"The CEO of Tecmo Koei has stated that he is hoping for a price drop to the PlayStation 3. Kenji Matsubara, in an interview with CVG, said he's made it known to Sony that the company is interested in seeing such a move. "Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price', but I don't have a clear view on Sony's situation," he said. "It's definitely a way of boosting the PS3 market, but it's Sony's strategy and I don't know their cost structure.
Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut." According to recent rumors, Matsubara may get his wish this fall when Sony introduces the Slim PS3. All signs point to Sony making plans for a PlayStation 3 price drop alongside the Slim to bolster sales and please publishers. Even if those rumors don't pan out, though, at least his request was far more polite than a certain other CEO. He even used the word "please."
Okay, I'm not going to lie. I wish to buy a PS3 mid next year, so I guess this doesn't apply to me. However to Tecmo Koei...
I don't think they understand about manufacturing costs and their strategies (and neither do I aside from the obvious), hell they practically said it themselves concerning Sony. Sony are attempting to become profitable. I'm sure they would love to boost the PS3 market, and obviously the price cut whining proves that it would do also, but it's not going to help if they make something that's so expensive to manufacture even cheaper at retail. There is no reason for them to even be speaking right now. You would expect this from gamers, but not companies.
Here's a crazy idea---if Tecmo Koei doesn't like Sony's methods, they could always try developing for the 360. I'm sure Microsoft would love having a Japanese developer on board to boost sales in Japan...there's a business opportunity there.

If I ever did hear one. It's what Microsoft desperately need, because their library of games haven't and probably won't break Japan.
meh. they do need to cut the price. I remember seeing on tv people buying them for friggen 1000 dollars on ebay. those people where getting ripped off big time...sad. truely sad.

They tried that, and it led only to slowly strangling the life out of games as art, and one guy getting an ego the size of Godzilla. Thats right out.

Microsoft kills art, I forgot, whereas Sony fosters it.
...That's why this generation is holistically out of ideas.

Things you may have missed while your head was up your ass.
Dead Or Alive being the most shamelessly exploitative and sexist series in history. Ninja Gaiden pulling a really close second.
LittleBigPlanet being, well, LittleBigPlanet
Oh, and in case you missed it, Sony inventing Games as Art with Ico.

Before you start throwing insults (well, too late there), I'll just remind that...
God of War tops Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive in exploitativeness with its implied sex minigames and I wasn't aware Team Ico invented Moondust. Not to mention DOA is fairly tame stuff compared to Night Trap or even Duke Nukem 3D if you think of it. And if you feel like being up in arms about sexism, it isn't like Sony has been doing too well on that front either. Isn't it also kind of funny that the versions the PS3 gets of Ninja Gaiden manage to be even more exploitative?
SimuLord has a point in that instead of bitching about it, they could just decide to develop for another platform. They have 4 other platforms (PC, PS2, Wii, 360) to choose from so I'm not seeing what the problem is.
All this article states is that Tecmo asks Sony regularly for a price drop, however, it also indicates that they're quite respectful regarding it since they have no idea of Sony's costs, or their business strategy. Before we all go jumping the gun, it'd probably be best to see how these 2 IP's do at retail, before assuming they're going to move their focus to another platform...then again, it's not like Tecmo Koei are PS exclusive developers either. Last I checked, Warriors Orochi 2 came out for the 360 awhile ago. Not to mention Ninja Gaiden 2.
Either way, they've always been decent to Sony, so I'm sure Sony won't disappoint for too much longer.

Hardly. No-one could claim that God Of War is particularly sexual at all, while as you'll recall, DOA still made those beach volleyball games. Your feable justification for that starts...now.
As for Moondust, seriously? That game has a real moving mechanic that in itself manages to tie together a base idea of the human experience?
Like I said, their working with the 360 doesn't work, the PC is an even worse idea, and the Wii they're working on wiith Metroid Other M.

AMEN, and every one that says Sony needs a price cut should shut the hell up, Sony is already selling Ps3's at a loss not to mention that the online is free, as someone else has stated Sony doesn't strangle creative for the sake of making money *cough MC cough* good lord if you cant afford a Ps3 don't get one just remember, when you get an X box and go online
360 buy in
250+ 50 a year x 4 years = 450
Ps3 buy in
500=0=500
with a ps3 all you have to do is buy the system and a game, and Sony is done making what little money they made off the console and game
i estimated the cost of the consoles, that what i bough both of mine for

Moondust was one of the first artistic games. If you want, that game invented art in games, and that was over 25 years ago. Ico can be viewed as an artistic game but it hardly invented the trend.
Considering they both produce alot of Playstation games that net them a load of money (more from Japan though) they should listen to them. Though if Koei wants to favor the 360 instead, I would not mind. Would help Microsoft do better in Japan.

Considering that this whole thing is about them wanting to do better, why on earth would they go to a system thats selling worse? If this is their problem, there's absolutely no way they'll got to Microsoft.

Right, because the PS3 is NOT currently suffering a slow and painful death right now.

No, I'm saying that God of War is sexual.
Hardly. It has sex, but it doesn't make a big deal about it. Its only games that actually make a big deal about it that are overtly sexual.
