Oculus VR is Shipping Development Kit 2 Hardware to Customers

Oculus Rift Developer Kit 2 2014 310x

9,000 DK2 kits started shipping yesterday to all points except for Oceania.

Oculus VR has started shipping out Development Kit 2 (DK2) hardware to those who pre-ordered the rig, according to the Oculus VR blog (and VR enthusiasts all over the Internet).

9,000 DK2 kits are being shipped out initially, with customers in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Oceania (Australia and nearby) are not part of the initial wave due to shipping issues.

The latest public iteration of Oculus VR's virtual reality headset has been in the works for all of 2014. Its initial concept debuted at CES, and the official DK2 announcement was made during GDC. The new hardware includes a 1920x1080 OLED display (960x1080 per eye), a full set of optics, a built-in latency tester, and a CMOS sensor-laden positional tracker (the camera you attach to your TV or monitor).

Along with the new hardware comes a sizable update to the Oculus SDK. Version 0.4.0 is "the largest software release at Oculus yet," and includes "the addition of low-latency 6DOF positional tracking," as well as a new display driver.

Anyone lucky enough to be attending San Diego Comic-Con this weekend can check out a new Oculus-powered demo, which involves the Jaeger's from Pacific Rim, and Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.

Why does Australia keep on getting needlessly screwed over with pointless delays?

Damn, a friend of mine has one of these on preorder and we were hoping it would be shipped out soon. Typical of Australia to have some kind of issue.

Probably Abbott's fault.

When will we see the final product? I'll give you anything. Couple of newborns maybe? Can I have a set? Please?
