I'm partial to the Eldar. Despite the entertainment from the Orks, raw killing power of the Chaos Marines, and the sheer awesomeness of the Tau, I can't get past the idea of being... well, space elves.

I'm interested in hearing what other people have in mind as their favorites

I have a collection of over 1,000 fully painted models from all the races, so I just play what I feel like at the time.

A bike based army of space marines is my current favorite.

Tyranids player here, nothing says victory like breaking a man's spirit by just setting up your army.

Imperial Guard.

Considering every monster / horror / superhero movie shows the military being powerless (usually resulting in a few unlikely heroes saving the day), it's nice to see the horrors of the galaxy crushed under the bootheels of ordinary men and women.

The lack of Inquisition in the poll saddens me. However, even if they were there it wouldn't matter: Tyranids = the sexy. I cannot wait until January, when their new 'dex comes out.

Wankhammer? Only decent race is the Tau. At least i can sort of sympathize with them. And with Imperial Guard (a bit). Everyone else is batshit bonkers, and wants only one thing - kill brutally murder everyone else.

And it could have been fun to watch if everyone weren't taking it so damn seriously.

Unfortunately, I couldn't add them if I could. Seems that I maxed the options just with the better known (Dawn of War) races plus Tyranids.

Orks is da best boyz of deze gitz, dem runty boyz get stomped good by tha orkz.

But seriously, Tau have nice models, and are fun to play, if you like a sort of mechanised force give them a shot, I personally think they have some of the nicest looking tanks and variety in the game - but they easily have the worst back story of the lot, seriously.

If you want just a 'cool' army, to collect and paint, I recommend something like Tyranids, nice back story, cool models, and fun to play. Of course if your a real hobbyist imperial guard is a good one, lots of tank models, INSANE variety of forces to choose, and they get a lot of bang for buck.

One race to avoid is necrons, I've heard from necron players that they can get really tiring to play, very little variety apparently.

.....better known races?! The Tyranids are arguably the race after Ultramarines the Space Marines in terms of their recognition. You, sir, have made me a Sad Panda.

The MI had power armor that would put anything in 40k and most other settings to shame. It would be like if the Imperial Guard had Terminator Armor with jump packs, mini nukes, storm bolter on one hand and a plasma cannon on the other.

I used to play space wolves. I still have them but I just don't bolster my forces with updates anymore. Shame really, I considered myself to be quite good.

Come on! I can't be the only one who likes the Necrons, I mean... THEY. JUST. WONT. DIE... They keep on coming and coming, relentless, unforgiving, until everything is dead.EVERYTHING.

Also... Caps are important...

The blood drinking angels of death that have a "good" flaw in their gene seed turning them into raging death machines and blood drinking marine vampires.

Its a shame they didn't all fit into the polling options. Okay enough of being reasonable...

You will burn in the cleansing flame of the Emperor for this sacrilege!

The faith and fire of the Sisters of Battle will grant you peace!

What it is about me and fanatical crusaders I have no idea but I love 'em.

Guard because there is nothing like issuing orders to your squads watching them mow down enemy troops, then when they think the worst is over you say now for my tanks.
Orks to because its hard to beat a 120 CC attacks from one troop choice

I must agree. Have an Ultramarine flavored cookie.
Tyranids are my favorite team in Warhammer. Aah, nothing is so comforting as a carnifex when faced with a bunch of marines..
Their rather large influence from "Aliens" also makes me like them.

Space marines never made too much sense to me. They're too valuable to waste on an open battle field where a random basilisk shell or stray las cannon shot can kill them. Yet even in their codex we see hundreds of them standing toe to toe against a Tyranids or Orks like a much of militia men. They couldn't hope to win a fight out numbered 50,000 to 1.

Now Imperial Guard. There you could have a solid wall of meat to stop Xeno incursions.

Imperial Guard FTW.

Steel Legion especially. Entirely Mechanised elite infantry with masses of tanks to back them up, c'mon. you can't really beat that.

And with the new codex, small amounts of elite infantry are made even more potent. (30 lasgun shots at BS 4, fuck yeah!!)
