I'm throwing myself behind this project. Helium lags like hell and WMP does weird things.
You've read my mind Mr. danny ocean.
An in-game player would be really nice indeed.
I really wouldn't be surprised if this were on the agenda for steam updates anyway. It seems like the logical next thing to do after a web browser (the day they updated the overlay to include the browser was a great day).
sounds cool, I'm behind this
Why would you have a song you don't like on your playlist?
I listen to the in-game music usually (especially on games like L4D where it's a necessity!) and if I don't, I use Winamp. You can make your own shortcuts/hotkeys to each function. I use CTRL + ALT + UP to turn the volume up and DOWN to turn the volume down. No problem for me. And yeah, as Cajt said, why have a song in your playlist if you don't like it?
In I am. | |
Imma join now, that would be an awesome thing to have :D
One of the few advantages to still using a g15 keyboard o/
I can use iTunes without exiting the game thanks to buttons on my keyboard :p.
Come on, we need more people.
don't be a smartarse. You know what he means.
Global hotkeys + winamp/xion/billy/any other media player that supports them solves the problem instantly. Also, wouldn't an ingame media player also require you to open up the steam overlay, mess about with your settings, then close it again, which also could cause deaths?
Because maybe you aren't in the mood for it anymore.
I concur with the above.
You could do that in 20 seconds or less, besides some games crash when you alt-tab. Also, Winamp's global hotkeys don't work for some reason and ther is no way that I'm getting another one because I can't be arsed to mess with the playlist.
Spotify lets you use the skip/play etc buttons on your keyboard when you're in a game although sometimes it makes you laggy. Is there a way to get the media keys to work with other players? A steam overlay player would be nice though, I'm joining the group.
Woo! More petitions! Sign me up baby! *even though I hardly use STEAM at all...*
Wait a second...Didn't VALVe talk about this months ago? I'm sure they mentioned a player in the future applications in STEAM. Along side with direct downloads to the newest DirectX(Which already has!), your video card drivers and other stuff. But FIRST! They should remake steam from ground. They still using the same client from 2003...they just pilling stuff and stuff on a server client that wasn't designed for the stuff its doing. But..yeah go STEAM Player!(even tho you can get faster results in flooding Gabes Email box with this stuff.)
A steam media player would be awesome.
We might just have to do that, then, but let's wait until we can really flood it. Wouldn't happen to have a slave computer network at your disposal, would you? :P
I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe they can get scroll buttons to work first, or code a web browser that doesn't take 120 seconds to load a page of mostly text.
If i would petition valve for anything it would be to stop making l4d2 and make hl2 ep3.
Winamp. With Winamp you can set up hotkeys that allow you to change song/turn up/down volume/whatever you want to do whenever you want to do it. For example I've set up Ctrl+ALt+V to skip song forward, and Ctrl+Alt+X to skip song backward. Also Ctrl+Alt+Spacebar to pause song. I think that a Clock in the overlay would be a nice idea. Also a bacon and egg sandwich dispenser.
I have a huge collection of songs and I like all of them, but I don't always feel like listening to certain ones. Anyway, this isn't a huge concern for me. My laptop has row of touch pads above the keyboard that control the basic functions of a media player and adjusts the volume.
I've been griping about this since I first started playing TF2 - I actually play other games sometimes just so I can have decent music. Either that or I have to queue up for a server with a decent radio station. Great idea OP.
I usually use an iPod and subtitles (if the game has it)
I have monkeys. We abit of training I can make them send emails. Will it do?
They type in English, right?
They can type in 5 languages, English included. So we can flood Gabe's email box with:Portuguese, English, Spanish, Russian and Japanese emails!
This thread seems to have gone a little cold... I'm 100% in support of this thread, and I will be re-posting this on the Steam forums shortly!
Mp3gain anyone? Let's you normalize all your music to the same volume, quite handy.
I'm not going to click anything. One could also not be cheap and buy a keyboard that has built-in media player controls.

How many times have you been listening to your favourite track in a heated game, rocking to dem beats, when suddenly- bam!
You need to alt-tab to adjust the volume, (or a track you don't like comes on!), and your game is disrupted or may even crash!
You can't play it separately (like on your ipod), because you want to be able to adjust the volume quickly on the fly! You can't use WMP, Winamp, or iTunes because that involves Alt-tabbing, which can get you killed!
I petition the addition of a Media (or music) player in the Steam in-game overlay, with the ability to change tracks, play, pause, and adjust volume at least.
Click play if you share my pain!
