??? Why is this a flame thread? =/ |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2805 Joined: 30 Aug 2007 | I've no idea if there are any good exclusives for the 360 - you tell us as a good game is mainly subjective... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2805 Joined: 30 Aug 2007 |
Just correcting that as 3 of those games are on PC, so not exclusives. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 544 Joined: 26 Dec 2008 | i wouldnt consider this a flame thread he already owns a ps3 and is considering a 360. god people are quick to say that. anyway i own both and for the most part i do play my 360 more. the major thing that you will notice is how much better the online play is, and pretty soon you will start buying any games that you want to play online for the 360 over the ps3. im not a fan of halo but gears 2 and fable 2 are definately worth getting, also left 4 dead 2 comes out next month. |

You're right but they they aren't on the PS3 wich is what he basically asked... |

PC is a platform not a console so they are all CONSOLE exclusives. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1530 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I have all three consoles, and it works well for me *BUT* I prefer the 360 for its controller and the fact that way more of my friends are on XBOX Live than they are on PSN. Thus, the PS3, for me is effectively my PS2 emulator and allows me to get into the meaty exclusives (LBP, inFamous, Uncharted 2, etc). If you will be playing your PS3 for almost everything and only using your XBox for exclusives, your first question should be, "How good is my PC?" There are very, very few exclusives to the 360 that don't make their way to the PC. If your primary interest is money, suping up the PC a bit might save you some cash. Then again, gaming is a hobby, and like any other hobby, you have to collect the right tools. I bet those guys who build boats in bottles don't try to modify a coat-hanger to build the ship-part-placer, they go and buy one for 69.99 at a hobby shop. At least, the real Model Ship in Bottle Builders do. I guess there might be casual MSiBB's that do the coat hanger thing. So I guess what I'm saying is that you should buy one. No one likes the casuals. - J |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2761 Joined: 6 Jun 2008 | Yes you should get an Xbox 360. Who wouldn't want to have the broadest range of available games possible? I myself hope to own a PS3 in the near future but I'm still quite backlogged on game for my 360 and Wii. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1766 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | I'm very happy with my 120 GB Xbox 360 Elite with cool running, quiet, 12.1 A Jasper motherboard, but I doubt I would have bought it if I already owned a PS3. It just seems a bit decadent to have two. However, given that I started off with an original Xbox and still consider Halo to be one of the best games ever made (much better than the Halo 3 campaign, or ODST, or the disappointment that was Halo 2), it was obvious and inevitable to keep with the only brand that would carry the sequels (I didn't know at the time that they would be lack-lustre) - the upside is that in all cases: 2, 3 & Firefight, the multiplayer has been improved and it is for that alone that I keep coming back to the game. I recently sold my copy of Halo 3 to my brother and bought ODST as it comes with a multiplayer disc for all of the Halo 3 maps (some of which aren't available for download), despite having paid to download them originally - aarggh! If you really are into game development get an Xbox, but I would of thought that you would be better off using Xcode on a Mac to make some iPhone games, or buy the Unity middleware which has an affordable licence on a Mac. Indie games on the Xbox don't see much money once Microsoft have taken their cut, Apple are much fairer. Also, they make you work on stuff like Internationalisation, bogging down development. By the way, Gears of War is rubbish. |

I'm sorry if it looks that way but I swear I don't want to start one of those stupid flame wars or be a troll. I'm just trying to decide wether or not it's worth buying an extra console. As for the exclusives, I'm mostly into action/adventure, western RPG's (no wacky hair JRPG's), stealth games, race games and tactical shooters. Also, how's the battery life for an Xbox controller? And what battery does it use? It is a "Xbox360" battery or something, right? Not like you have to insert AA or triple A batteries or anything, right? And can you use Sony's PS3 headset for an Xbox360? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2070 Joined: 8 Nov 2008 |
You need AA batteries unless you get the rechargable battery pack, which last around a day of solid playing. But you can charge while playing if you get the right kit. You won't be able to use the ps3 headset but if you don't buy the Arcade package, you should get a mic. If I didn't make things clear, quote me. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 554 Joined: 31 Aug 2009 | gears of war 1 and 2 are excellant so is halo 3 i aint got odst yet future exclusives as for downloadable games if u like they're style they're all top notch for you, anyway it depends on your budget as there are alot of games coming out e.g. mw2, ac2, dragon age, uncharted 2, ratchet and clank, borderlands(today) and thats just this year next year also has a good list so it depends on ur budget if ur well of and are a heavy gamer then yes otherwise no. |

So you actually have to buy AA batteries? Wow... That's kind of a let down since those things cost "a lot" of money =/. And, what is this "rechargable battery pack"? And can you plug in a 360 controller and play like that without using batteries? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2648 Joined: 29 Aug 2009 | Yeah, go for it. You'll get your hands on a few good exclusives. I say you play Halo and Gears more, before making your mind up. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1530 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 |
For the love of all that is holy, buy the battery packs. They last a good long time, and you can plug them in and keep playing while they charge, much like the PS3 ones. Also, no, I believe you will need the MS headset for XBox, but they're not that much, so it's not a big deal. Unless you get the wireless one, I guess. That could be expensive. - J |

As someone who didn't quite love halo 2 or 3, but still plays halo 1 on PC; ODST is a fantastic game. As for Fable 2, that's a very excellent game. Get it. Referring to the controllers and their supposed "lack of battery life": I have two controllers with a rechargable batter pack in each. They last for about a solid day, but you just stick them in the charger (don't get a plug & play recharger, they're shite) whenever you're not playing. Actually, get a plug & play one in case they run out of battery mid-game, but I never have to use that any more. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1712 Joined: 6 Oct 2009 | you don't need to go for the elite, I still have one of the 12GB premium ones and It works fine for me. also oh and the splinter cell series and i'm not going to give anyone any flame fuel buy saying what console is best... scratch that, My first love the Game Cube is the best. Don't beleave me? Drop your 360s and PS3s down a hard wood staircase and see if they still work, my game cube does. =) |

Left 4 Dead was also on PC |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2805 Joined: 30 Aug 2007 |
Yes but anyone with a half-arsed PC which is most of the modern world, can play some of those games on the PC. If you think that fact should be ignored, then that's just being naive. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1281 Joined: 28 Aug 2009 | It really depends on what you're looking for. If you have a PC capable of playing current games and you like to game on PC as well, then it's worth noting that some 360 titles like Left 4 Dead and Mass Effect show up on PC as well. If you don't game on PC or you don't want to upgrade then by all means get a 360. The new systems have vastly improved failure rates and the exclusives are great. Most of the good exclusives have already been listed by other members, particularly Halo, Gears, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Dead Rising could be hit or miss, Ninety Nine Nights 2 could also be hit or miss, the upcoming Fable III... plenty of good exclusives coming for both systems, so it really all depends on whether you game on your PC or want to go that route. Personally I recommend the 360, but if you game on PC and have a PS3 already then you're only going to get a few exclusives that you can't play elsewhere. Such is Microsoft's business model. |

Again with the exclusive and non-exclusive shit I see.... it really comes down to whether or not the person can / wants to game on their PC... this is a big factor. Just because you're a PC gamer doesn't mean you can throw it into every console discussion to discount the 360, that's just being naive because you're assuming everyone else is like you. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1164 Joined: 9 Jan 2009 | If you can afford it, there is no reason not to. There are plenty of great exclusives for the 360. I also own both a PS3 and a 360 (and a wii, but I regret that now) and it's totally worth it. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3380 Joined: 11 Mar 2009 | *Insert Suggestion to purchase a Wii here* Also, the 360 does have a lot going for it. Is it stuff you really want though? The main game for the system is shooters. If you like those, get it and purchase a year of Live. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1281 Joined: 28 Aug 2009 | Oh, completely forgot... if you like race games I've heard great things about both Project Gotham Racing and Forza Motorsport both 2 and 3. Yes GT 5 is coming down the pipe, but who knows if it will be better than Forza.... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1448 Joined: 20 May 2009 | No, get a decent PC and you can pretty much get 95% of the 360s "exclusives," and all the PC exclusives, and all the Ps3 exclusives on your Ps3. It worked for me, so I sold my 360 a couple of months ago, after it breaking three times, and I haven't looked back. Plus the online is not worth paying for. It's full of racist, homophobic kids, it has laggy P2P servers on all of it's exclusives and a cluttered interface......with ads even though you're paying. Plus there's no reason to own one over a PC or Ps3 the end of this year and start of next year other than Crackdown 2 the sequel to a mediocre game, more Halo(yipee) and Forza 2. Ps3 has thirteen exclusive games and the PC has hundreds as per usual, and they're not all shooters for ADD children with the story "OMG get the rezenator coz i said so and my dad done this stuff and the locust queen and shit who's actually human for some reason and COLE TRAIN BABY," which make up the majority of the 360 audience. |

Ouch, the main game for the system is shooters? Why? Because of Halo and Gears? By that logic the main game for the PS3 is also shooters cuz they have Resistance and Killzone.... 360, like PS3, gets lots of good games in lots of different genres. |
Muckraker Posts: 259 Joined: 1 Oct 2009 | I say just stick with what you have. The only way it would be worth it at this point would be if they find a way to perfect Project Natal before anyone else picks up on how it works. the real problem is just getting a damned PS3. If you have one, congratulations, you don't need anything else, really. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 491 Joined: 19 Mar 2009 | I would say go for it, I have had alot of enjoyment from both systems but the 360 has more exlusives worth getting(in my opinion) |

Ok, so I'm currently trying to decide wether or not I should buy a Xbox 360. I currently own a PS3 and a lot of games are multiplatform. So I was wondering if it would be worth the money. And also, what Xbox is really the best for me? I'm guessing an Elite since I'm planning on gaming with it (offline and online) but also trying out MS's XNA programming tool.
So, what do you guys think? Worth the extra €250? Or should I simply stick with my PS3 and enjoy the PS3 exclusive and multiplatform games?
I'm also not quite sure if I like the Halo and GoW (Gears of War, not God of War) franchises since I've never really played them properly... However, I did really enjoy the first Fable. It's still one of my favorite RPG's, so I'd really like to play Fable 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction is also looking rather terrific...
Also, are there any other "good" exclusives for the Xbox360?
