Want Some Free 3D Realms, Apogee Games? Enter The "Kickass Moments" Contest

Duke Nukem 3D

Record some footage, upload it to YouTube, and maybe win a game or 30.

Few developers helped define 90's PC gaming like 3D Realms, even if Duke "everyone's favorite crazy uncle" Nukem has fallen on hard times. But chin up! Because you have free games to win.

3D Realms is running a Kickass Moments contest. It's simple, really:

  • Step One: Fire up your 3D Realms/Apogee Software game of choice, from Crystal Caves, all the way up to Rise of the Triad (the new one, I mean).
  • Step Two: Record a worthwhile moment in said game, preferably at 1080p/60 (yes, even for the dustiest titles in the 3D Realms library).
  • Step Three: Upload to YouTube, attaching the "#kickassmoment" hashtag to your clip.
  • Step Four: Also load it up on Dropbox, Google Drive -- anything shareable -- in case 3D Realms wants to use your footage.
  • Step Five: ???
  • Step Six: PROFIT...in the form of t-shirts, and a bunch of 3D Realms/Apogee game codes.
  • Let's be honest for a moment...you were probably going to play, stream some games this weekend anyway, so you might as well try and get some free games in exchange, right? Riiiiight.

The contest runs through 8am ET on September 11th, and entires must be posted to this duke4.net thread. Good luck, my ROTT-happy friends!

When I first read the title I thought it said " Want some Free 3D Realms, Apology Games" As if my brain was saying they were sorry for Duke Nukem Forever.

"Want Some Free 3D Realms, Apogee Games?"

    No.

Does 3D Realms even know who owns their games anymore?

Do they have a list of the games they're offering? I hate doing the social media stuff, but a gog version of classic, side-scroller Duke would be mighty tempting... Ooh or stuff like Commander Keen! And Monster Bash! Or Hocus Pocus and Jill of the Jungle...

Great, now I have a nostalgia boner.

EDIT: Huh, it turns out Epic made Jill of the Jungle, back when they were Epic MegaGames. Learn something new every day! So Epic, if you wanted to put that on Gog, I'd be your best friend!

I was planning to record a bit of Duke Nukem 3D and Stargunner anyway, I wouldn't mind winning some free games just for playing older (and awesome) games :)

Also, Stargunner is free on GOG, so... yeah, win free games by recording yourself playing a free game! :D

I wish I still had the footage from Duke Nukem 3d where, at the Stadium, I soloed all 4 bosses simultaneously. That was pretty sweet.

Had some much fun deathmatching in that game with friends.

    Ahh, nostalgia.

No list of games that they are offering, but I'm guessing their library on GOG.com is a good barometer.

I was excited until I remembered I basically own all their games anyways :P

Well, I did pick up a full version RotT CD the other day at a thrift shop...

I think, at this point, remembering that 3D Realms used to make games that had "kickass moments" might just make me sad.
