicted that EA was about to start releasing Battlefield games every twelve months.

I hate being right.

Between this, BF4 continuing to be generally awful and BF2 getting switched off, it looks like 2014 is the year Battlefield dies. That it managed to resist EA for fourteen years is impressive in itself, but that only makes it even worse, it's like losing a family pet.

That does sound pretty interesting to me, as long as it, as has been said, won't be released as a buggy mess.

The picture with all the vehicles quite surprises me, actually. Bigger than I expected. But it does make me suspect one thing; awesome bank robber chase sequences! Now that would be awesome.

Call me a conspiracy nut (be cause I am), but I think this is a project Visceral were working on anyway that EA have re-branded to Battlefield because it's instant familiarity to the unwashed masses.

Like how they started renaming everything Bioware a few years ago, but with games now.

If I was really going off the deep end, I'd hazard a guess that EA handed Visceral Medal of Honor 3 at some point late in Warfighter's development (since they must have known Warfighter was awful in advance and Danger Close would not make the next one), then when Warfighter tanked they decided to keep Visceral making the game but rebrand it at a later date.

Since Battlefield is the only truly successful FPS series they have right now, Battlefield it is.

Not a PC gamer so I wasn't aware of this. I assumed if they were patching the console versions they would be doing the same for PC ! I suppose it comes down to what you consider unplayable as well. On console there are still issues which I can get by but some people can't. Random killed in action when you are in a jet is fucking annoying. Also being shot when you are clearly around that corner ! The campaign not saving annoys me most I mean you would think they could at least fix that as it is a huge glaring issue.

What's a better name, Counter Field of Battle Strike? I'm leaning towards the latter.

Ok it is nice to FINALLY see something original come out of the Battlefield franchise, but I have one problem with it. The whole police theme does not really fit with the Battlefield franchise... Battlefield(as you can tell by the name) is all about warfare of some sort. To just slap a police skin over it wouldn't make the police theme truly fit. So, why even have it be a Battlefield game? Why not just build the game mechanics around the police theme and create a possible new franchise?

Probably because Battlefield is already an established franchise. So it's much easier for them to to slap the Battlefield name on it, rather than market a new IP.

But they would still have to market the police theme for the game. Not only to new buyers, but also to Battlefield players that like the military theme. Making a new IP means that they can target the audience that wants a police shooter, rather then trying to get another audience to buy into this one. Although, this is EA we are talking about here.

Change the name to The Thin Blue Line and have a character voiced by Rowan Atkinson and this would be an instant pre-order for me.

They...they turned Visceral into a Battlefield making machine! *cries*

There's absolutely no way that I'm going to buy this game that's not even made by DICE. Yeah, they fucked up with BF4 but their previous games weren't broken so yeah.

Feels to me like EA wants to follow in Activision's footsteps and have 2(or probably more in the future) studios working on yearly CoD and BF games.

I'm still on the fence if I should bother with the new CoD..depends what I see of it and that it's made by someone new I might give it a chance..haven't decided yet.

DarkhoIlow:

Hold on! It took me a minute...Visceral are the guys that made Dead Space, and then fell in love with their own notoriety and made Kratos' Inferno ahem...I mean "Dante's Inferno" and the increasingly cheapened Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3! I'll pass on this. I'm not a fan of the studio. Especially when EA is cracking the whip and throwing them another studio's IP. How did Arkham Origins turn out when Rocksteady wasn't at the wheel?

No, but there's a reason Payday comes to mind as opposed to say any other game featuring cops n' robbers that I can't think of, because Payday is the one that stands out most. I mean shit! the four classes will be (Operator, Mechanic, Enforcer, Professional). Is it that much of a stretch?

Battlefield v Payday

Operator: Mastermind
Mechanic: Technician
Enforcer: Enforcer (they didn't even bother being coy about this one)
Professional: Ghost

they did patch the pc version several times, but practically every patch they have released, made the game even worse. im dead before i come around the corner, shots go through cover or even buildings, rubber banding, constant freezing. even some crashes or drop back to win. if thats not a reason to delete this crap and never play it again, then i dont know what else can.

If it isn't made by DICE then it may have a chance of being functional.
That's all I have to say really but I'm glad that the tone of the comments about BF4 have vindicated my choice not to support DICE anymore.

I got more of a Battlefield: Tactical Intervention vibe, but yeah, it must be around that way.

Having seen the reveal trailer for Hardline.......the game looks interesting, but it should NOT be a Battlefield game. It has nothing in common with Battlefield except for the engine. There are going to be hundreds if not thousands of people who pick it up and are going to be disappointed because its not really "Battlefield" in any sense of the word.

They should just remove "Battlefield" from the title, divorce it completely from anything having to with Battlefield (except for the engine) and make it its own separate series; that way they're free to make the game completely how they want with no prior expectations or pre-formed ideas from being attached to Battlefield. And that if the game flops, it won't hurt Battlefield.

That is a real shame friend because I honestly think it is the best FPS around and the most fun to play (when working!) especially in a good squad with friends. EA have a bad habit of forgetting what they owe you after they take your money which will one day bite them hard in future game sales. Low customer confidence !

But, but, but...if they did that, how would the cash-in on the brand recognition that is the Battlefield name?

I don't know how you go from "I want to make a game about cops n' robbers" to "you know what's the first thing that I think of when I think 'cops n robbers?'" Pauses for effect...[Everyone in the room] "Battlefield!" And then they all began high fiving because being on the same page confirmed that it was clearly a good idea.

Why are we stopping here though? Why not "Dead Space: Hard Justice?" A cops and robbers game set in the dead space universe. Or "Mass Effect: Personal Affects." A cops n' robbers game set in the Mass Effect Universe. Or "Command & Conquer: Miranda Rights." Why bother creating and marketing a new IP, when you can simply throw the name of an established IP on there and have most of the work done right out the gate?

I know that when playing Battlefield 2 on Sharqi Pennisula, I couldn't shake this feeling of "I wonder what the local law enforcement, and criminal element get up to around here."
