wow, i'm really, really not sure what to say. i say its fan made though, but i'm not all the way through yet, so i'm not sure edit: i'll edit this in a sec nope, scratch that, looks professional, can't watch the rest, chao
woah.... im 80% certain its a new game
i think it's definately professional. The main thing which makes me think that is how they were able to have all the streets clear and so many cars parked at once. The level of quality also leads me to think it could be valve
In my dreams: Valve have thrown their money and expertise in with the guys making Black Mesa:Source. In reality: Goodness knows, here's hoping Half Life 2: Opposite Force... Also, he's using my phone, ckeeky bastard, I've been wondering where it went.
Phone commercial. Definitely not fan made, they shut down streets and got buses in order to film it.
episode 3...*crosses fingers*
Well that is quite cool. But pretty pointless unless there was somthing im missing... how do i make it do something which isnt just a blue/ red box? EDIT: I mean the site
Looks mixed. Maybe Valve hired an amateur film maker, then gave them a few special effects?
Deffinately interesting, as stated above, the emptyness of the streets along with the expense of having so much mis-en-scene leads me to believe it's not fan-made.
My personal guess is the Half-life team is "stretching their legs" with some new IP.
I think its Valve. But mostly because I'm just so ready for them to release HL2 Ep 3 that I'll take anything as a sign to just to keep my hopes up.
Considering that the mere prospect of Valve releasing a new game within the next eight to ten years (they're slower than the Titanic, circa 1973) gave me a mild heart attack, I hope it's something good.
meh, don't care anyway, it seems that it is professional, but it doesn't matter anyway, since we won't hear about it until much, much later
That was pretty awesome, I gotta say. Does anyone know who the maker was? I have a hard time imagining it to be a regular ol' commercial when it used so much from the Half-Life games. (And a couple Lost suspense accents in to boot!)
Looks a lot like Escape From City 17, as seen in Escapist News here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.88006 Think about it, sure, this has Valve knowledge of it, but considering the costumes of the "Combine", I would have to say it is fan/indy made, much like the aforementioned video. The rest? Fan hype and hope - sure, eventually we are going to get something on Episode 3, but unless you count Valve's very dedicated fans, I doubt very much this a viral campaign.
I just noticed when you go to the site and all you see is the screen with the cube. When you mouse over it it turns red some of the letters at the bottom get ?s over them. Gonna figure out what they say..
I say its fan made but man its freakin' wicked! [for instance you can see when he lifts his bloody hand up the second time it looks like the players hand from bioshock]
We will be getting it, in about 1000 years time, not including delays.
It could be a movie... Would Valve actually attempt to go into the movie business?
Apparently there is a way higher quality version on youtube( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU_reTt7Hj4 ). Awesome video, a half-life movie would be great. Back on topic, that's all filmed in holland/the netherlands (you can see by the houses and the writing on the bus), so I doubt it's valve, though the bus and empty streets seem strange... Edit: fixed url
I'm going to try to figure out the letters. I'll post them here.
Wow, that was great. I am totally convinced that it's a teaser put out by valve, like for half life 2 episode 3 or something.
If it is the 7 Hour War, as some have speculated, that may explain why the Combine soldiers aren't wearing the Overwatch uniform. They haven't been fully established on the world yet, and as such are just wearing basic HazMat suits.
OTIONST WHAT IS IN THE BOX RSTIMCREASTEIRCTORPHYBAUTTIMSMISTHTIMSEEUSEDIMSCEECTMITLDITIONRERELUOOSTDAR ... I have no bloody clue what that could possibly be broken down into.
We have been working on this for a while. To save you guys some time, check out the lengthy post at the top of this page that a fellow poster at another forum has worked up. Nice summary. Check it out. http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27633&start=30
Oh, and remember the Game Developers Forum is next week. Coincidence?
It does look like something fanmade, but the fact that it's so mysterious, so many great effects, and seriously, how can you get an abandoned bus, clear streets, and millions of parked cars if it's just something like five people doing this. So i'm just guessing it's a bit of both.
Looks cool as hell whatever it is. Anyway the website that it links to http://www.whatsinthebox.nl/ is no where near helpful. But may I just say in the website's source code are the comments: <!-- Every medium, as its ancestors --> I think that clears things up. ???
That is very possibly the least helpful thing I have ever heard. Maddeningly unhelpful, wouldn't you say? Curse you, mysterious filmmakers! You've rekindled my sense of wonder! Just when I thought I'd stopped caring about who the G-Man was!
it gets a lot more helpful. Go to the website and move the cursor over the box and some letters in the thing at the bottom are replaced with question marks. I can't be bothered to check them all, but as I see the letters that are removed make a sentence. unfortunately the sentence is a random mix of letters, which obviously means it's a new type of shaving cream.
Well, obviously it's shaving cream. The question now is what kind of shaving cream are we dealing with?
Also, whenever you drag your mouse across the box it turns red, and at the bottom, by all the sort of production things, loads of question marks come up and hide letters. Most perplexing.
There's also a message hidden in the fast moving numbers below the box, I could only read FAST, READ, and SAGA before I had an epileptic fit. So it's obviously the long awaited Gillette Obscure "The most obtuse a man can get"
I took a screenshot of when you put your mouse over the cube and when you don't. Here they are: When I clicked on the link I saw "fact" or "fast" in the four little letter/number spot below the cube for about half a second.

Mysterious Video: Is Valve Going Viral?
A new video that's popped up online has Half-Life 2 fans wondering whether they're watching a remarkably well-done fan video or a viral teaser for a new, unannounced Valve game.
The video features graphics and sound lifted from Half-Life 2 and a setting that strongly echoes Valve's bleak Combine-infested world. There's also the fact that the title of the video, What's in the Box?, is a strong allusion to Valve's last Half-Life-based release, the Orange Box.
The site linked in the video, whatsinthebox.nl, leads to a single Flash-based page with movie-style credits, a pulsating box and the header, "Soon the world will find out."
Find out what? Portal 2 is coming? Half-Life 3? Or is this just a commercial for a really durable line of coveralls? Watch here and commence speculation!
