Saw's Jigsaw Killer Returns

Saw's Jigsaw Killer Returns

While Brash Entertainment lies paralyzed on the floor, the creepy clown doll has been given a new challenge by Konami. Just in time for Saw 6.

For those that haven't seen the Saw films, the basic premise is that the Jigsaw killer (played by Tobin Bell) sets his victims a set of psychological games to play for their lives, generally resulting in varying degrees of torture and claret.

Though movie-based games are usually pretty terrible, one based on the Saw franchise has the potential to at least provide a scare or two - if handled correctly. An action/adventure putting you in the shoes of a cop tracking down Jigsaw, evoking a feeling similar to Condemned? Intriguing. A platformer where you collect jigsaw pieces or clown dolls? Less intriguing.

Brash Entertainment started work on it, shortly before disappearing with the game unfinished. Now Konami, which laughed off fear with the Silent Hill series, has taken up the task of seeing the game through to completion.

The real challenge will come from retaining the elements that fans of the films love, while balancing against the inevitable backlash from the "OUTRAGED!"; to all of you in love with the creepy clown doll, Tobin Bell will, at least, be providing the voice of Jigsaw for the game.

(If you've never seen Saw, here it is re-enacted by bunnies.)

yeah i kinda wondered what happened to that game, it could possibly be good if it set thing up like a saw trap and you have to get out OR you make one

i have always wanted to see a saw game, i might get it...

I just don't understand the point of a Saw game... the movie is supposed to be almost totally reliant on plot, and you're left to fill in a lot of visual and action blanks on your own. Even just trying to get through a bunch of Jigsaw puzzles doesn't seem like it would have that much draw. As least for me, that is.

It seems like a morbid version of the incredible machine to me.

The movies have always just been about torture porn :P. So the game won't be much worse.

I have very little sympathy for the saw franchise, from the get go it felt poor to me. Personal opinion of course.

yea how about a game where you play as jigsaw and make stuff to torture people

I have absolutely no expectations for this game. The Saw movies are pretty bad (except for the first one which was decent) and then you want to make a game based on those movies?

I think the first Saw movie might've been one of the best horror films ever made.
That said, its hard to see how it will transfer to a game.

really? i love them. some are better than others but as a film series goes it's one of the best. the game i'm not expecting much from but we shall see when it's released. they have an opportunity to make a great horror game, hopefully they wont balls it up.

I've only seen the first film and quite enjoyed it, I'm familiar with the latter.

I strongly suspect this will place you in the role of a victim in one of the longer-duration puzzles, perhaps with many minor elements to overcome (as opposed to the short-duration single-element puzzles of the films; the reverse beartrap, the saw-and-shackle, the razorwire, the safe-and-candle...) with exposition revealing just who you're playing as and why you're in this mess with each gradual puzzle solved, perhaps each puzzle/deathtrap reflecting an element of the "crimes" you're being brought to Jigsaw-justice for.

This would be a definite on my next game shopping spree!!!

There is no way they can do a Saw game unless it's a game in which you create the Saw house and all the challenges.

My god, Saw is at the 6th installation? You'd think they'd come up with a spinoff of something like "Everyone Hates Billy!" or something.

You remember that scene in Heavy Rain where you had to (decide to) give up a finger? The tension, the cold sweat, and the panic (if you actually went through with it)? Something like that would be great for a Saw experience.

Saw 1 the movie was interesting. It was a new take on horror and intrigue. But the series that followed was a steaming pile of filth. I believe a friend of mine refereed to it is Torture Porn.
