Here's an interesting tidbit. While some developers have been using the Ps3's cell architecture to allow for clockwork-precision in-game custom made machines, to show the fluid movement of about a billion blades of grass being moved by the wind, to create 3d anime shading, to track the movement of electricity along conductive surfaces, create realistic water and ice mechanics, allow a real-time divergence in a games plot to accomodate the players action, or to whine that it takes too much effort and doesn't let you do any of the above-mentioned things, Sony Computer Entertainment Studios Santa Monica apparently just said "Ah, fuck it. Lets make SAW". Among their new improvements is a Zipper system, that they say is too hot for the internet. No, not that kind of zipper.
Holy shit. Hoa-lee shit. The enemies skin splitting open, and internal organs spilling out upon death. No More Heroes was censored because it had blood spray, and this game is trying to teach us where to stab people to allow for maximum organ evacuation. Supposedly, this was in the games latest trailer, but had to be censored before the trailer could go out.
Whether this sounds like the most awesome thing ever or signs that they're going way too far is debateable, what I see as the major issue here is the fucking review board. So far, none of the enemies have looked humanoid in the rough sense of the word. That said, we will have to eventually kill the gods of Olympus (and everyone else, but they're the ones we already know), and they will look very human. And thats if they don't throw Heracles, Oedipus, Achilles or Oddyseus before them to attempt to delay their slaughter. I can see this as being the first major release that is denied sale in Australia for being too violent, since the developer will probably be unlikely to tone down the violence, due to it being both a neccesary plot device to show the brutal reality of what Kratos has become from the tauntings of those who controlled him as well as proving the undeniable lack of a good guy through his enemies usage of the same brutal tactics and attitudes all the way up the ladder, and is always fucking awesome.
Edit: Due to confusion, and noone actually reading the article, I'll have to clear things up - what he said was that the studio likely wouldn't release photos of the zipper system uncensored, as the visceral nature of the material would be likely too extreme for the gaming websites that would carry it.
There's also something about entire levels from the first game being able to fit into one of the Titans hands, which is actually a contradiction by them, since both games have featured major parts of gameplay involving Titans, and in both those cases the Titan was completely covered by the level (or was the level, in the case of God Of War II).
As cool as it is, they may be going too far here. They could get away with doing this to a minotaur, but once the subject becomes human there will be some problems. Achilles better watch out.
ps. Do gods have organs or are they made of pure magic and pixie dust?
Wow. That is just excessive. What kind of sick person would go that far? Seriously, 10,000 posts is just too much...and God of War 3 goes pretty far too.

Erana: Why do they need such violence? It was fine in GOW I and II... Actually, it was a little much for me.
No offence, but as the resident Wii fangirl, no-one really expects you to have much of a stomach for violence.

Considering the Greek Gods were actually birthed organiclly, one would assume they would have organs. That said, considering that a God becomes a nuclear explosion upon their death, its rather up for debate.

This feels.... Strange. I haven't gotten a Nentendo console since the N64, and yet I am labeled the Wii fangirl...?
If anything, I'd be a Halo fangirl. Long live the 360!

Adjustable gore level seems the sensible option here. If a country tries to ban it they just get a gimp version of the game with the maximum gore disabled/removed.
Holding back technology because of moral issues is what they did in the Dark ages people.
LewsTherin: The fact that someone has dubbed it "too violent for the Internet" makes it all the more worth buying.
and it probably makes him a lying dickhole, the internet is full of things more violent than organs spiling out of a paper cut srsly god of war its just senselesly violent
i always thought this series was like a brain damaged drunk historian chaneling frank miller
i dont know, but i just like having fun with my eletrical smiles machine without having buckets of realisticaly rendered organs dumped on my face
also if god of war was stilish violence like mad world or no more heroes it would add more to the experience
Greek gods don't have to look human. I seem to remember Zeus as a ram and eagle, among other things, at certain times. So they could have the user go up against a god that keeps changing what it is and thus make the god fights more interesting.

No, that would more trivialise the savagery rather than making it meaningful.

And a golden shower. I'm not making this up, Zeus impregnated a girl while disguised as a golden shower.
That would work well as one boss fight, but it would sort of get old if all of them did that. And even then, you'd more than likely have to kill them in their human form.
Oh, what's this? Too violent for the Internet? Is there such a thing? Lots of gore? Well, just fix the analog sticks for that PS3 controller and I'm in!

I meant simply banning it on those grounds will do nothing but make more people buy it. Nothing we don't already know.

The analog sticks for the Ps3 are the best possible controller design for this game.

Frank Miller makes violence look stylish like no one else can. He is awesome.
You know what, I'm fifteen, and I guarantee that since this thread was made I will HAVE to buy GOWIII simply because if it's too bloody for the internet and the internet is held together basically by the people who are strangely pleased to see fellow human being's arms fly off in different directions via VATS, then it just made me draw the good ship expectations for a round of inevitable forum smashing when I realize, and this is probably what's going to happen: that they manage to make the game worse due to this bout of interest on my part

the GoW series is one that i have trouble simpathizing with, its definetly not art i didnt play through the whole game but i thought it was boring, all it had was sex and violence witch im not a big fan of, i guess that makes me gay
to me it just seems that Kratos is a demi god with the mind of a 12 year old interested in earning his veterinary degree the old fashion way, by gutting a mythical creature licking its lungs wich i wouldnt mind if he just let his artistic side out by using a skull to put pretty flowers on
i guess what im trying to say here and obviously failed is that God of War is not an interesting game and if you think that it is you are wrong
Dommyboy: Too violent for the internet, eh? Well, that would be possible but this game will then have to have the most violent and horrible things possible.
This game looks great. Hopefully it won't get banned in Australia.
I'm very sorry, but...considering their track record, this is going to be banned.
The first God of War was great because it set out to mock the typically infantile attitudes that game designers & gamers have towards redemption. Kratos is of the belief that he'll atone for his sins simply by following orders & killing for the sake of killing, and in 99% of video games this would hold true. But in GOW he doesn't get his family back (because why would he??) so he ends up throwing himself of a cliff like a true nihilist. A lot of people think the blood & guts mayhem is indicative of a typical macho goregasm but that couldn't be further from the truth. There's even a scene where the game gives the impression that Kratos will be reunited with his family, only to reveal the harsh reality and then force him to protect an imagined projection of his cowering wife & child in order to save himself. Genius.

Yes, becasue god forbid someone not share your opinion of what interesting is. I haven't even played a God Of War game, and this statement bothers me. Graaahgrgrlbhr.
EDIT:
zen5887: I think it goes a bit too far when people are bragging about being able to rip the skin off the bad guys.
Do we really need to do that?
Well, games are all about being able to do stuff you don't do in real life. So, no.
It would have to be pretty violent to surprise me. To me, the most violent game ever is still Soldier of Fortune 2, which was released six years ago. The GORE system they used is still amazing. Shooting a person in the head with a 7.62x39 round, then walking up and seeing that it went through the upper right jawbone and took out a chunk of flesh and noticing the jaw is hanging on by a thread of sinew is just fantastic. Or shooting someone in the stomach with a shotgun and as their intestines spill out they scream and try to push them back in. It may not be the most graphically realistic violence I've seen, but it's the most graphic.
Seriously, there is no such thing as "too violent for the internet." There is real life violence on the internet. Real violence always trumps fake violence.
To be fair though, it seems like they are going the Manhunt route and just trying to offend as many people as possible so as to sell the game to as many 13 year olds as possible (since they are the group that could possibly be interested in this sort of thing.

If you're going to comment on a game, play through the damn thing first. Honestly, it'd take you all of 8-10 hours to beat the game.

How this will affect actual length of the game remains to be seen.
Any comments?
