The landmark hit by Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital will soon be available on the PlayStation 4 with more new features than you can shake a bloody katana at.

PlayStation.Blog announced today that Hotline Miami, the 2D topdown created by Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedin, will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 next week on August 19th. The game, originally available on Steam in October of 2012, has previously been released on PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita with cross-buy support. Devolver Digital revealed back in March of this year that Hotline Miami would be heading over to the PlayStation 4 with cross-buy support, but an official release date was unknown until now.

According to PlayStation.Blog, the team responsible for the port wanted to keep it as close to "perfection" as possible, but at the same time chose to utilize some new features made possible only by the PlayStation 4. Players can now use the DualShock 4′s touch pad to look around and lock on to enemies, and can actually shake the controller to perform execution moves when an enemy is pinned on the ground. The sounds of the execution moves are broadcasted through the speaker on the DualShock 4 itself, giving the experience a more visceral feel.

Since the release of Hotline Miami, Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital have been working on the game's sequel Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number- which was announced in August of last year for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Hotline Miami 2 is slated for release later this year.

I guess it's cool that they ported it, though I don't think there's many people left who'll buy it if they haven't already.

The "shake to execute" feature sounds like more of a hassle, really. From my experience on the PC I know I prefer my executions fast - as in, frantically clicking away before the next enemy turns the corner and spots me fast - but I imagine there'll be an option to turn it off as well, so it's not all bad.

The "look around and lock-on" feature is already included in the original game, I assume they're specifically referring to it being controlled by the touch pad, which sounds a little more awkward and imprecise than using a mouse or thumb-stick instead.

Well... I've already bought it for the PS3, so I'd definately be interested in some kind of 'pay less for a PS4 upgrade' model that was used for the re-release of Guacamelee.

Awesome title, though. It's been quite some time since I was gripped so much by the atmosphere of a game.

It's free if you own PS3 version.

Finally! A game to truly take advantage of the PS4's graphics capabilities! ;)

In all seriousness, it's an interesting enough game, and I'm glad (given the lack of reverse compatibility) that they're taking the trouble, but the new features sound more gimmicky than anything- not unlike the Wii version of Manhunt 2, really.
