Sega Extends Life For Two Dreamcast Games

image

Two more titles from Sega's final console have been resurrected - in the U.S. trademark office.

The Dreamcast hardware might have been discontinued in 2001, but even as we near the end of the decade the brands built during its short lifespan are being saved by Sega.

Rez, one of the system's most notable original titles that has since been ported to multiple platforms, and 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker are the sixth and seventh entries into the "Recently Updated Dreamcast Trademarks" collection. In the past few months, Cosmic Smash, ChuChu Rocket, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram, Sonic Shuffle, and Jet Grind Radio have all received trademark updates from their mother publisher.

While not guaranteed, the revivals of old brands often leads to their continued use on new platforms. With such a wide array of options (WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and handhelds/iPhones), it's a pretty safe guess to say Sega will be releasing some updates or ports of the products out soon, although I'm not quite sure how large the 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker market is outside of the arcade industry.
