You know, i have got to ask this question here: why only these 4 specific countries? i would understand, if you would limit the giveaway to just the US, since you're probably based there, but when you include ONE country in europe, and AUSTRALIA, why not at least the rest of the european countries? it kind of sucks that I cant win when im living closer to london then the distance between say, washington and new york.

It a legal thing.

US, Canada, UK or Australia all the laws pretty much work together easy (which understandable seeing as the other 3 are all former colonies of the UK).

The EU on the other hand has a whole bunch of different conflicting laws (even though the UK is in the EU it tends to ignore their rules and use it's own (unless the EU ones work better), which is why we don't use the Euro, and why UK citizens can live freely in any other EU country but other EU citizens cannot live in the UK without a valid VISA).

Appreciate the heads up good sir. The Escapist comps are usually full of fluff and annoyance.

well, my email provider is google, so pretty much EVERYONE who has the money has my data anyways ~~

> Play the game until I get a third gift
> Decides to buy a super polished desk
> Loving it whenever the "success loading screen" shows my office
> Suddenly, next time- it's stolen
> Have to fill out papers while getting drunk for desk insurance
> After completion, they denied me thus I never got my beautiful desk back

Perfect game, if you're a Yahtzee fan. 10 / 10

These social media-based giveaway things always rub me the wrong way. I know it's kind of a standard practice now but they always just seem so... dirty.

I don't "get" the game.

I get the feeling it's downright obnoxious, even though I'm a ZP fan.

Aw man... I want to enter this because it's Hatfall, but...

I keep having the same thoughts as Dango right now... #HatfallFails

Thanks for nothing Escapists. You guys do know that there is also the freaking rest of the world?

We do! Rest assured we try our best to create contests for as many people as possible. Unfortunately, contest/giveaways/sweepstakes rules and import/export laws in much of the rest of the world prohibit us from including every country.

Is there a non-social media option? I would happily prefer to pay like a raffle instead of give away rights to my data. It feels a little wrong for some reason.

Honestly, that is not exactly what that says. In section 2 of the legal, it states "By participating in the Contest, you acknowledge that you have reviewed and agree to Sponsor's Privacy Policy found at http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/privacy which governs the collection, use and disclosure by Sponsor of your personal information, including without limitation, your name, date of birth, email address and address."

If you read our Privacy Policy, it explicitly states "We use your personal information to provide you with products or services that you have requested, to respond to questions or communications and to get in touch with you when necessary...We will not share with third parties the personal information you provide except (a) if it is for the purpose(s) you provided it; (b) with your consent; (c) as may be required by law or as we think necessary to protect our company or others from injury (e.g. in response to a court order or subpoena, in response to a law enforcement agency request or when we believe that someone is causing (or about to cause) injury to or interference with the rights or property of another); (d) with other persons, service providers or companies with whom we contract to carry out internal site operations or our business activities (for example, sending out a product or a promotional item that you have requested on the Site); and/or (e) notifying you when we make material changes to one of our subscriber agreements or this policy."

We will not spam you. We will not sell your information.

That section in the legal allows us to do two thing. First, contact you if you win and make the necessary arrangements to send you your prize. Second, share any of the pictures or videos used to enter the contest.

Well I don't want to insult anyone, but it doesn't really feel like you guys are trying. Since march 2011 when I joined, every single contest that I've seen was limited to either just US/Canada or the 4 countries previously listed. I would even kinda understand if some countries like mine weren't in, but seeing the EU not in makes it even harder to believe. I know several sites that have contests with digital and physical prices that are world wide.

Your site, your prices, you can do what you want. Just saying how it feels.

As much as I'm sure less than 500 people will enter (unless it gets viral) I really don't want to have to go through the work of making a clever video that associates a joke related to the playing of hatfall.

Or I may not even be capable.

Not in New Zealand, curses foiled again.

Woo! Marketing!

Fun and amusing hat game. Not interested in the one-in-a-million chance sweepstakes. To date, my best sweepstakes wins involved the use of the head-brain a little, so that I had a chance of winning because of skill along with chance.

Question: When taking the picture/video, do we have to be in it or can we take a screen cap of the game on our computer and send that in?

s0osleepie:

Hey Janelle, is the winner chosen randomly? Or is this a photo contest wherein the photo judged best wins?

I want to know before I take my picture.

I was wondering this myself. Not interested in taking a picture of myself for the world to see. I didn't even let anybody get pictures of me during the Escapist Expo!

Rules state that it's chosen randomly:

1. CONTEST. The objective is for participants to enter for a random chance to win the following prizes

You can also simply upload a picture / screenshot of you playing the game, link them the sweet pic and you're in. If everyone had to upload a video about them playing Hatfall, it'd be to much of a pain for those who lack the equipment / recording equipment.

Do make sure the screenshot / picture is of you doing something radical though. I had my picture taken of the wizard blushing as I aced his test. Though I can't get past round 14 because all of those clones throwing me off and s*** hitting the fan.

Ah, I should have actually read, as opposed to skimming. My bad.

I wondered this and compromised by having only my thumb in the shot.

I do have the appropriate camera for the arrangement. Hmmmm, I guess I could.

DDR3? People still use that? You're not truly PC master race unless you use at least DDR4 for base memory. If I was to win this rig I'd likely pass it on to my nephew, the only person besides myself in my family that might not load it down with bloat, trojans, and malware, requiring me to fix it and possibly /format c: every 2 months. Sadly I'm about as photogenic as this guy -

so no, I won't be sending an entry with an actual photograph. The terror could blind millions and haunt children for centuries and this I cannot allow.

Remus:
DDR3? People still use that? You're not truly PC master race unless you use at least DDR4 for base memory.

you're joking, right? most ddr4 is double the price of ddr3 counterparts while offering single digit percent increases in bandwidth performance, and unless you have a shit ton of computers (such as a server farm/big ass company) then the energy efficiency/price savings is negligible for the average user and/or gamer.

It'll be a nice step up when it becomes cheaper and more widely used, definitely, but I have yet to see any of my gamer friends on here or IRL even consider going to DDR4 yet.

OT: meh this is a nice give away, but I don't care enough to do all the social media uploading/sending in part for a computer that's only relatively better than mine in a couple spots, good luck to anyone who's looking for a new rig though.

We have to buy the game first just for a chance to enter? Then on top of that we'd have to take a photo of ourselves and then actually upload it to social media? This has to be the stupidest idea for a competition I've ever heard.

Yup, welcome to the geek community. You have your introverts and your extroverts. Us introverts aren't photographed anywhere, not even by our own family. The extroverts? As the Oracle said, we hear about them all the time. Whenever you hear a story about a youtuber making millions or a startup selling out to microsoft, that's a geek that has evolved past old structures, limits, and boundaries. I however am as introverted as ever and refuse to compromise even on my own behalf.

Very much do want...

Just noticed it says you need the #Hatfall in the article but not in the rules. Well crap I dun goof'd hard, so I think I am screwed.

I hope I did that right because XCOM 2 exists and therefore I need a PC to play it on.

The contest was posted to end at 23:59 tonight, but it says it has already ended. What gives!?!
