Okay I have a question for all you escapist users.

Who on these forums have ever wanted to make their own machinima but couldn't because of equipment and other things?

I personally have wanted to make one before I have ideas but I can't use them.

so be honest have you or have you not wanted to make your own machinima?

Does it count if you already made one?

It has never really occured to me. So I guess "never thought about it" suits.

I'd love to. But I don't have the materials or certain skills.

yeah i have thought about making one using lost planet, but all i have is an idea for either a trailer or the first episode if i had some more stuff, but due to no equipment or editing skills and my friends (on xbox) having no equipment or editing skills... yeah you already know where this is going.

it's a weird feeling when the guy who inspires you to make a thread posts in it. it really is

I've made machinima for school projects. I've used Halo 2, Halo 3, and Assassin's Creed.

The one in Halo 2 I made for Spanish I 3 years ago, it's just recorded on a VHS because I didn't have a capture card at the time. My teacher loved it, highest graded project that year.

Next year I made one in Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed. A much better one, made with a capture card but I was sick at the time of making it so I had my brother do most of the talking. Tied with several others for highest grade. I may upload it to YouTube sometime.

only put it on youtube if it's funny no one wants to see an educational youtube film.

I think I'll make an educational youtube film now on why you should never make an educational youtube film.

oh yeah and good for you

I thought about it at one point. But then I realized that I have no good ideas whatsoever, and I would only end up copying one of the other successful machinimas out there.

My brother and his friends are making one. I haven't seen the script, so I can't say if it's crap or not. I would be bothered that I'm not in it, but these are the kind of kids that think Forge is the best part of Halo 3. (Though my brother does make some decent Hammer maps in HL2) I'd probably just want to wreck the set and kill everyone. I can't just...not...kill something.

that's interesting because I have the equipment and editing skills, but no ideas

My website (that is online but for now has very few users) is dedicated to bringing the people with the ideas to the people with the equipment.

that's why I first made Machinima, school. Two seperate English projects in 11th grade and I wrote a research paper on it 12th grade

I'd love to make one 'my way' with 'my kind of characters' but unfortunatley
A. I'm really overambitious
B. I'm no proffessional
C. It's a competative market.

you people who can make it but have no ideas are lucky for some reason in school I find myself writing down ideas I would use and scripts

example: I wrote a spoof commercial I could use in a halo 3 machinima about some guy trying to sell a robot godzilla and over reacting about it's awesomness and how it will change your life forever

First off... Everyone knows what AMV Hell is... right?

I you don't: go find out, it's awesome!

For some time I've thought about making a Video-game AMV hell (so that would be VGMV Hell). But I lack the skills in certain areas and I can't get any of my friends in on it... :C

There's an HMV Hell (H means Halo). It was awesome until YouTube banned the sound.

I have no idea what you are talking about now :D

ALL HAIL GUITARMASTERX!7!

I have thought about it, but i don't want to buy equipment or anything, i would pay attention long enough, unless i found something i really like.

Me any my friend were going to make one but then the idea was lost. Our new idea is to get some people together to play a tabletop rpg I'm hoping this will work.

so basically you had an idea you didn't follow through and decide to mention
a brand new completely unrelated idea.

Baby steps dude seriously theres a big difference between a machinima and then getting people to play a tabletop rpg...or is there?

Exactly... because thats how I roll.

I started making one, but since it never got finished I put super yes. Then again, it was a little more like a parody re-dub than a machinima. Oh well.

Yea, i made a 'Robot Chicken' Styled one for my IPT prelim. project and got highest marks.

for those of you that HAVE made one or have the supplies how much do they normally cost in total for all the equipment?

I have wanted to, but whenever I get an idea then I don't feel like making it anymore.

Right now I'm making a documentary on griefing in Garry's Mod. That's a pretty cheap, easy and accessible way to make a machinima, but no game I've seen so far comes close to Halo 3's Theater function for ease of use.

I wanted too once, but after fiddling around with gary's mod I realized that not only did I suck horribly at it, but that I also sucked at coming up with scripts

That's fantastic. Garry's Mod is good for a quick and dirty solution, but if you want lipsynching / character motions to work effectively just go with FacePoser and Hammer - especially if you want to use game models that aren't included with the Valve games. It's a much steeper learning curve wrought with crashes and frustration, but it's worth it if you have the time.

For those who say "I don't have the right equipment" - if you can play a game on your PC (or even a console, seriously), you can make machinima. The trick is knowing what you want to record before you record it. Machinima, like any form of animation takes time and planning to pull it off, so don't sprint to the finish unless there's money on the line.

(I'm the animator from the March Mayhem videos, btw. I'm happy to take PMs regarding the machinimation process.)

Thanks for the tip! I've been banging up against the limitations of Gmod, so I will definitely check them out.

$100 for an external (USB) capture device and a basic editing program, at least when I first got my capture card
edit: quote didn't work, this is an answer to how much a cap. card costs

yes but no skills, manpower, or ideas how to do it.

That sounds pretty awesome, but it would be more fun if there were other games than just Halo.

I would love to make one I just need capture card and editing software and I need people who voice act and I need people to a puppeteers and I also need to work on a script.

I have a good ideas for a halo and gears of war machinma. I also need the time as well
