FFXI - I say types because the mobs have classes just like the players. Well, most of the Mob are pretty small. But the harder ones HURT alot.
The Clockworks from FlyFF. Goddamn. It's just a shame that FlyFF is a piece of shit.
When you said Mob I immediately thought of like a pack of 11 year olds running around in a group in GTA4 online or something. I got nothing else to really contribute cos I don't play MMO's, sorry.
WoW probably has some larger creatures in its endgame instances, but the largest one I've beaten in an MMO is the Crystal Titan in City of Heroes. He's about the size of Ragnaros. The 2 huge walls that you have to destroy to get to Crys probably count as mobs too; they don't attack but they count as destructible bosses and spawn enemies annoyingly often while you're hammering on them. Some of the rare 'giant monster' spawns in that game might bear a look too, such as the most common one, the giant squid Lucsa. I also heard of a ginormous Clockwerk called 'The Paladin' that the Clockwerk will supposedly build in King's Row under certain specific conditions that dwarfs any building in that district. When I first saw this I thought you meant largest gathering of friendly or enemy characters in an online game... hence a mob. Got any stories anyone?
Bit late guys, but: http://www.leetgamesblog.com/5-huge-monsters-found-in-mmos ;) Cheers!
Edit: You said online game, silly me. My vote could go to Kologarm from World of Warcraft
I've seen over 2000+ people all in a single fleet in EvE online recently, while on an invasion. - Mind you I know for a fact that the numbers get bigger, but that was the biggest mob I was apart of.
I rem fighting of BOB Aliance in EVE,was sitting in my Buzzard cloaked on picket watching a gate when the local spiked and BOB and ALL their slave Corps turned up.I couldn't really do anything other than shit myself and scream on all TeamSpeak channels "There F**king here!".
In a online fps, the biggest i've seen was in Resistance 2. A crowd of 20+ armed with miniguns and assault rifles mowed down everything even though they took huge casualites from grenades.
Okay, here in lies a tale from my RF Online days... In any game, I'm relatively good at killing stuff and getting stronger and death-dealing and so on. But this was at a point where I still needed to up my strengths, and so I turn my sights to bigger monsters.
This guy is larger than pretty much any humanoid in the game (there are three races to choose from). In a real-life confrontation, such a creature could bite you in half. It's like some kind of freakish armored dinosaur. Also, it's never alone. There's always a few others within reasonable proximatey. And when I happened upon a whole entire cave full of them...well. It was fun for precisely a minute where I thought I've actually sneak by. Afterwhich, I was leading an entire parade of every single one of those damned lizards in the place. Because mobs in RF Online, they don't chase you and give up after a while. They follow you FOREVER. Eventually, I got back to the home base, where the perimeter guns just shoot 'em down for trespassing. Now, there are probably worse mobs in the game, and there's definitely this mine guardian thing which people fight over control of, but my experience is the two dozen giant fucking vicious lizards who will pursue you for freakin' ever.
ummmm Fel Reaver from WoW.
I know its a weird question, but I'm thinking of doing an article on huge creatures in MMOs. They don't have to be bad guys either. I believe the biggest I've ever seen is Oacha'noa (http://www.wowwiki.com/Oacha'noa) on WoW. That thing was literally 100-feet tall. Meeting her was a scarier experience than taking down half the bosses in WoW, although I'm not sure what that says about the quality of instances.
How about you guys?
