Don't Stop Mario Now

Don't Stop Mario Now

Who knew that gaming's most famous plumber and the dulcet tones of Freddie Mercury would make such a natural combination? At least one fan did, setting footage from Super Mario Galaxy to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" in an almost commercial-quality video that's sure to help you ease into your work day.

Now, it's certainly no secret that the vast majority of fan-made Anime Music Videos (AMVs) are utter crap. All you need is one look around YouTube to tell you that - though sometimes there are pleasant exceptions to the rule.

When 95 out of every 100 or so fan-made music videos are awful, it makes the rare gems all that more valuable. In all honesty, I can't quite say exactly what it is that makes this one particular tribute to Super Mario Galaxy so very compelling. Yeah, Queen is awesome, and SMG is easily one of the best games this console generation, but the two just blend together so damn well. Perhaps it's that both the game and the song just seem so damn exuberant and joyful, making one very natural fit.

The video's creator clearly has an eye for putting this sort of thing together, too - there are a bunch of other nifty videogame music videos in his collection. I'm digging Zelda: Majora's Mask set to Sonata Arctica, myself.

Ooooo, can we post links to favorite videos? This one is 8 years old and I've still never seen anything quite as good. It's a DBZ video no less.

Knew what it was before I clicked :P

That was a great mash up of queen and super mario galaxy. It actually put me in the mood to play that game over again.

Also, is anyone else reminded of Shawn of the Dead when they hear that song? Makes me laugh everytime I hear it because of that bar scene.

That was ... really good.

On a side note, super mario galaxy looks pretty awesome. Who knew.

The Super Mario Galaxy is great mixed with the Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now". Kudos to the man who makes those type of great music videos.

Galaxy is a fantastic, FANTASTIC game. Almost worth a Wii all on its own.

Well...It is for the first 2 thirds of the game. The last few levels weren't nearly as interesting as the early ones, in fact, some of them just seem to be copy's with a different theme. Still probably the best game on the Wii.

Oh god OP. I thing you just posted the best AMV that will ever be.

There will never be another Freddie Mercury.

If only he were alive today, he would've curb stomped Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Rihanna all at once with his fabulousness.

Anyways, good video.

that video was EPIC!!!

I've yet to see an amv better than these two videos ever, but Mario Galaxy with queen? Genius.

I still consider these both fairly good, but that makes me want to beat SMG.

Must have been a slow news day.

That made my day.

Heh. I love this song.

Video isn't bad either.

I fucking love Mario.

Ill stand by that till the day I explode.

I bellowed a hardy sea man's laugh when I saw this.
I loved Galaxy.

I've been having a fairly crappy day and that AMV just picked me right up

Still love Mario as well but damn that video kicked ass!

This is like the fifth time I'm watching this.
Really want to play that game now.

Lol my thoughts exactly.
While this AMV was pretty well made, it is an odd thing to see on the News Room.
Still, its about games and its news to me.

I now want that game!

All right, fine, I won't be in a pissy mood anymore, god!

That's an awesome video, I just favourited it :P
Oh, and for favourite videos. Another extremely awesome Mario one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsd96jy3GWY&feature=channel_page

The above is still one of my favorites (The AMV starts at 37 seconds).

Also, on gametrailers, pretty much anything by user KarasuTengu is excellent. For example, the below.

That was a really good video, and it got me thinking. I know Labyrinth is doing that Art competition and there's a video category, which I entered in. However, what if the Escapist did a competition simply to find the best user made AMV's? The Escapist itself could hold a competition where Escapists post their own user made videos (preferably the original files so there's no cheating) or simply send them to the staff and a staff panel could pick the best ones to be voted for in a thread by the Escapist community! I make a habit myself of doing this anyway, I've got plenty of experience with Youtube and my own short music videos, and I'm pretty sure plenty of other Escapists do too (I know a few whose videos I've seen and they're really good), so this could just be something for the staff to consider. Just throwing the idea out there, hopefully it'll be picked up, who knows?

I made a thread about AMV's - post your favorites
