Perv on a Japanese Schoolgirl in Tekken Team's Project Morpheus Demo

Well, the Tekken team has certainly made its audience clear...

Oh Japan. I mean, I'm sure that when VR first started gaining traction, people were wondering how they were going to find more... perverted uses of the technology, but you wouldn't have thought Sony would use such a demo in its official, pre-Tokyo Games Show press conference? Well, that's pretty much exactly what has happened, as the Tekken team has used the press conference to announce "Summer Lesson" - a Project Morpheus game where you perv on a Japanese school girl.

Summer Lesson puts the player in said school girl's room, where players will interact with the girl... in some way. That's about all the solid details we were able to ascertain from the short demo, but it had a very, very creepy voyeuristic feel about it, particularly when the player would get too close to the girl and she would pull back in discomfort.

The player is also shown nodding, or shaking their head, in response to the girl's yes or no questions.

While it's not explicitly explicit, it's certainly somewhat... disappointing to see Sony appealing to such a base instinct, particularly with all that female representation in video games controversy flowing around the web recently.

The demo will be playable at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which we will be attending, so we will be sure to update once we've gone hands (or eyes?) on with it.

Why can't japan just get off its perverse fascination with a being a high school student with all its awkward bullshit. I'd swear that judging by their entertainment industry you'd think that life just ends for the Japanese man when he gets his diploma out of high school.
Life gets way more interesting out of highschool but maybe thats just for west. Maybe in japan you go to college and then march off to your 12 hour a day 6 days a week cubical job and stay there till you commit suicide in your depressing tiny tokyo apartment.

Because That's technically the truth, especially if you're just a run of the mill salaryman, handing off his paycheck each month to his wife.

I feel dirty yet I would still buy this.

It sadly works like that. The moment you get out of high school, you're into the slog of work, something japan is quite well known for. You don't respect your boss if you don't work over time either. Hell, if a worker sleeps on the job, it shows how much dedication they have for the company...

As for the video, I'd have to watch it first to be able to see if it is as creepy as this article states. But from the thumbnail, it reminds me of 3D animated hentai. Don't ask.

It's sad how true this is.

Also, it's Japan, of course the first thing they'll do with any technology is make porn for people from the west to import.

hickwarrior:

What needs to be asked, it's pretty self-explanatory.

OT: Well duh. Anybody expected Japanese game developers not to make something like this the moment they got their hands on a VR system? Ogling girls sells like hotcakes in Japan, just look at current anime. Sure, so it does in the West, but we tend to be a bit more discreet.

But yeah, to see Sony show it off at a prominent games con... They must wanna sell the PS4 in Japan pretty bad.

#1 Does it make money?
#2 Is it legal?
#3 Is it a completely optional purchase?
#4 Is it safe i.e. doesn't cause any direct harm to anyone?

If "yes" is the answer to all 4 of the above, then such things will continue being produced for the foreseeable future (#1 being key).

...and I see nothing wrong with that. I hope most logical people would agree.

Lol, actually one of the most well known Adult Game developer already has development plans by digitizing JAV Actress.
Playgirls by Illusion (Infamously know for the Rapelay incident), it's being made for the Oculus Rift though.

Meanwhile, someone over at team dead or alive is like: "Look at how small they were able to make those breasts! That really most be some incredible technology!"

I think it was revealed by another adult game developer, that makes 3D animated adult content, that they would use the oculus for something quite similar. I'd rather have a screen that's further away from my eyes, but that's personal taste.

Then again, Like I said I think, I have to watch that vid before I go on any further. Next I know, It's just harmless stuff really.

Pretty much.

I don't have anything more to say now since you said it except the bit of insight on Japanese salary man was kind of interesting though I have no idea if it's true.

I'm not surprised Japan leads the perv charge.

Then again this is probably quite mild compared to what we'll be faced with if VR becomes popular. I'll just leave that potential horror to your imagination.

That wasn't racy as I thought it would be. If the person is perving out using morpheus, it would be equivalent to person holding R1 during cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid 3 to get a good look at Eva's breasts.

Only a matter of time until the breast physics developers get their hands on the tech.

The unfortunate reality, and I realize many people will find this difficult to accept, is that if this tech or rather these devices want to ever have a chance of succeeding in a huge way then the porn industry - especially the animated porn industry (which yes is millions of times huger than most people posting here are probably aware as its not just japan in to this stuff in a big way), is going to have to do very well with it initially.

Porn actually helped people accept dvd as a format in a huge way. Online video streaming - again porn industry really made it become a huge thing.

Its a sad truth but a very real one; porn always helps drive innovation and acceptance of certain technologies. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the number one selling application for virtual headsets in the future is some kind of porn sim game.

Depressing perhaps but then that's humanity for you.

Oh no, people with their own opinions! quickly let's shame them for having sexual thoughts! Everyone should think the same, that's what the internet is for!

All hail the great public opinion overmind!

Reductio ad absurdum -

1: disproof of a proposition by showing an absurdity to which it leads when carried to its logical conclusion
2: the carrying of something to an absurd extreme

Straw man -

1a: weak or imaginary opposition (as an argument or adversary) set up only to be easily confuted
2: a person set up to serve as a cover for a usually questionable transaction

So far the most "shaming" statement made in this thread is the following:

If you don't straw man their argument or carry it to some absurd extreme, they are stating their belief that ogling a young child in 3D is not the most sexually perverse thing that will be made available with this sort of technology.

No one has commented on any one else's opinion. No one has shamed someone for sexual thoughts. No one has said we should all think the same or that the internet is for that purpose. No one has even hinted at any of the above. What you've done is project a persecution you imagine happening. Why? I suppose only you know.

A book is not a source for that claim; I won't link you to a book detailing American History to support my argument that Ford built a car. What you do is show a specific page or portion of text relevant to your claim.

Conjecture and hearsay aren't sources either, no.

Reductio ad absurdum and straw men are no more or less viable based on just what exactly upset you.

I would not say I'm smart; I only finished the 10th grade.

I don't want an avatar. I don't know why that's relevant, but there you go.

That looks like something I'll be importing in the future.

It doesn't matter I guess. I can't wait for this! Keep 'em coming Japan!

I want to highlight a particular portion of your statement:

Drop the pretense that there's a WRONG way and a RIGHT way to do tits and ass and just enjoy yourself?

The "tits and ass" you are referring to happen to be that of a child. Some people don't think there is a right or wrong way to "do" the "tits and ass" of a child. Could you explain what part of that "amuses" you?

I have no idea what you meant in your post, the only things I talked about is the tone of the article and the shoehorning of the cancerous debate in the before-last sentence, people have the right to do whatever they want with their talents and just because the japanese have different standarts on sex, doesn't justify dissing them.

Care to explain how one is not justified in stating a dislike of sexualized children?

Shoehorning of the cancerous debate in the before-last sentence.

Certain cultures have a long history of sexualizing young women and children. How exactly is this, an example of a young girl made to ogle in a video game setting, not relevant to the debate on the treatment of women in the video game setting?

How old is the character depicted in the demo/game? I didn't see where that was mentioned anywhere in the article, or the demo.

With the context, I suppose she could be anywhere from...say...13-18, which, by the way, is an adolescent and not a "child." Given that we don't know what grade the character being depicted is in, or if she's even an actual schoolgirl and not just someone dressed as one, it strikes me as very poor form to go responding to people with such nakedly accusatory language.

This is a Japanese high school girl, which means she's between 16-18.

In the UK, the age of consent is 16 and although I think the only appropriate partner for a 16 year old is someone within a couple of years of their age, I scoff when people from the US call them 'children'. They are young adults, well capable of deciding whether or not it is right for them to start copulating- and whether I agree with it or not, they are also well within their rights to decide to flirt with grown men and women as well. This is true in my view whether the 16 year old in question is real or fictional.

But that aside, you're conflating my comment with the part of this matter that it suits you best to conflate it with.

My chief objection is to the OP's complaint as regards "baseness", and when I say "there's no right or wrong way", I'm thinking of things like Dragon's Crown and other often maligned examples of hyper-sexualisation far more explicit than this.

Basically, stop having a problem with baseness. Everything that is fun is base.

Child is a perfectly fine descriptor for someone under the age of eighteen. Both Oxford and Merriam give many definitions, including the following:

"A young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority."

and

"A person not yet of age."

You're fully aware of the suggestion implied by the use of the term. Don't be coy about it now.

Would you say someone who was 13-18, with developed breasts, was not "of age" or "below the age of puberty?"

I'll be charitable and give you "age of majority," though that's a fluid definition that varies from country to country, and "of age" is just as murky, given that it can mean a few different things.

Again, let me remind you that the age of the character in question has not been given and that using the term "child" in order to incite shame in a fellow poster when you don't have all the information required to make that claim is, frankly, just a bit disingenuous.

Yes, I would and do refer to people under eighteen as children. The age of majority is a valid definition. If you dispute that, by all means. But your argument is with Webster and Oxford, not with me.

If someone feels ashamed of their enjoyment of this product or ones like it, that is their issue. Again, no one has said or done anything but state amusement, wonder or shock. Projection does not make for actual persecution.

None what so ever.

I'm less glad to see that you've completely avoided the fact that you do not know the age of the character, which, again, could be anywhere from 13-18 if she's an "actual" schoolgirl, dependent on grade, or well into her 20's-30's if she's not...nevermind the fact that the character is pixels.

Note the broad age range. It's there because we don't know the age of the character.

You've gotten me a bit down here though, so please, enjoy your morning.
