UPDATE 11/24/2009:

The game is out, people are playing it, and people like it. A LOT of people. There is one small annoyance that a lot of people have complained about, though, and thats the lack of being able to talk in your private Xbox Live parties while in certain game modes. At first, the idea seems noble: force everyone to use the game's chatting method to get a more talkative community, so that lone wolves won't feel as lone when they're just searching for a few quick deathmatch rounds. At first it was believed that this was done to combat cheating in certain game modes, where players could still talk after they died. This didn't make sense, however, because all of the game modes except for Search and Destroy were respawn-based, and people could still talk to their living friends while dead, anyway.

This "feature" hasn't been received well, though, and thankfully Infinity Ward has been listening. Robert Bowling, the community manager for Infinity Ward (known best as fourzerotwo) has it on good authority through the "grapevine" that we could be seeing the abomination of this forced rerouting of communication once and for all.

Personally, I'm glad. Us being a (predominantly) black site, it's unsurprising for us in particular to run into the racists and the scum of the internet that makes the game unenjoyable. Even then, there are a lot of other douche bags out there who harass people for no reason. Sure the mute button works, but why should one have to continuously use it? Surely, we're gamers. Gamers are lazy, and Infinity Ward hopefully is strongly considering the reversion, but for now we'll tie this up in the rumor mill and hopefully we hear more come of it in the coming days.

Why did they make Party chat? To make it so you could talk to several friends playing several different games. This just defeats the whole purpose of it!

I'm doubtful this will be implemented. The article states that Microsoft is leaving the option open if developers want to take it.

They will most likely have an option to limit party chat to team only in certain game types, and if you want to chat to friends outside of CoD you just play a different game type.

This is, of course, just a guess, but it seems reasonable.

That is true, and I wondered about that myself. Since the article leaves the actual implementation open to interpretation, we will probably have to wait until next Tuesday before we know what they are actually doing with the chat system.

Or just use ventrilo.

And this does happen occasionally. I participate when it does. But we all know XBL is filled with immature brats and full grown idiots. SOME people use Party Chat so they can have a conversation without having their sexuality, nationality, and intelligence challenged by every slack-jawed wanker who managed to figure out how his microphone worked. Taking Party Chat away removes options. And taking away option always has unintended results.

I guess it's good news for people who enjoy Search and Destroy. Personally, SnD is by far my least favorite gametype and I wouldn't be caught dead playing it. Party chat is a way for my friends and I to escape the endless horde of morons that populates XBL.

My only hope is that they introduce an even faster way to mute those morons, preferrably with a single button press.

While I see what they are trying to do, I think that Infinity Ward is putting too much trust in people to actually play this game with strategy. I know I'm not always wanting to be strategic, I just want to run around and shoot people online.

It really only makes sense in Search & Destroy, cause all other game modes have respawns. Though if you're playing Team Tac in a party and it decides to give you S&D, what happens?

agreed I would chat with my friends on COD4 during gameplay or if were all playing something different we could still chat with each other.

that's fucking stupid. I'm almost always on party chat with my friends while I'm playing games because people on xbox live can get really fucking annoying. I was never really like "OMG I NEED THIS GAEM NAO" but this definitely makes me want it less.

Original Post updated: This is no longer conjecture. IW has indeed removed the party chat feature from the majority of the play-lists.

WHAT? Fucking bastards! Maybe I am overreacting slightly, however, I play multiplayer a great deal and I spend every second in a party with some very good friends of mine. I tend to talk while playing, constantly, and when playing with others I go into a party.

This sucks so, so much I really might kill whichever fuckhead moron thought it up. Either I don't talk for a month, the time I'll spend playing MW2 Multiplayer straight, or I don't play the multiplayer for my most wanted game.

Nobody ever talks in the game at all, because they're all in parties. Which moron thought this would be a good goddamn idea? Seriously?

Plus how exactly does talking to the opposition imply cheating, despite the fact that I'm not talking to the opposition I'm talking to my friends?

This is the most ridiculous, bullshit, wankbuggery decision I've seen any fool make on this game, and that's saying something considering the obvious number of imbeciles working in Infinity Ward.

Great, way to axe one of the major selling points of the 360. I HATE game chats. I never use it. I'd rather chat with people on my Friends List that I know and enjoy talking to. I dislike talking to random people in game chats. I shall not have a mic on when playing this game in protest.

What the hell are infinity ward trying to piss everyone off about this game? First the PC gamers, now the 360 players. Watch your backs PS3 guys. I know it isn't as bad as how the PC guys have it but I'm still pissed off about it. I wanna chat to my friends that don't play FPS games you ever think about that infinityward?

Errrm... I don't mean to simply advertise, but you could actually protest. Sign the petition in the post above you. In fact, I've signed it twice. You have no idea how much I don't want this to happen.

IMO they are putting too much trust in people buying a turd with the MW logo on it on the premise that the first one was good.

-The campaign is pathetically short and predictable. 4 hours 30 minutes on regular with all the point twists except one spoiled in the trailers and that one was so predictable that i figured i out an hour before it happened. Gameplay is completely generic "shoot stuff till the boss says walk 10 paces and shoot stuff".
-Price increase and now they are stripping features out of every version with idiotic justifications. "There's too much pirates on the PC, hence why we remove everything that people bought the PC version for". Then the 360 version gets leaked and downloaded a couple million times and they stiff haven't apologised for their insults. I wonder what they'll do to piss of PS3 users. Charge money for PSN?
-Valid concerns raised by pre-release players are dismissed because they are "out of context". How is a glitch that allows you to fire 30 noobtubes per second with unlimited ammo irrelevant because the person who discovered got his game shipped early?
-A price increase, a PC specific price increase, a europe specific price increase, a steam specific price increase, a europe specific delay and a steam specific delay and they still expect us to kiss their ass for their "improvement" of IWnet over dedicated servers.

I think it would have been a beter idea to just make a Ranked/Unranked system type thing like Halo 3 did. In ranked you cant party chat, in unranked you can.

But also in unranked you can still rank up, i just said unranked because thats what it is in Halo 3.
