Because you buy around 2 games from their in-house development studios every few years. around 98% of the games you play are from third parties. Microsoft do not own third parties. Halo is coming out. Ergo, Microsoft is abandoning no one.
Stop the bitching and just wait and see what happens.
Indigo_Dingo: And by your logic, Consoles are still more hardcore because of Street Fighter II.
You mean arcades are also more hardcore than consoles because of Street Fighter 2 as Capcom have ported the game to all sorts of platforms.
Including the PC, by the way. SF2 was ported to everything back in the day. Everything. Even the C64.
So like I said, all consoles that have it in a form thats not the Virtual Console or whatever its called on the Xbox are considered Hardcore due to it being there.

If that's the case, you still have backwards compatibility on the 360 and the Anniversary Collection works perfectly on that (which incidentally also has the best version of SF3: Third Strike with online play after GGPO).
When PS3 or XBOX owners rant about true HD hardcore gaming like their parents have lost their ritalin it's all fine and dandy. When PC gamers educate the unwashed about the proud heritage of games on home computational devices then suddenly a line has been crossed. I don't know.. (j/k)
Fredrick2003: I find it interesting how everytime something tries to implement new devices for input it is "killing hardcore gaming".
No-one complains about Sony's one, mainly because they were showing off why it was good for the hardcore. If its a major focal point and it has no application, then people will complain.

I do not complain about Sony's motion control for the same reason I didn't complain about Nintendo's. Sony have already done things like EyeToy that have the same appeal as Wii Sports while releasing software like SotC in the same way that Nintendo released Mario Galaxy. Microsoft on the other hand have killed PC staples like Age of Empires and Mechwarrior while releasing console action games on the PC, 2 years after anyone stopped caring.
CyberAkuma: Everyone is excited about Microsofts stance at the motion controller.
I've have serveraltimes seen posts on this very forum from exited gamers what Microsoft is bringing to the table as far as games goes with the Nathal.
Who the hell are you trying to fool, really? Do people honestly believe that Nathal is a way to enhance "hardcore" gaming? People(fanboys *ehum*) sporadically and frenetically debate how the Nathal would be awesome in Halo 4 or your average generic space-marine third-person shooter on the Xbox 360.
The demos and clips that were showcased as E3 for the Nathal were nothing but casual titles, party-games etc. Microsoft is leaning towards the casual gaming boat with Nathal and what surprises me is that the people who call themselves "hardcore" are running 100 mph in the wrong direction. Rather than supporting the Nathal, they should oppose it. You seriously don't think Microsoft wants its cut from the casual gaming audience? The Nathal is one approach to it and to think that you would be able to play any FPS, TPS or RTS with that ...thing is just ludicrous.
The stupidity of fanboys is limitless and it has always eluded me, but crowning Nathal as the "Wii killer" is not only immensly stupid - because even if it did "kill" the Wii you would have a console that is not only abandoning the hardcore gamers and embracing the casual audience but also becoming the king of shovelware. (or wave-you-arms-frenetically-ware)
Is this really what people want?
Is Microsoft abandoning "hardcore" gaming with Project Nathal? Perhaps claiming that it is; is certainly a bit too harsh but to me as a gamer enthusiast I am terrified that the Nathal will replace the Xbox 360 controller. Microsoft is leaning towards the Nintendo audience and Nathal is; as far as I know a bridge to that. With FaceBook and Twitter integration to the Xbox Dashboard to me - the message is clear. The Xbox 360 is going further away from being a gaming machine and more of an entertainment machine. Xbox 360 fanboys have bashed the Wii for being the "casual" gamer plague that alegedly is ruining gaming (and perhaps in a way it is) but the Xbox 360 leaning in that direction and everyone supporting it; to me is just senseless.

I'm sorry, what was that? I can't hear you up there in the clouds.
(I'm just kidding too.)
But yeah. I think the point is that both of them should lighten up. All the fans can take it too far.

Yeah, but those NeoGeo fans are the worst at taking things too far, right? They should all just jump of a moderately high cliff. (Into calm and safe waters.)
No, who do you think they are, Nintendo?! They've learned their lesson from nintendo about turning their back on the fan base. Now they plan on perfecting what they started and doing something better with it. That won't stop them from making other games. And besides, demo games are delibrately simple and easy to show off the possibilities and THEY'RE DEMOS, so they don't need the attention and development a full game that people would go and by woud require.
They're impossible to keep contained, little Nazi's that they are.
