could it be because everybody already has a wii?
Sounds about right, as its covered in the article.
Maybe they just ran out of ideas for cheesy mini-games?
I kinda covered that point :P
Thats what saturation means.
yeah i seemed to have missed the last line, my apoligies maybe i should have said Could it be because there is nothing really special about it anymore
...wow. That didn't take long did it?
Over 45 million Wiis have been sold. To put that in perspective, 100 million people watched the last Superbowl.
everyone has a wii and know how much it sucks so they wont buy anymore!!!
People still watch Adam Sandler movies.
Lets keep this in perspective - this is only in Japan. In the U.S. and Europe, the thing is still selling like the Spice from Dune
The saturation of shitty 3rd party games have finally taken its toll on Nintendo. I hope.
sounds like a personal problem, I still enjoy the Wii and once everyone gets the PS3 and the 20 games that are out for it I'm sure the sales will slide for that as well, I have a feeling that the 360 may make the most out of this council generation because of its large library and relatively cheap price. Sony is going to have to REALLY try to get some profit out of this generation and I'm not saying they wont succeed its just not looking good so far. Indigo hit the nail on the head, you cant foresee the destruction of Nintendo based on one country, even if it is Japan. You need to take all of the perspectives in, the stores in my city are still having difficulties keeping the Wii's stocked. They all get claimed as soon as the delivery dates are announced.
OH MY GOD! IT'S THE END OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDD!!!!!! Yeah, I'd assume it's saturation.
Definitely saturation. I mean, who else is going to buy a Wii when nearly everybody has one?
You can only make someone shoot at a ducky target so long before they snap man.
i am a great fan of games (playing for +20 years) and a fan of games on any machine.
Ugh. Not to punch through your iron logic there but why the hell would you buy it again if you already own it? There is no such thing as a red wii of death...at least not unless you count STDs... BADUMPISH!
if i ever see a killer app game on the wii, i would have to buy a second one because i gave my old one away.
You say you've been playing video games for over 20 years, so I can only assume you are at least 20 years old, yet your username is a stupid masturbation joke and you make fun of the Wii for being childish. Seriously?
This certainly isn't the end of the world for the Wii. Like it's been said, the logical explanation is that just about everyone has one. But a lot of folks I know bought Wiis, and they are now gathering dust in favor of playing PS3 or XBox games. Why? I'd have to say it would have to be A)Nintendo's turn away from the core market to the casual one and B)Immense profits from said user base. While I can't really fault Nintendo, especially during these economical times, with going with the path of least resistance to the dollar, I've always wondered what kind of long term viability the Wii really has. Sure, you can move a lot of consoles, but if the casual mini-games run out and the lack of actual third-party titles causes a lackluster interest, then the Wii may have trouble in a year or two's time staying viable. Nintendo's only recourse with the Wii now is to move further along the casual game market and build its new core install base with them, because aside from iconic, well known characters, I haven't seen any reason to purchase a Wii game in months.
To mr. Jack off king, yes there a generation of 6 year old Wii gamers, I mean seriously think of it. If you give a 5-6 year old the choice between the Wii Remote and Nunchuk or the Xbox 360 Controller, they will most likely pick the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Firstly it's a lot easier for them to understand how to play because stuff like Wii Play is solely based on movement, which just about anyone can pick up, understand and play and still have fun. It's sad that you call yourself an Elite 20+ year gamer when you can't even understand the concept of a console or appreciate it for what it is. To Fnph. Oh SNAP you got him good there.
What I read in the Telegrah or Guardian was the finacial analysts expect the wii to be hit hardest by the economic down turn as it appeals to the very casual gamer. Now that money is tighter then ever, the casual gamer won't dish out the cash for a wii because they have other priorities. Even though the 360 and espeically the PS3 can cost more, they appeal to a more hardcore market who see those consoles as a main source of entertainment & so will spend the money on them. Should be interesting to see if this is a blip or a continuing trend.
LOL I need to pick up a Wii just to have one. I mean the thing is cheap and there are only a couple titles I'm really interested in. (Zelda, future new Zelda game, maybe the new Super Mario Bros) But why not? I can afford it. Plus I would like to try out the new Wii sports. The archery looks like fun. With regards to the casual gamer spending less money for the Wii and stuff. I think it will appeal more to casual gamers as they will not spend money on expensive recreational activities like vacations or new jet skis, but will rather spend money on video games as they are relatively cheap and provide many hours of entertainment. Isn't that why the video games market in the US is doing so well right now?
Doubt that, I mean the wii has sold like, what, 50 milion copies? The playstation 2 sold like 140 milion copies, so there should be plenty of people left to go.
Well how large is the Japanese games market?
In my opinion this was just waiting to happen. Don't get me wrong I like Nintendo and all but the Wii has been pretty "meh". There has been a major lack of "good" games. Wii sports is the only game that I can think of that I enjoyed playing. The only reason I would still want a Wii is to buy retro games which seems pointless at this time because most of the games they have put out have sucked.
My thought too. | |
Wii Sales Fall in Japan
Has the Wii's bubble finally burst? Sales figures from Japanese retailers show the Wii is the only console to show negative growth over the last week.
While it is far too soon to start shouting the demise of the Wii from the rooftops, Nintendo saw unit sales of its home console fall by 3,000 units, allowing the PlayStation 3 to close the sales gap between the two consoles from 12,000 units two weeks ago, to just under 6,000 units this week.
The Wii is showing the least resilience of all systems in the current slump in the Japanese hardware market, seeing sales slump 96,000 since the beginning of the year. It's not all doom and gloom in the Nintendo camp however, as sales of the DSi rose by 4,000 units, perhaps suggesting that the market for the Wii is starting to become saturated.
