Minecraft is Getting Doctor Who-themed DLC

Doctor Who Minecraft

Now players will get the chance to dress Steve up as a Dalek and run around Minecraft yelling "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!" at various wildlife.

Last Saturday heralded the return of everyone's favorite Time Lord with the premiere of Series 8, and today the official Doctor Who website announced that The Doctor will be coming to the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft.

BBC Worldwide alongside Microsoft Studios and Mojang have collaborated to bring a series of DLC that will allow players access to a wide range of Doctor Who-themed assets, along with character skins resembling The Doctor's numerous incarnations and various other characters from the British sci-fi show. According to the website, the first pack will drop sometime in September for the price of $2.99 (or 1.99/€2.85 if you live in Europe) and will include a character skin inspired by the Twelfth Doctor, as well as five other Doctors, each of their on-screen companions, and the Daleks. As time goes on, more DLC will be released that include many of the most recognizable characters from the past 50 years of Doctor Who. Each skin pack will feature at least six Doctors and will be released concurrently with the broadcast dates of new episodes in Series 8.

"We're constantly looking for new and innovative ways to bring Doctor Who content to our loyal fans. Working collaboratively with Microsoft, we've created an exciting new product which will allow Doctor Who fans to create their own brand new adventures in the heart of the iconic world of Minecraft," said Rikesh Desai, Digital Entertainment and Games Director at BBC Worldwide UK.

I'm certain enthusiastic PC Minecraft modders could create this for free as well, amirite?

So why does console Minecraft keep getting DLC? Is the lack of restrictions the PC version has?

I didn't realize it was April 1st again, man time flies!

or...or...you could just get free mods on pc....WOAH!

Yes, we're going to do this every time a DLC pack is released.

Meanwhile, on PC:

Skipping over the beaten to death jokes of "PC has free player made mash up packs AND mods for whatever you want."
I wouldn't buy this but I'm not the target audience, I never saw a episode. I'm still holding out for the DC skin packs to rival Marvel. Everyone will be like "I'M BATMAN!" while I shoot them with my Bow and Green Arrow Steve. I'm sure it'll sell hotcakes though, seeing the following Who has been building up recently.

Inversely proportional to the quality of the script writing unfortunately ...

I must admit, I do have a temptation to buy this simply to have a Minecraft Capaldi to run around, and I can act out Minecraft Malcolm Tucker fantasies I may have. They mostly consist of swearing at things.

"Minecraft DLC" still makes me chuckle. You know all those console peasant jokes? Yeah when it comes to Minecraft those stop being jokes and start being a painful and sad reality of closed vs. open platforms.

You do realize they have a WORKING TARDIS in like 3 or 4 mods right? ...For free. Like you can also have a Stargate and space-rockets and aircraft and anything you can imagine and many things you can't. I just... i honestly don't understand it.

Sadly this won't come to ps3

Whilst yes, I can do mods, can't they release these maps for PC?

Notch promised PC Alpha users all the shit for free, and this conflicts with licensing a lot.

Plus, PC has mods, so.
