Throne of the Gods: Star Trek Captain's Chair Replica

image

The ultimate in nerd seating arrives in May as Captain Kirk's chair can soon be yours.

Before you open up your wallet, whip out your credit card and whisper sweetly to it, "Make it so, Number One," I feel that I must warn you. The cost of owning the most awesome chair in science-fiction history is currently listed as $2,717.01, according to its creators, Diamond Select Toys, striking fear into the heart of even the most devoted of Star Trek fans.

The nearly three grand asking price nets you the most accurate replica of Kirk's chair possible, as the schematics used to create it were supplied direct from Paramount. The chair itself is constructed mainly of high-quality fiberglass and plastic, and a newly-engineered base allows for full 360° rotation, so that you can bark orders at your house cats no matter where they annoy you. The seat itself features a leather cover and the wooden accented arm rests features a variety of working indicators and switches, complete with sound effects from the original Star Trek series, including yellow and the always exciting red alert.

If you're interested in obtaining this beast (And why wouldn't you be?), be warned, production will be limited to 1,701 pieces, as Diamond hates to round numbers up nor down. On one hand, that sounds like quite a lot for a $2,700 chair, but on the other, you know they'll go fast.

I want one. I'm not even that big a fan, but I like it.

And those are some very odd numbers.

I'm sure you could find someone to build you one for less than that. I mean how much would it actually cost to build one?

P.S. I've just checked their website and they sell replica flux capacitors for $275 (and "OUTATIME" license plates). i want one of those more than a captain's chair. I mean where would you put it?

Hel-LO! 1,701? 1701? NCC-1701?

Tsk tsk. Your nerd license is hereby revoked.

I respect that this is a quality, limited edition collector's item.
But damn that looks uncomfortable.
And 2700 can buy you a whole lot of chair, guess it's gonna be 1701 happy hardcore trekkies. :)

The price is definitely an homage to the registry number for the Enterprise.

On a somewhat unrelated note, http://screenshots.filesnetwork.com/8/potd/1185672776_34.jpg is probably my favorite fan made ship. It's the "Century" class USS Enterprise - F.

Hmmm. Using a TNG quote to pitch a TOS chair. Bwuahahaha.

Really, if I was going to spend that kind of money on a chair, it had better be Captain Archer's one from the NX-01 Enterprise. That one had style.

Same thing that I thought. This is pretty cool, although I think I would prefer one from one of the other series more.

Well...I got my captain's chair yesterday! I will say, it is heavy, LOOKS GREAT, and feels really good to sit on this nerd throne. HOWEVER, my chair did not come with any instructions, I cannot figure out how the electronics work (I don't think they are connected), and when I pushed the buttons on the right arm rest, the buttons actually pushed through arm and I heard them fall to the bottom of the chair! I felt completely powerless only seconds into my first command as I couldn't even go to "Red Alert!"

I wasn't happy! After accepting the reality that Scotty wasn't beaming down to fix anything, and realizing that I didn't have a single contact for any reputable captain's chair repair men, I called Entertainment Earth to see what could be done. They are working to get me the instructions from Diamond Select, and though I haven't heard back from anyone today, I remain hopeful that someone will have an answer to retrieve my "fallen buttons!"

Overall, this chair is pretty well made (with a few major exceptions in my case). It appears to be hand made, but for $2,500 it should be pretty darn perfect. Granted, I can make most of the sound effects myself, but after paying a hefty amount for this thing, I should have been able to fire phasers and open hailing frequencies without breaking the controls. Even Captain Kirk occasionally gave his intercom button a good "fist punch" without the button tumbling to the bottom of his hollow command chair!

A good purchase....sure...why not?...but mine was overpriced for what I got. I hope the other 1700 chairs that grace the living rooms and star ships across the galaxy have lights and sounds included!!! The chair comes with a complimentary miniature captain chair (Kirk figure included) complete with sound effects and phrases from the show. Perhaps their claim to lights and sounds only pertains to the toy version!....The only sound effect I heard was the "Whomp Whomp Waaaaaa" sound in the background!

If anyone has some answers as to how I can retrieve my controls and turn on the electronic features....may the "Great Bird of the Galaxy" bless you!

looks kind of uncomfy to me.

if i want a throne, it'd better be made out of skulls. Human skulls, of course.

I'm gonna take out a loan, buy the chair and a huge flatscreen TV.
Ill smash all of the class out of the TV so its just a huge black frame.

Then I'll charge Star Trek fans to sit on the captains chair, and everytime they say "Hailing frequencies open", I can pop up behind the no screen TV and pretend to be different hostile races.

It's the greatest money earner in the world.
