World War 1 MOD for Empire Total war is being made!

Well will you just look at that: http://www.moddb.com/mods/ww1tw

I did not like Empire Total war at all. But if this MOD goes well then i might give the game another try, using this MOD of course. Though i wander how your suppose to use the MOD now that the game is using STEAM.

What do you think? Are you going to grab this once it comes out?

I mean the MOD is promising trench warfare, tanks and airplanes! AND did i mention that they will create new world war 1 era ship models? This looks great, it really does!

There is also going to be mustard gas and such!

EDIT: I must say that considering how awesome this is i am surprised that nobody has commented yet 0_o

The same way you used mods when you did not have steam...make backup and paste the mod files over the main files...

Edit: World War 1 sucks anyway. I want an Empire:Total Realism mod.

Looks good, but until i can get my hands on it ill pass up judgment. A lot of things can look nice with a few pretty pics.

That looks crazy fun! Did anyone see the ad for Norton on that site by the way? Don't get pwned by your anti-virus, Haha.

Well these "few picks" look extremely good if you ask me. Considering that this is just a MOD and not something created by pro game developers.

Stainless Steel proved that the modding comunity of Total War is better at it than CA...

Before you say that i think you have to take it into account that these people can only create these MODS so easily because CA made sure that the games would be easy to MOD for. So one has to give CA some credit for that as well.

Actually ME2/Rome werent that easy to mod. Empire is by far the easiest TW game to mod, or so tell the modders.

But the thing is time after time the modding community made a better job than CA at fixing/making the game better.

Well if CA had not made the games and the game engines then the MODERS would never have had any games to MOD in the first place.

Touché!

first off, why is everyone capitalizing 'mod' and 'moder(s)'? (I do know what they are).
second off, i've basically stayed away from the Total War series, but does anyone know If there is a battles mode where you would be able to re-visit major battles of the time, because I think it would be awesome to re-create vimy ridge, the Somme, etc.etc.

All total war games have several historical battles that you can fight.

Interesting, interesting. I almost never use mods (Yes I play Empire vanilla) but if this turns out good I might just have to get it.

I also hope this turns out good. Though i must say that i have no idea of how they intend to implement tanks into the game without making them completely overpowered.

The same way they were stopped from being overpowered in real life: Make them slow, unreliable, and generally shitty to the point of being useless. Atleast, if they have any common sense they'll do that.

WW1 trenches require terrain deformation, which empire doesn't support.

In addition, the fact that there's a Kirov Airship that looks suspiciously like the one EA made for RA3 in there greatly saps their credibility as well.

Also, the "theme tune' is composed in mario paint.

Hype and a hollow game, just like empire itself, move on, nothing to see here.

Empire has already a trench system and the modders said they could work with the trench system that CA did.

Also whats wrong with Mario Paint?

Its a mod therefor it cannot be hyped or be a hollow game, since the the modders themselfs aren't getting paid and on top of that, they wasting hours of their lifes in doing something that most people that bought Empire will never play.

Also the Kirov was actually a Soviet Union battecruiser. Westwood decided to adapt it and make it a Zeppelin in Red Alert 2 for some reason.

Empire has a system that allows units to dump a wall in front of them at deployment. That isn't how real trench systems work.

The problem with mario paint is that it can't make any sound other then the built in blips and beeps, none of which are even remotely related to WWI.

Free games/mods can still cause hype, see sony's new attempt at an mmo.

I don't see what a 3d render that suspiciously like one EA made and is based on either a 1936 ship or a 1977 ship has to do with WWI.

How would a World War One mod work with the style of Empire's battles?
Machineguns negate cavalry charges, and every other type of charge for that matter (aside from tanks, which - if included - would be redundant, as they'll either completely destroy the trench-warfare system or be instantly picked off by artillery).
Artillery will just rape the Hell out of everyone.
I'm not saying that a World War One mod is a bad idea; rather, that it just doesn't work with the way Total War battles are designed and programmed.

Asehujiko:
*snip*

Its not EA its WESTWOOD!!

You thinking of WW2. Cavalry was still used in WW1 and there wasnt that many tanks around, till the late stages of the war that worked perfectly. And believe it or not there was plenty of battles outside of trenches during WW1.

And last time I saw theres already artillery in Empire, and it doesnt rape the hell out of everyone.

Its not EA its WESTWOOD!!

Read what you are yelling about. Its the RA3 kirov, which is made by EA. The original Westwood version was a 2D sprite.

The design is by Westwood. Not EA.

Concept is the same of the RA2 version
