New Super Smash Bros. 4 Character Will be Revealed on Monday

Nintendo will reveal the new character in a live-stream event on Monday, July 14.

Nintendo's steady trickle of Super Smash Bros. 4 information has until now been pretty inconsistent. Barring special events such as E3, it would reveal new characters and returning veterans on the official Super Smash Bros. website at seemingly random intervals. But now, game director Masahiro Sakurai is hyping a new character in a way he hasn't done before, announcing that it will be revealed next Monday via a live-stream event.

"Oh, by the way! I'd like to reveal a new challenger. Instead of doing the unveiling on something like a Nintendo Direct, we're going to live-stream the reveal on the official website on Monday, July 14, at 7:00 AM US Pacific Time (4:00 PM European Central Time)," Sakurai posted on his Miiverse account.

He also noted that "we're nearing the bottom of the stash of new challenger videos that we've made..." which makes sense considering the 3DS release of the game is right around the corner (it will be released in Japan in September).

So, what does this mean? Could it just be that now that we're in the "final few" character reveals, Nintendo are just putting the hype-train into a higher gear? Or is there something particularly special about this new character reveal? Keep in mind Sakurai specifically said "new challenger", so we're not looking at a returning fighter that has yet-to-be-announced such as Wario or Ness.

My bets go with Bayonetta - her new game is exclusive to a Nintendo platform and is releasing pretty soon. It makes sense, but then again, Wii Fit Trainer's inclusion proved that Sakurai is not really one for making sense...

Personally I'm hoping for Snake, Chrom or Lucina. Thought Bayonetta would be pretty freakin sweet, I don't really see how they could work her into what is basically a family game. If they are gonna include a Platinum character, it'd probably be a member of the Wonderful 101. As for third parties... Rayman or Travis Touchdown maybe?

They put Snake in it, and Metal Gear games aren't necessarily "family" games last time I checked. :P
As for the whole Chrom or Lucina thing, I still think it's honestly better just to make them alternate costumes for Marth if anything. I'd rather have Platinum representation in the game via Wonder Red or Bayonetta than more Fire Emblem characters.

Now to sit and wait for the possible hate. :D

Snake is different though. I don't really remember him swearing or being overly flirtatious or anything, and depending on the run of the games, they guy could be a near pacifist. Bayonetta is like a cross between Asura and Lady Gaga. She's been rejected from crossovers before: the Sonic Allstars Racing team said they couldn't put her in because of her vulgarity. That may be why they're completly screwing Samus over with the rocket heels and gimp leather material Zero Suit and the beauty mark and everything, they can't get Bayo so they're using Sammy as a stand in.
Honestly, I don't think Marth should have been in this game. He hasn't had a new game in years, half the audience have no idea what he's saying, and his personality is way different than in his home games. Lucina's much more recent and well known, well liked by the fans, would take very little effort to program because they could just copy paste Marth's move set across, and is voiced by Laura Bailey who is awesome because she's Laura freakin Bailey. I wouldn't mind her as an alt costume though. Ike gets away with it a little more because Chrom would be a lot different, but I still think he should have been replaced.

Some people are thinking it might be a Xenoblade character considering how Takahashi retweeted the announcement. Though maybe he's just trolling.

Dr. Robotnik, please? Him in his walker could give him a nice skillset, and now that Sonic's Nintendo-exclusive, I'd love to see more of his crew join the fight.

Please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk please be Bonk!
Of course, Proto Man would be pretty cool too.

From what I've heard, the Exclusivity deal ends with the Alternate Universe Sonic Games coming out this year (The Sonic Boom Games for WiiU and 3DS). After that, who knows what will happen to Sonic. Neither the Winter Olympic game nor Sonic Lost Worlds for WiiU and 3DS did well (especially compared to the Wii and DS games), so we could easily see Sonic go Multiplat again.

OT: I'm personally rooting for King Hippo from the Punch Out Series. Yes, they already have Little Mac, who's a small, swift heavy hitter that can't fight in the air, but King Hippo could be a slow, heavier hitter that is actually really hard to toss around in the air, thus kind of being Little Mac's opposite and increasing the Punch Out series roster.

Heh. Something just struck me. What if it's Bubsy? What if it turns out that the character they chose in favour of whoever you were rooting for is Bubsy "I can't believe they made a cartoon out of this" the Bobcat?

Sonic was never exclusive platform to begin with, the only reason Lost World was Wii U and 3DS exclusive is because of the deal. The next Sonic game be made by Sonic Team has already been said it's being made for the PS4 and Xbox One, and Generations was multiplatform as well.

Oh, hell yeah, gimme some Wonderful 101, Nintendo. I want to play as a swarm of Wonderful Ones- essentially just a less tricky Olimar.

I was referring to Sonic Colors, but that's besides the point. Thank you for also confirming to me that Sonic is definitely not Nintendo-Exclusive, at least not anymore.

Yeah, because of this, and the leaked character list not too long ago that has been right so far, I'm 99% sure it's gonna be Crom. Which...meh, I don't really care about. I just want to play the game already.

I doubt SEGA wouldn't make a port for the Wii U, as they tend to release their games on every console. When it came to Sonic Colors, that was another deal that SEGA had done with Nintendo really, and there are reasons why Sonic Colors was as successfully sold as it was (you know, besides not taking itself seriously, being fun, and having excellent music :3), and the main reason was because it was released at a point in which the Wii had so many customers, and was also released at a good time right before the Christmas season.

We don't take kindly to your kind around these parts...So, why don't you just move along?

I'm guessing it's Chrom. They have the stage from Awakening so it'd make total sense.

I think it's pretty obvious who I'm desperate to see in the fray:

Please be Simon Belmont!
No, wait...
Please be classic Simon Belmont!

Yeah... I have no bets to place on something like this... I mean, sure, at least a few users have said some characters that I would actually like to see be announced like Bayonetta or classic Simon Belmont... But, I literally have NO IDEA who could be the new challenger...

*Crosses fingers*

Come on Paper Mario... Come on Paper Mario...

I would love to see a character from a non-localized IP or an IP that hasn't had an installment in a while. The former is a major reason, mmaybe even the reason we have Fire Emblem outside fo Japan, and the former would be great to breathe new life into a series that hasn't seen attention in a while.

Personally, I'd love to see Shantae or Klonoa make an appearance. Hell, due to Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei, I can't entirely rule out an SMT character being welcomed into Smash Bros. Persona 4: Arena certainly sold well enough to warrant somebody suggesting it.

I'm kinda thinking it will be Chrom, but that they'll also reveal a Lucina skin for Marth in the same trailer. How fucking cool would that be?

I'm still hoping for Geno, even if it is a pipe dream. The guy was one of the more requested characters for Brawl, and with Fortune Street showing that Nintendo and Square can get together to make games again, it's not entirely impossible.

Still, from what I've seen of Shulk, I wouldn't mind him being the new character either.

I'd almost pay to see Bayonetta in a Smash Bros game, but I doubt it. Sexuality is integral to Bayonetta's characterization; I can't imagine her stripping bare-ass naked and performing some perverse sex bondage final smash on Samus's sensual nude form as the sweat runs down her voluptuous... what was I talking about?

This, I will buy a Wii-U for this.

It would be awesome if they pulled a Soul Calibur 4 and made SSB4 the first game that the P5 protagonist appears in.

It would be a shameless promotion of an untested IP, but I'd find it funny if one of the girls from Splatoon ended up being the new fighter.

Nintendo, it's time to let the Groose loose.

The moments I hate the industry: When an announcement for an announcement is treated as news :s (This counts for other industries as well, I'm looking at you movie-industry)

Please be Waluigi... or Poo.

I'm hoping for a Tales of Symphonia or Xenoblade character!
They would be so ready to jump inot this game.
First time in a while I'm looking forward to a monday :P

I'm really disheartened to see that the majority of these wished for characters, are in fact, 3rd party characters. Isn't three 3rd party guests enough?

Anyway, with 7-8 characters predicted correctly so far, it'd make sense to assume that the Genmatsu leak is correct and that the newcomer revealed will be either Chrom, Shulk, or Chorus Men. That said, the Genmatsu leak did fail to predict Rosalina and had a very broad prediction for Greninja (an X/Y Pokémon was predicted) so their may be more to be revealed than predicted by this leaker. Apparently the case of not predicting Rosalina was due to mistaking her for a Peach pallete swap, could another case of mistaken identity have happened with Chrom but in reverse, mistaking Ike for him?

Overall, whether or not the Genmatsu leak is true, I'm just hoping that we actually get a villainous newcomer. My hopes for Medusa are dashed with Palutena in, and I somewhat doubt Black Shadow's chances, so my hopes are going towards either Ridley or King K. Rool. That said, I doubt even if they are included that they'll be revealed this coming Monday, it seems the most likely newcomer to be revealed is Shulk due to Xenoblade's director re-tweeting the SSB announcement. On a whole, I haven't got much confidence that I'll be a fan of whoever is revealed, it seems I'll just have to be content with getting Little Mac in regards to my most wanted characters for this SSB.

Supdupadog:

Unfortunately, Dillon has already been revealed as an Assist Trophy. It was a real shame for me, he was my 6th most wanted character and the 3rd character in a row whom I wanted playable only to be revealed as an Assist Trophy (the other two being my 5th most wanted Starfy and my 4th most wanted, Ashley). Here's hoping he'll get a playable role in the next SSB.

Mr.Mattress:

I'm hoping for King Hippo as well, though I somewhat doubt he'll be included this game. As far as other Punch-Out reps go, I feel he'd definitely play with a greater difference to Little Mac than any other Punch-Out character.

I do love suggestions like these, and quite a few of the characters I want tend to fall into one of these characters. My most wanted newcomer of all for SSB is in fact, Lip from Panel de Pon. Whilst the Puzzle League series has made it worldwide, Lip has yet to star in any of the Puzzle League games outside of Japan, and I really hope she get's her chance someday. Hikari & Donbe from Shin Onigashima are both retro characters and Japan only ones, and I think they'd make neat additions. Bubbles from Clu Clu Land, Ashley from Another Code, DeMille from Tomato Adventure, Mach Rider from Mach Rider, Mike Jones from Star Tropics, Nintendo have so many IPs which either haven't made it worldwide or aren't too well known.

Sadly, from what I hear, the closest we may be getting to this in regards to this SSB is a character from the Rhythm Heaven series but I'm still not entirely convinced the Genmatsu leak is either correct or the whole list of newcomers.

I want it to be Bayonetta too!

I don't think it will be though

In that case, my second hope is for this.

Exactly what I cam here to say. Fans have been requesting Klonoa for a long time now, maybe they've decided there'd be demand for him? Or maybe Namco handed them a load of money? Would be all the same to me ^-^
