OK, I originally wrote this, but now I'm so ashamed of it that I'm going to rewrite it.

Do you like the Metal Gear Solid Storylines?

I understand it well enough, and for the most part, it works great with the steal-action flavor of the games. But denying that the MGS series storyline is convoluted is like denying that the holocaust ever happened; no one will believe you, and there's a million Wikipedia pages that will prove it.

I hate the feature movie length cutscenes but other than that the story is ok I guess.

Love the long cut-scenes, but then I am a big movie buff. Stories are generally alright.

Its good...but it has Raiden in it, and Raiden sucks ass...and so does half of Metal Gear Solid 2.

Only played 4, but I read the entire Encyclopedia on PSN. And tbh, I wasn't bored. Was pretty damn sucked into the game so, I couldn't care less about the cut-scene length. Was a great story.

I don't know the complete story as I have not played the 4th but so far I do love it. It's convoluted, far fetched and awesome.

I have only finished MGS4, and just started MGS3 and really like the story in both of them.

I played the first hour or so of Metal Gear Solid and liked it, and played about the first five minutes of MGS2 (Snake's part) and thought it was crap.

The cutscenes are fine as long as they don't dip into that lime green Codec screen. Thats why Metal Geaar Solid 4 worked so much better with its story than the others.

I don't care what anyone says, I love the Metal Gear Solid series's story. It may be convoluted, confusing at times, badly implemented, but we practically expect it from the games nowadays.

I loved MGS3...I think that is still the best MGS so far. Best storyline, and follows the legendary Big Boss. I got so involved with MGS3. MGS2 wasn't so good.

The story, being the original piece it is, is great just a bit long for my liking.

The story is poorly told, constantly repeated to make sure you got it, explained 600 different ways while Kojima was still deciding which versions to retcon out, and really at the end of the day wasn't all that special.

Gamers generally accept this because we're not used to stories taking place in games. Sure, we have "action movie" or "generic space opera" stories a fair amount, but it's rare to get anything more complex, so people fawn over MGS's storyline as the Sophie's Choice of our medium. The problem therein being, as already expressed, that Kojima had (at its bones) a relatively simple storyline going, but he's so bad at telling it that the complexity goes off the scale.

So no, I didn't care for it. You get the same "epic" moments in a bankrupt storyline game like Gears of War, with the added advantage of getting to spend most of the game playing the game. If you have to spend over seven hours explaining something that I could break down in twenty minutes, you're doing it wrong.

I personally love everything about it. The depth of the story just draws you in so much, but you need to pay so much attention to it that it's pretty impossible to sit down and play casually. I personally really like the cutscenes, you just need the time to actually sit down and watch them.

I loved it. Except I didn't like that Meryl ended up with that Johnny guy, or that Snake had to die.

The Metal Gear Solid games have some pretty epic storylines, they're just told in a really bad way. Long cutscenes, insanely long codec and radio calls, and repetition that makes the mind boggle.

For example, some of the subplots and gameplay scenarios repeat way too much. I can understand why MGS2 was so much like MGS1, but why were both of them so similar to Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake?

Also let's not forget how nanomachines are the catch-all for any unexplained or weird stuff that happens in the game. That's why I liked Metal Gear Solid 3 the most, it was the one that dealt the least with future tech pseudoscience.

Lastly, I don't mind long cutscenes in game - even in the Metal Gear games - but only if they're actually relevant to the plot. When I'm looking for a key to get into the next room I really don't want to hear all about the history of nuclear war. How unrealistic are these characters if they're taking time out of an important mission to tell you their life's story and exactly how a particular piece of technology works?

I liked it but if I didn't like the story I wouldn't have bothered to play the game. Its more of a movie that lets you control the characters at certain parts than a game (think of it as such and it seems better). Sometimes it gets a little annoying though with having to hear the back story of everyone you kill.

The story is unique, mixing war with a Kojima twist (super soldiers, walking tanks etc), I love it. =)

It's over the top, unrealistic and has some very, very cheesy dialogue at times...

But oh do I love it so very much.

So Indigo Dingo's finally been banned? Eh, feels different than I thought it would be.

Anyway, I liked MGS2, and have hopes for Rising.

Same. I consider that game to be my favorite game of all time. I liked MGS2, but the storyline lost me. I still enjoyed the experience though.

The series is love/hate for me. I find its plots to be severely overcooked, but I respect the ambition of its creator. As the saying goes, it's better to aim high and fall short than to not try at all.

i love the MGS series, i like the story line and the characters i can't understand how people can complain that the cut scenes are long. i rather have an MGS style cutscene then a half-baked fable 2 scene.

To be honest, I think they're pretty badly written and needlessly convoluted. I have nothing against being a fans for this series for their storylines but the MGS franchise shouldn't be look upon as the definitive game of future storytelling in video games.

I like the story in Hideo Kojima's previous game Snatcher far more.

What didn't you like about MGS 2? It was my favourite personally, but then I only owned 2 and 4 (though I am familiar with the story in all of the central games).

I see your point about Raiden though, I try so hard to like him but he keeps letting me down...

OT: The stories are good, but only if you can keep up with them... Which is damn tricky at the best of times.

The fact that more than half of MGS2 is replaying MGS1 without Liquid Snake coming back from the dead 4 times, the fact that Kojima tried to fill up so much story/anti-war/patriotism in just one game and Raiden.
