Maybe an alternative timeline or something? that would at least be somewhat different for a time althoguh I generally like the world war games the worst setting would have to be houses. I cannot stand the sims after playing the first one because of this. All you do is live the life of a tiny you who happens to own a massive plasma TV a 2000 room house and can't ever seem to get to work ontime bah bores the hell out of me. |

Actually, though Finland wrought tremendous havoc upon the Soviet forces, they didn't actually fight them off. In fact, they still in the end were forced to surrender when Soviet troops, led by better generals this time such as Timoshenko, managed to break through the Mannerheim line and begin a march for Helsinki. In the end the Fins had to give the Soviets the land they'd originslly been threatened to give, plus a little extra for the trouble. To this day the Karelian land taken still belongs to Russia. |

Boring and brown you say,, WW2 perhaps? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 68 Joined: 16 Jun 2009 | In my opinion, the two worst settings are WWII Germany or in a modern city. What really turns me off from those settings is that they're both real life setting. I don't play games to see the real world or get a history lesson. When you have nigh limitless possibilities in terms of setting, why on earth would you want to take us to a muddy field in Axis controlled France, or a city that you can actually visit? Those two make for some pretty drab settings. And since there seem to be some WWII game fans in this thread I feel it is necessary to emphasize the first three words of my post: "In my opinion..." I'm just giving my opinion and I do not mean to offend anybody with it. If you like games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, that's fine with me. |

That said, in Final Fantasy it actually works, and it is handy for conveniently organising a team (imagine trying to control all 4 characters in FFX in real time.) |

Lol.... I like games set in urban environments. The woods or jungle is probably my least favorite... just nobody around and it's hard to find your way through. Also, JRPGs, are they a setting? I thought genre. |

JRPG's? REALLY NOW?. Granted it's a genre and not a setting, does that makes you an ignorant prick sir? EDIT: Sorry for the doublepost. |

To be fair there are some good JRPGs but it doesn't seem ultimately worth it to me if you have to wade through the bad ones. Take Valkyria Chronicles for example, it was just not what I was promised by Indigo Dingo and other reviewers of notable... err... like... mindedness? I'm at a loss, I really am. The only two JRPG series I consider good are ones by Level 5 and ones by Square Enix. Sorry about the vague statement. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 503 Joined: 24 Jun 2008 | The DnD style fantasy setting. I just hate it without any good reason. I wouldn't say any fantasy setting because I really like the fantasy settings in some Japanese games. |

but... but I like killing Nazis it's like in my top ten favorite things to do I'd have to go with Feudal Japan to totally spite the Dynasty Warrior series (I know it doesn't count for the Gundam part of the game but they can go away too) |

Counter-terrorism settings may be getting there as well, but I enjoyed CoD4 too much. My favorite type of setting would have to be like the one in the original Spyro the Dragon for PSX. I could really lose myself in that game. The soundtrack, the characters, the scenery, all very nice and relaxing. Spyro 2 was also a very nice continuation of said setting. Basically, a fantasy setting that doesn't it take itself too seriously is my pick. |

Maybe so, but have you ever seen a WWII videogame about that? I sure as hell haven't. Besides, so few people know about what Finland did, sure they may have lost in the long run, but damn it! Those guys fought heroically and did pretty good, considering their circumstances. |

Wow, that shows a lack of imagination. How about green fields? Green forests? Grey urban environments? White snowy winter settings? Hell, the fucking GLOBE. It's called a world war for a reason.
Dynasty Warriors is set in China.... |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 506 Joined: 25 Feb 2009 | Cooking Mama is always confined to the kitchen due to sexist stereotypes. A capable woman like that should be in charge of her own restaurant, but no. The glass ceiling is far too strong for poor Cooking Mama, who is so oppressed by male hegemony the only power she enjoys is getting other people to cook for her or her guests. So sad. Another thing that bothers me is: few good games are set in Australia. It's like Crash Bandicoot doesn't even acknowledge that the Bandicoot is an Australian animal. There would be tons of good game potential in Aussie settings, but the Censorship board might have issues with the whole Australian historical video games thing because Aussie history is less than perfect. |

JRPGS.
I'm sorry, but I rather like WWII games, why?
Because it's funny to laugh at the past's patriotism.
