Oh, what's this? Too violent for the Internet? Is there such a thing? Lots of gore? Well, just fix the analog sticks for that PS3 controller and I'm in!
The analog sticks for the Ps3 are the best possible controller design for this game.
Last time I used them they really didn't feel good for any kind of game.
And I'm not just talking placement, but also how the resistance in the sticks feel.
Erana: Why do they need such violence? It was fine in GOW I and II... Actually, it was a little much for me.
The game is probably not for you then.
There comes a point where gameplay is fine and in order to make the next game in the series something different a change has to be made. Graphic improvements no longer work ~ players no longer accept this.
This is a publicity stunt. There isn't anything "too much for the internet". That's absurd.

Oh, if someone gave me a PS3 and a copy of the game, I'd sure as hell play.
I can't help but think "I'll believe it when I see it." A developer bragging about all the cool F/X thier game will have? Ya been there and done that too many times thanks.
The controls wouldn't work - simple as that. I respect your position, but you have to view it from theirs.
Vinculi: I'm just concerned that the production costs will have all been spent on flashy looking gore instead of making a good game. Because I hate it when we, the consumers, let companies get away with crap like that.
Also, what kind of idiot decides he has the right to decide what's too violent for us? Just where did this person get his authority to make that choice?
Combat is sweet as all hell and still innovating, Script is solid and long, level design is huge and challenging, there's no real area they're putting all their chips. This series has always excelled across the board, and this game is no different. All aspects of the game will be given this level of polish.
And I think the fact that they're the developers of the game gives them the authority on what they do or do not release. As it stands, considering the reaction of some of the posters, it might be better off Gaming websites are not platsered with these shots. Hell, even I'd need to get into the right frame of mind to look at them.

You know what this game is, don't you? How you actively need flick controls for dodging and movement?
LewsTherin: The fact that someone has dubbed it "too violent for the Internet" makes it all the more worth buying.
Sounds gay to me, nothing is too much for the internet, if they said, "The high def detail is difficult to show on standard bandwith", then I'd think, "hell thats a lot of detail"... kudos.
but "too violent for the internets", meh. Its like saying "this butter is too buttery for this bread".
Jandau: There is such a thing as going too far. There's a difference between a violent game and something bordering on snuff films. Yes, I do appreciate a bit of blood and some light dismemberment. No, I do not think it's neccessary to spill Heracles' guts on the floor and have each organ fully rendered in 3D...
Oh ho ho my good sir, then you must rally hate MadWorld ;O
Ugh, this is nothing more than marketing spiel. Particularly dodgy marketing spiel, too. Now, I didn't even like God of War that much, but I can concede the defining feature wasn't the gore content. The internet has no limits, as certain websites that I won't mention have showed.
Too violent for the internet? There are real decapitations on the internet, and don't forget the hell that is rotten.com. Pléase, GoW3 doesn't even come close, it's all pixels.

Why would I hate Mad World? While I confess I haven't played the game, the movies I've seen are nothing too shocking. A spray of red pixels and basic dismemberment, all in sylized cartoon visuals. It's nothing I haven't seen before and is not tasteless.
The features described for GoW3 sound like they might cross the line of good taste though...

Well remember that the violence in GoW3 isn't just a cool thing to lure people (ok ok, partially :P), it's also a vital point in the game; the gods can be slaughtered, they can bleed and spill their guts just like ordinary men. The new gory graphics make that even more clear. Different from MadWorld ofcourse.
I'm going to wait for this in Manhunt three or maybe unnecessarily realistic vehicle damage in GTAV. Thanks you got me looking forward to something other than the next Postal. Finally I always thought it odd that in prior games all they really did was turn into steaks,
Edit: It fits the story and character Kratos is really just a big psychotic sadist.

Ehem. In MadWorld, you can stuff an enemy in a trash can, impale them with a Caution Sign, repeatedly stab them in a wall spike then thrust them down and impale them from their ass up, in that order.
And God of War isn't as tasteless....how? Though we don't know exactly how bloody and violent GoWIII is right now, it's down right hypocritical to say that God of War is taking it too far yet shrug off MadWorld.
Indigo_Dingo: You know what this game is, don't you? How you actively need flick controls for dodging and movement?
Haven't played any GoW beyond the hydra boss in the first game. Don't see how a well-designed controller that actually has a button/stick layout that puts 3D games in focus could affect gameplay negatively.
The main reason that I never bought a lot of games outside of the RPG genre for my PS2 was because of the controller.
Indigo_Dingo: I have mighty viking hands, I can crush a mans hand within my grip and make him beg for mercy. You're either using it wrong or you're Mickey Mouse.
Or it's a half-assed design that Sony have just been too stubborn to change.
Microsoft got it right, and I can say that without even owning an Xbox.
Dommyboy: Too violent for the internet, eh? Well, that would be possible but this game will then have to have the most violent and horrible things possible.
This game looks great. Hopefully it won't get banned in Australia.
Don't worry, it will. At least, until you kill Atkinson.

That point can be illustrated just as well without resorting ot obscene levels of gory violence.

The actions you can perform in Mad World are not in any way realistic, nor do they aspire to recreate how it would look if you peeled the skin off another person. I can shrug it off because of the non-realism of it. It's kinda like a Tom & Jerry cartoon. If they recreated the events in those cartoons, but with realistic body damage and trauma, it would be a VERY disturbing show. So no, I don't think I'm being "hypocritical".
I'm not a tight-arsed blood-is-evil games-ruin-children type, but I do belive that there is such a thing as taking it too far. And as far as I'm concerned, the stuff that's supposedly going to be in GoW3 could cross that line. Granted, it could just be hype building, but that remains to be seen.
That point can be illustrated just as well without resorting ot obscene levels of gory violence.
It's just doing it better, that's all ;-) It's also to further point out Kratos' anti-hero-ness. Besides, you're ripping apart demons, gods and other mythical creatures anyway. Ok if this would be in a GTA game, gotcha, but an old Greek god wich ripped off head you use as a torch or gutting a centaur, well I think we can relax a little about that. I still doubt it will be thát 'obscene' though, you just see a little more then you usually do. Face it, it's still nowhere near reality.
JediMB: Or it's a half-assed design that Sony have just been too stubborn to change.

The controller has been that way since...1995 with the original Playstaton? I don't know about you, but you'd think they'd change it after 15 or so years if anyone really cared.
Besides, they alreay tried to switch it up, remember the Boomerang Controller? Yeah, Sony's not changing their controller any time soon me thinks.

Well, we'll see. A lot of Greek mythology is quite anthropomorphic, and slicing a centaur's stomach open wouldn't look much different than gutting an average human. As for how close it is to reality, that remains to be seen, but I can't help but feel a bit worried that they might take it too far with the whole "violence for violence's sake" this time around. And yeah, realistic skinning, gutting and such in a GTA-type game would be a bad thing...

Well that's the point, in GoW it's not just violence for violence's sake. It does have a meaning and a purpose, like with all the disturbing monsters in the Silent Hill series.
Calobi: Greek gods don't have to look human. I seem to remember Zeus as a ram and eagle, among other things, at certain times. So they could have the user go up against a god that keeps changing what it is and thus make the god fights more interesting.
You have earned an idea of the year nomination.
God of War III sounds sweet... It feels good to live in the less censored US.
Haha, I went and watched a couple of the vids on the official site and from what I saw, it doesn't look much more violent than it was before.
They would have to go too far too overstep what they did in God of War II, I mean... you bashed Theseus to death with a door, for God's sake...
Anyway, this game looks so cool, it makes me wish I had a PS3 so I could play it. It's too bad it would be a cold day in hell before they would port it to the 360....

Remember, we're talking about the people who always know better when it comes to what their fans want (people don't want force feedback, that's last-gen), and who regard the flaw in the PSP's design (the one where pressing the Square button would disturb the screen) as intentional because it was a work of art.
But, really, the reason why they're not changing it is out of fear that it will affect sales negatively. They don't want to take a chance at improving the controller because their fanbase have gotten used to it.

Well.....yeah? I'm used to it, my friend is used to it, most everyone I know likes it or are at least used to it. You're mixing up your personal preference with overall preferance, Sony can't cater to just your need. Besides, if you hate it that much, go get a 3rd party controller.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that everyone else doesn't either. The PS3 controller is an icon much like the NES and in some points the 360 controller is. How do you propose they change it? If you don't like it, tough luck, plenty of other people do. If you need proof, go to any one of the numerous threads about controller preferance, usually it's about 50/50 between most of the controller optons (not incluing KB+M of course).
Indigo_Dingo: Here's an interesting tidbit. While some developers have been using the Ps3's cell architecture to allow for clockwork-precision in-game custom made machines, to show the fluid movement of about a billion blades of grass being moved by the wind, to create 3d anime shading, to track the movement of electricity along conductive surfaces, create realistic water and ice mechanics, allow a real-time divergence in a games plot to accomodate the players action, or to whine that it takes too much effort and doesn't let you do any of the above-mentioned things, Sony Computer Entertainment Studios Santa Monica apparently just said "Ah, fuck it. Lets make SAW". Among their new improvements is a Zipper system, that they say is too hot for the internet. No, not that kind of zipper
Holy shit. Hoa-lee shit. The enemies skin splitting open, and internal organs spilling out upon death. No More Heroes was censored because it had blood spray, and this game is trying to teach us where to stab people to allow for maximum organ evacuation. Supposedly, this was in the games latest trailer, but had to be censored before the trailer could go out.
Love how I got the references to those games :)
Didn't we know a while ago that the trailer was censored?
Also, No More Heroes was a Wii game and i'm sure the fact that the age of it's primary fanbase being rather young affected it's rating and censorship (although it probably shouldn't have)
