Dave Reunites The Red Dwarf Boys

The crew of the Red Dwarf will return to Earth this Easter when the show makes a comeback - 21 years after the science fiction comedy first blasted off.

Red Dwarf started out as a sketch on an 80s Radio 4 comedy series called Son of Cliche, in a similar vein to the beginnings of "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy," but from its original budget of £12.75, a cult was soon born.

To those of you who haven't seen the series, it features a space ship's lone surviving crew member (Dave Lister), accompanied by a self-obsessed cat-human (Cat), a weaselly hologram (Rimmer) and a subservient mechanoid (Kryten). It's kind of like a weird parody of "The Wizard of Oz," only with fewer ruby shoes and more ruby murrays (currys).

No news yet on whether Holly (Norman Lovett) or Hilly (Hattie Hayridge), the two faces of the ship's computer, will be appearing, but the regulars (Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn) have all signed up.

Written and directed by co-creator Doug Naylor, the show will begin a Good Friday weekend dedicated to the series. It will be followed by Red Dwarf: Unplugged - a "no holds barred" episode with no sets, no effects - and no autocue.

The weekend will climax with "Red Dwarf: The Making Of Back To Earth," a behind-the-scenes special from the new production.

The original series ran for 8 seasons, sold 7.25 million DVD and videos worldwide, broadcast in some 25 territories worldwide and won International Emmy and British Comedy Awards. Unfortunately, the movie hung in stasis for years and the American remake was deader than corduroy.

I was psyched when I heard The boys from the Dwarf would be returning to our screens! It's been far too long..

This'll be one to keep in the diary!

It's about bloody time! :D

This is definitely gonna be one to record that weekend. I'll be recording Unplugged as well... It's gonna look a little weird since Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn are older now but I think I speak for the fans when I say I don't really care :p

Robert Llewellyn came into my petrol station and bought a car wash for his Prius! :D

...Awesome... just.... Awesome! Of course this could be awful, but in this one isolated case... Smeg it, I'll remain optimistic 'till the end.

Dave now owns my soul....

theres a chance this is gonna suck, but who gives a smeg. There has been a movie promised for so long and the fact its gonna make a re-apperance makes me smile :D

My only question is if they are going to mention anything about the end of series 8 or just not mention it...and also is Kochanski going to be coming back?

While there is information coming soon through the link, I'm gonna go out on a Scutter and say Kochanski will only be referenced as Lister's love interest, and season 8 will be tied up pretty quickly.

Too good for words. Need to start watching the oldies again, surely.

It's returning to Dave? I didn't know they showed anything other than old episodes of Top Gear, Dragons' Den and QI.

......................Smoke me a kipper!

It could turn out to be good I imagine. Then again the last two series were a bit hit and miss, so who knows. It's worth a look anyway.

I have to admit to ignorance over these things, but I think it'd be great if all Red Dwarf fans hit the site and read up on it, and watched the new stuff actually on TV, to show support for Dave for doing this!

Just as well this topic has been necro'd now, since it's happening this week an' all. Schedule here:

I can't wait. I haven't been so excited for anything on TV since... well, probably just before they showed series 7.

Though I've only seen up to series three.. Cat is my one and only Hero..

All six of my nipples are tingling.

Of course silicon heaven exists! Where would all the calculators go?
