StarStruckStrumpets: By Party Chat, does that mean the actual function of Party Chat, or the in-game function?
If both, that really fucking sucks. If not, and they're only stopping it in-game, then we can just use the Xbox's system.
The Xbox Live Party Chat that lets you talk to people in other games, not the regular in game chat. It might also include private chats, but there hasn't been any evidence of this either way.
JimmyBassatti: Why is everyone complaining about choices the developer make? People cheat all the time with Party Chat. My friend would help these other kids by telling them where his team mates are so they could kill them. Stuff like that ruins the game for me. Since I only really play FFA and TDM, it won't affect me, really. Just talk to your friends in game chat?
How do they cheat? There is only one gametype where you can not talk to your team at all times, even when dead: Search and Destroy (Hardcore S&D as well, but I count them as one). I could understand if they were disabling the party chat for that game type only, but they're eliminating it for almost every gametype, which makes no sense.
Besides, the only game I've ever played where you could really use Party Chat to cheat was Gears of War 2, since dead players had a ghost cam. It's beyond useless for CoD.
Look on the map and tell them where they are? That's what a lot of people I have on my 360 list do, and it can really turn the tide of the game to the other team if they get help like that. You could just mute everyone and talk to your friends. Just don't talk about embarrassing shit.
You can't look at the map, unless it's a private match and the Host specifically allowed it. When you're dead, all you can do is spectate the remaining players on your side. That's it.
Not while they are dead. Why does it have to be when they are dead? Couldn't they be alive, in a party, and tell you where?
Yes, but I don't really see how that's an issue. Either: A)They're alive on your team and telling you where others are, which can be done (and, indeed, is partially what chat is for in the first place) without party chat B)They're alive and you're dead, thereby making them feeding you intel completely pointless C)You're both alive in separate games, at which point what is the point?
Those are the only possible situations I can think of where what you've said can be done, and none of them are cheating. To be frank, it sounds like you don't really know what you're talking about with this.
you know ive read a lot of your posts its like you refuse to acknowledge people cheat in game with parties and if you say that they dont then your just thick
Team games where you actually talk to and strategize with your team? UNHEARD OF! DEVILISH! How will we deal with this?! Oh my, all of multiplayer is just RUINED! Curse that horrid company Infinity Ward for this abomination!
Yes, I am sarcastic sometimes. Why do you ask?
And this does happen occasionally. I participate when it does. But we all know XBL is filled with immature brats and full grown idiots. SOME people use Party Chat so they can have a conversation without having their sexuality, nationality, and intelligence challenged by every slack-jawed wanker who managed to figure out how his microphone worked. Taking Party Chat away removes options. And taking away option always has unintended results.
do you know what mute is? i dont think you do
I know how to mute buddy. I became quite good at doing it quickly before the NXE came out. What if I want to talk to people uninterrupted, or to people that aren't playing the game? Please refrain from treating people like retards when you don't have any idea what they are talking about.
again all the first half did was state why to mute and the second is why there was private chat before the party
Are you telling me you only have one friend? C'mon now. And I wouldn't be surprised if private chats were disabled in MW2 for the same reason Party Chats are being disabled.
im not addicted to being social unlike some people its not so damn bad to not be able to talk to your friends while playing there not giving you rubber bullets there just not letting you talk to your friends while in game
for those of us who were around pre-party xbox live it was annoying when some one didnt have a mike the only thing party chat does is increase the no mike percentage

Yes its bad, I don't really care for MW2 (CoD sucks on the xbox, and they ruined it on the pc), but Microsoft is leaving the door open for other devs to make the same idiotic decision, which does worry me.
And do you know why people dont use mics? Its because literally every single person on XBL is between the ages of 12 and 15, racist, sexist, probably fat, with a voice 6 octaves too high, and a terrible human being in general. I have literally ZERO people on my friends list that I dont know from RL or WoW, and I would much rather talk to people I like than listen to a middle schooler rant about how much he hates gay black people.

this sucks
You really don't get it do you? We pay good money to use Xbox Live. Party chat is an integral feature of that service which, again, we are paying for. Infinity Ward, as a third party developer, do not have the right to deny us a service we are paying for, especially when this service isn't their's and is in no way connected to them.

People do use it to cheat in CoD, but it's done by such a minority that it's not worth getting rid of half of my enjoyment of the game over.

I was around pre-party too man. I know how bad it sucks to have to deal with team-mates that aren't there. I realized after a while though that people who don't want to talk to people in the game, aren't. Ever. So why force them to? They aren't going to provide anything meaningful.
And this really isn't about just MW2. This is opening the door to developers taking out functions like this at a whim, leaving a once unified service into a hodge-podge of limited communications, and eventually limited playability. I would have been pissed off if they did this in ANY game, let alone the one I am going to be spending a good portion of my time in in the next several months.

you have no legal mind you are not buying a damn dog you are paying for a service party chat is a thing that was added to this service but they can take it away if they want you never signed a contract that directly says you get party chat and as it stands you dont like you can stop using the service

but again it doesnt matter if you dont like it then dont buy the game and even so this was a option for all game devolpers not something that they told microsoft that they wanted to do it was offered and they took it

The service is Xbox Live. The people that are blocking party chat are Infinity Ward. Regardless of whether or not I signed any contract, a copletely different company shouldn't be able to block stuff. If Microsoft turned it off, I'd be pissed, but at least it would make sense.
Original post updated, it seems like the complaining done by the community actually worked: Party Chat may be returning to Modern Warfare 2, with the possible exception of S&D, since that is the only game type Party Chat actually effects negatively.
