...This is pretty much why I stopped playing WoW. I can't imagine anything less stimulating than talking about "gearz." No offense. Also, Welcome to The Escapist, but most people here dislike WoW, for whatever reason.
I like WoW, but I almost never talk about it in real life, its just not that interesting to talk about I find...
I wouldn`t say it`s that many(who dislike WOW) ,i for one don`t like WOW but then again i just don`t see the fun in grinding ,any MMO that can remove the serious grind i might try. EDIT:To the OP wecome to the escapist, hope you enjoy your time here
Remember, there's always someone in your guild with better gear and you DPS will always be too low for the raid group. I don't dislike WoW personally, I just don't have time to play it anymore. Well, that and the arrogant raid leaders...
Oh god, talking about WoW outside of WoW is so boring. Even when I was playing it one of my friends would never shut up about it. It really isn't a very exciting conversation topic.
With a title like that, I was expecting this to be a flaming thread.
UHHHHHHH. I don't know what to say. Welcome I guess, your muffins will be there soon.
altho ive gamed forever and love rpgs and always played blizzard games. I havnt had the displeasure of WOW. I saw it as an OH&S hazard that simply had to be avoided.
Funny, my friend plays Shaiya, and Maplestory. Both are mainly grind based games, and he laughs at the thought of only grinding for 5 hours. Wow on the other hand, I have NEVER grinded on. Also, I respect your opinions on not wanting to talk about 'gearz' and was just trying to create a discussion. And being new to the forum, I didn't realize the dislike that Wow has in these forums. I'm just used to browsing WOW forums where everyone is up for a discussion about their latest achievement or piece of gear. Also, I was just trying to see if anyone played WOW. If you ever play Wow, you can message me and I can show you a great guide for leveling. Have fun posting...or trolling...XD

Played since Beta on the original back on '04, as of February this year, I am 100% done with WoW. The direction and method of play is getting worse and less fun with every patch, forcing players to reroll just to enjoy the game, and the reward scheme is truly horrible, and has escalated even worse. Days upon days wasted and for what effort? Sure, no other game shows, but hell, at least I get to do other things that are fun, and not a second job that I pay for and get my bum kicked left and right (and not just pvp, I do a fair amount of PvE...and play a healing Priest!).
Mate, don't try it. The escapist is fair, democratic and unbiased in it's asshat habit of bashing anything it thinks deserves it. Because it's a big mob, they never see any dissent and it grows to godly levels. It starts polite, but soon it will disolve into WoW-bashing. I would love to have to eat my words about this, I would adore to be proven wrong and made to look like an idiot, but I doubt it will happen. WoW, like Halo, is one of those things you're not allowed to like if you want your opinion to be valid. 'You play WoW, you have no life and can be ignored.' I salute your efforts, but feel obliged to warn you. 80 Rogue here, Almost in full Terrorblade. *Vanish*
I don't discuss gear, except to wish for more fist weapons, and to comment that I kept my Hunter in cloth armor for 35 levels because it looked better. So...my favorite gear is the stuff I make myself. It appeals to my inherent bias towards self-sufficiency to make my own ammunition, and it adds a personal touch when I blast the ever-loving snot out of some dark dwarves with the Moonsight Rifle I crafted myself, with the moonstone I risked my low-level ass for looking in the Wetlands. That's really the only reason I stick with Engineering, I think. I like putting the "RP" in MMORPG, solo style.
I do agree, Mischiviktus, that WoW was much better in the old days, with MC raiding and such. And thanks for the advice Ultrajoe. I was hoping this thread would be directed solely to people who play WoW, so we could have discussion.
You know, I did that same thing, but with leather armor on my Tauren warrior. Having a Tauren wear metal just feels... wrong. It's like making a snake swim.
NeutralDrow, I think that's cool that you make your own gear. All I have is skinning, and use it to farm money. But that's what the game is for. To 'RP' your own way and to have fun =D.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_snake But I do agree, certain races look MUCH better with certain gear.
Aren't RP servers full of: a) nerds that pretend to be characters in an MMORPG (where they die and magically teleport back to town)
There are also people trying to have fun with the video game. It's not all inhabited with people that have this belief that they are someone in the game. And B is soooo true...
In other words, absolutely terrifying? Oops, forgot a screenshot. This one's pretty old, but it's back from before I let practicality outweigh fashion sense. I still have that outfit (made the goggles myself).
Not that I've seen. At least, Steamwheedle Cartel isn't. I've yet to run into anyone who actually RP'd (and I've run into a surprisingly low number of assholes). EDIT: Dammit, that's the second time I've forgotten to hit "Edit." Hope there's no three strikes thing on double-posting.
I play WoW, but i absolutely hate talking about it. Unless i am actually physically sitting in front of the computer logged on, i will try to dodge any conversations about it.
Cool shot, your guy looks pretty awesome =D
Then don't post -.-. Jk, I respect your opinion. I know tons of people that are like that.
I have played it by no longer do, pretty much since the end of BC. And I've deleted the game back then, including most of the screenshots, so I can't post anything. Meh. It's kind of pointless talking about WoW in this way. Gear is always going to be judged mathematically in terms of how powerful it is... and as for looks, meh. My last character, which I played soon after WOTLK release, was a rare and totally elusive dwarf female death knight on a RP-PvP server...And I haven't really touched my old main since the end of BC... Being a warlock was no longer fun. I've barely got to 80 and got bored again, mainly due to my friends dropping out and burn out. Which happens to me every few months - I've been playing since vanilla even though I've only payed for maybe a year or so worth of WoW. Maybe I'll come back some day, if I'll be really bored and some of my friends do the same =p
Heh, bashing WoW and most MMOs in general is a well-spread habit all over the internets. Including the Escapist, even though if I had to take a guess, the WoW playing demographic here is not that much of a minority. It's like bashing Halo. Everyone does it =/ With a title like this, though, I kind of expected an escaped troll trying to start a flame thread =p
WoW makes me sad on so many levels. I feel like I'm going to be threadshitting just getting this off of my chest, but I feel the need to say it, and damnit, this is the internet where everyone has to read your shitty thoughts! WoW, and other MMOs, while not solely responsible for the problems I've been having with gaming, are a huge contributor. The fact that you have to pay per month is just bad. There are lots of games out there that don't bind you financially to have sitting on your shelf while you go experience other games. Usually when I say that to WoW addicts, they say "well, I'm saving money on all the games I'm not buying!" Well you know what? If you aren't buying all the other games that are good out there, then no one is making money off of the effort that other devs are putting into their games. Devs are just going to notice the success of WoW and try to copy it and fail. As things are going now, I'm starting to hear comments like "only MMOs can survive on PCs" and other BS like that because of WoW. It makes me sad because I know WoW is a good game, but it's costing everyone a lot more than just the monthly fee. Pretty soon, we won't have any games to play on the PC because WoW killed them all. Like I said, WoW isn't the sole reason games are dying (I remember a recent article about graphics whores doing damage as well), but every game a WoW player doesn't buy is another knife in the back of the games industry. With the economy, things aren't going to get better with people playing WoW. WoW is a social tool, but it shouldn't take the place of real social interaction, or real games.[/rant] Apologies to the WoW players out there. I'm not trying to dis or flame you, but the semi-antiWoW talk got me thinking about games (Sacred 2, namely) I've played recently that no one has bought because they are all playing WoW.
Signa, you do make a very good point. The "I'm saving money by not buying other games" philosophy has gotten to so many people. And it is true that it is partially 'overtaking' PC gaming. I am a big fan of WoW, but I do agree that it is always good to play other games. I really love playing Tf2, DoW2 and other games like that.I always try to convince people WoW is not the ONLY game in the universe. The sad fact is, Blizzard is not thinking, "Man, we should make WoW worse so that people will buy other games." What are they going to do, sabotage their biggest money making game? And I do not believe that people who play WoW should be 'attacked', and insulted. This thread was directed to WoW players (hence the name), and therefore, if you don't want to read my s*itty thoughts, then don't read them!
I don't know... I don't think that all of the WoW players belong to the same demographic as the people who like games like Sacred 2. I consider myself a fan of MMOs and some RPGs, and I have played Sacred 1 among other similar game and that just doesn't cut it for me. I hate games that look like Sacred, or Diablo. Just the way gameplay goes... Well, I suppose it's just my opinion. But again, I really can't agree with you on the bolded quote. It's almost like blaming people for not buying a platformer because they're all too busy playing an online FPS game. Different genres, different demographics.
I think there are very few WoW players that really think that "WoW is the best game ever made". Or if they are, it's quite possible because they haven't had time to try other games and genres. And I kind of like the whole "Saving money" philosophy... even though for entirely wrong reasons. I rarely buy more then 3-4 games yearly, whether I play some MMO at the time or not. I'm very picky, I guess. Things like TF2, and to the lesser extent Mass Effect and Dawn of War are pretty much the only things that really interest me.
Yeah, I generally do not buy many games. Just Valve games and Dawn of War. But your right, even though one could say 'too' many people play Wow (which I don't agree with), it's all opinion and everyone should play the games they want, even if it effects the Video game economy or whatever the slightest bit.
Similar to Gormourn's experience, I did most of my WoW playing/leveling pre-burning crusade. After getting my own account, the next character I spent the most time on was my 70 male orc enhancement shaman. I tried the WoW: LK trial and death knights were interesting yet, I didn't really feel motivated I will probably come back to WoW, every other MMORPG I've occasionally tried was either mediocre or just plain terrible. As for my gear, here's the only simple way I have to show you.
Maybe it's just the people I work with then. My last few jobs have had people who talk about it non-stop, worship it, and do in fact find it the best game ever. And no, I don't believe that Blizzard should sabotage their game, and no, I don't think your thoughts are shitty. Mine are in this case because of where they are being presented. I could have started another "I hate WoW" thread when I felt the need to speak my mind, but I think we have all heard that enough. I really can't blame Blizzard, because they were just doing what they do best. I guess it was only a matter of time before some one made the "perfect" game and it ruined everyone else. It can happen, and probably as close as it ever will in the video game industry, DID happen with WoW. Anyway, ignore me. Leave this thread to posting sweet looking armor. I'll just sit quietly in the corner, pretending to hate WoW while being secretly jealous of those that can play it.
Hehe, nice to see others like me. Yeah, I'll go back to WoW once more if I'll be bored. But I don't think I'd be able to level up around old worlds alone one more time - it was bad enough already... I actually like some of the other MMOs out there, but WoW still has some nostalgic connection with me, perhaps. I can't say much about instances... I have had little luck with instancing after vanilla - and I never got to level 60 instances back then, even though I did all the instances before mid 50's, over and over again. I've only touched few instances in Burning Crusade and WoTLK, and they didn't seem too bad. I like some of the new short instances which are dynamic and fun, with great atmosphere - like the nerubian ones in... uh... that mid 70s place in Dragonblight. Long, epic instances like BRD were fun, especially in a group of friends, but spending more one or two hours on an instance is a bit too much in most cases. The vehicles in WOTLK were great, though. And siege weapons.

If you play WoW, post pictures and lvl/class of your chars and discuss your gear!
