tellmeimaninja: I'm really starting to hate these petitioners. Here's what you do if you want to talk to friends: PLAY WITH THEM.; If you don't want to hear the idiot kids: MUTE THEM. The game is a week from release. Your petitions will affect NOTHING. This one's the absolute worst, since it only affects console players. Guess what: THEY CAN'T GIVE YOU A F**KING PATCH. Now stop whining, and deal with it.
Actually, they can give him a patch. Games install on current gen consoles, and download patches jsut as on the pc.
jboking: Well, that sucks. You know, if you really cared that much there is one thing you could do.
Find another game to play
"Oh," you say, "But it's Modern Warfare 2, it's the biggest game evar. I have to play it so them making design changes that hinder something I enjoyed about the last game is wrong!"
No, no it isn't. It's their choice as to what is included in the game. If they are set in this decision you may just have to get over it and play anyway. If you just can't get over it, then play a different game.
Finally, it is good to remember that they owe you nothing. It's their game, if the multiplayer turns out shitty when it comes out because they made some bad choices, than so be it.
Again, I may be willing to support this argument under most circumstances, but Party Chat is not theirs to get rid of. It's a core feature of XBL, one that I pay a pretty penny to MS for, and IW, as a third party, has no right to get rid of that, especially when, as I've noted above, it's for nothing.
I'm almost certain that when you agree to pay for Live you are paying for whatever MS approves is done with it, not the individual features. If MS decides that it is fine for IW to remove party chat, then it is. Sorry, but that is quite simply how the world ticks. After all, all Xbox Live features are subject to change as approved by MS.
Believe me, I am sad that IW seems to be actively trying to get people to hate their game before it comes out, but don't assume that they must have something in it or included in it simply because you are paying for live.

True enough, I suppose. I was really looking forward to this game too, but this is just too much of a dealbreaker for me. Oh well, at least this settles my indecision over whether to get this or Assassin's Creed 2.
OK, all of you people saying "Oh boo hoo go whine about something else" have obviously never used this feature. Ever since the NXE, there hasn't been one time that I haven't used this feature while playing with friends.
I agree that it should be restricted in Search and Destroy, but every other mode? I don't even talk when I'm not in a party. You know why? I'll say to my friend "You know, we should invite ____ after this game". This is promptly greeted by at least 3 10-year-olds named "X supA sn1p3r ii x" yelling "Shut up you faggot or I'll fuck your mum!".
I despise playing with random people for this reason. If the team isn't a bunch of loudmouth idiots, it's the polar opposite, where NOBODY talks. Other than Searh and Destroy with friends, there is no strategy to be discussed in COD. Even then, we'd rather talk about what happened today or a funny video we saw. You know why? It's just a fucking game that I play to relax! Since when does the game need to have tournament-strict rules? I don't want to win that badly.
To people saying "Use private chat then", well, no, you can't. That's one on one, which is pretty much useless. Also, to people saying "get a party of friends so you're all on the same team", you are constantly interrupted by loading screens and the shouts of the other team in the lobby, as the OP said. I, for one, don't want to have to go back to muting each person individually on the team at the beginning of every game.
Yes, the amount of petitions are getting annoying, but this one hits millions of people hard. We paid for this feature, and it greatly increases our enjoyment of the game, so why not protest? Sure it probably won't do anything, but at least IW knows how many people it pissed off. We're also protesting about something that will seriously hamper the game experience, not something insignificant like "we wAnTz m0r3 m0dez hurhur r1p0ff!". What's next, removing headset use during the game? How about not being able to use the dashboard in-game beacuse of its potential for distraction? The point is, this is not IW's feature to restrict. I want what I paid for, end of story.
If you want to quote me to tell me to stop bitching, then don't. You won't change my mind, you'll only piss me off. This thread is to round up support for the petition, not question its validity.
Very nicely worded, this is pretty much what I've been trying to say. I mean, I have my most fun on XBL in a massive party, usually with everyone playing different games, and it feels like a ripoff to lose that because of a vast minority of cheaters.
orannis62: True enough, I suppose. I was really looking forward to this game too, but this is just too much of a dealbreaker for me. Oh well, at least this settles my indecision over whether to get this or Assassin's Creed 2.
Now that is the attitude to have, free market backlash is the best teacher for big companies.
link141: Get your friends to play in the same match.
Not that easy. Not all friends are going to get this game or necessarily play it at the same time, and there's no reason to be restricted this was. It's completely needless.

Yeah, although it sure as hell won't be enough this time.

I can understand that because sometimes me and my friends play different games and it's just funnier talking to people you know than moronic little kids on xbl.

Here's hoping. Although if they make us pay for DLC to allow Party Chat, I swear to god...
Ok according to WePlayCoD to their knowledge it's true, there's nothing atm that is going to change that, this petition is likely not going to do anything, but none the less I signed it. Look this pissed me off as well, but according to WPC, it's in TDM(hopefully HC version as well) which is pretty much all I play anyways so im still going to get this.
The things that bugs me the most are 1. Talks of more games implementing this. 2. Why not just in S&D since that's where this very rare problem is occurring. & 3rdly something unrelated to this subject...Juggernaut is still in the game lol
Granted, but no one is FORCING you to give up party chat. if you choose to buy IW's game, its simply your choice.
But I was referring to the petitions in general. They dont have a right to petition something that isn't theirs, and that they don't own, or buy. You cant demand someone change THEIR product, before you are even a customer.

Sure you can. Jack Thompson did and still does it all the time. The Australian Ratings board isn't a customer of the games they rate, but they demand changes. American citizens have the right to demand change even if they don't pay their taxes. Are they wrong to do so? Everyone who pays for XBL has a right to disagree with the rendered service, especially when it is for selective things like this.
This is the internet. We can petition anything, for any reason. It doesn't mean it is going to happen, but there is always a chance that increased awareness can create change. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so we might as well speak up now BEFORE we get lubed up for this kind of narrow-sighted restriction.
There are no alternatives! Someone should really invent a means for a team to speak with one another.
Some way to vent ones frustrations.
Then we'd all be able to avoid the xfire.
Why are people complning. You should not have sgned it twice. In fact, I think this causes more trouble? than you are trying to solve. It is 3 pm here. me, I think it is a little bogus but if you are a fan of the game, it should be no problem.
I almost wasn't sure how to respond to this. It confused me and made me wonder where you were going with things. Lots Of these posts Lately haven't made sense.

Thanks y'all.
This is pretty much the majority of our arguments right there. Well said too.
Infinity Ward can fuck up their own game as much as they want, and the Internet can petition it. But they start charging me for the "service" they give me in barring me from an outside service that they have no control over, for a fucking good reason apparently, then I start signing things.
It's not just the morons, it's not just the loss of friendly chat. It's the fact that IW are messing with things outside their back yard, and it costs me dearly. I pay for the grass their cutting, to continue the metaphor. Why should I pay them to break my gaming experience with their, probably, great game?
No. Nobody is forcing me to play it. But then again, nobody forces me to have both my legs still attached, or to breathe. I have the right to stop breathing whenever I like, but as it happens, I quite like breathing and walking. And I don't like buying a new set of shoes that cut my legs off, because the makers wanted to make sure that nobody was cheating them.
Fumbles: Just get all of your friends together, and join a game...TOGETHER. You can talk to friends now!
Whats wrong with people???
Furthermore, you can still mute the people you don't wish to listen to. It's really not going to be all that different. The only real impact is that you can't talk to people not playing MW2 while you're playing it - good, that should help your concentration.
That's a very big difference. Plus, muting requires you to find the guy in the screen and muting him. Not very long, only a few seconds, but an unnecessary hassle, just because I can't talk to my friends who haven't bought the game, haven't bought the game yet, or are playing something else or are just not in my exact game, on my team.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
you are one of the reasons I like party chat. you don't deserve a name quoted from robot chicken anyway, back on topic, this bugs me. it's a video game. talking to my friends makes the game even more fun for me. so...they're taking away something fun. look, I play CoD4 for fun, not so I can "pwn evry1" and try to have the best kill/death ratio. I really don't care about that stuff...I just wanna have a good time with my friends
Then get all of your friends together join the fucking lobby and Bam! friends. I on the other hand actually talk to my teammates, my Teammates, and it bugs me to see someone in a private chat because when you are being a douche talking to some one playing some other game, I cant tell you that you are about to get killed by that mine, or whatever.
Oh, and when my Team dominates you I will make sure to tell you in all chat how much I enjoyed it.

You really are doing nothing but demonstrating that he's right. Not just by being a general, "douche" as you phrase it, by just saying "Waaah" but you also don't. Fucking. Listen.
"Get all your friends together join the fucking lobby..."
ARRRRRGH! Read the thread. Because guess what? Not all of my friends are going to buy MW2 immediately and then join my game at the same time I'm on, and play on my team every fucking time I happen to want to play MW2.
Let's see...
Not everyone is buying MW2. Not everyone is buying MW2 immediately. Not everyone wants to play the same game mode. Not everyone wants to play at the same time. You can't always get enough spaces in a lobby for all your friends. Not everyone can get into the same game.
I'm starting to think that people like you have no friends. I'm not going to demand that for a simple conversation everyone must join my game immediately, just because you don't have any friends who don't play on your team, in your game, at your playtime and whenever you want.
And what about when I'm not playing the 360? Plenty of times in my party, people go and play their PC, or watch the TV but still chat.
I can't believe anyone thinks this is good idea, not just people who say "Stop whining" but don't actually disagree, but people who fail to see that it doesn't bloody well affect you then of course you don't care!
You want to talk to your team? Good luck with that. You can do whatever you want and try and make sense of online dipshits.
It obviously doesn't affect the way you play the game whether I'm in a party or not. But here's the clincher - It does affect me. A lot. So stop saying "stop whining" and learn that when something affects others but not you, it still matters.
We are the majority of people who chat casually while playing and enjoy it. This changes that. You are the minority of people who have no mic/do talk with teammates. That's fine for you. But this decision ballses up our playstyle and our gaming experience is shot to fuck by it. It is our fight to complain about, as it makes no difference to you.
As for in-game comms... PFA! I've never played a CoD game where anyone discusses any possible form of tactics apart from their tactics to screw my mother. Hence why I avoid XBL inbreds like the cancerous plague they are, and choose to play the game my way.
HG131: Even I agree with this one. But... you're still idiots. Internet petitions suck.
Yeah but how many options are there.
1) Petition the game 2) Refuse to buy the game. 3) Combination of 1&2 4) Do absolutely nothing.
PC players were bitched at for doing exactly what console players are doing. Even if it doesn't get the changes fixed (ever or immediately), it still shows that we can take a stand. This particular issue doesn't even affect me (I'm one of the aforementioned PC gamers), but if nothing else, the petition is symbolic of people who are annoyed with Infinity Ward taking too many wrong steps. There is absolutely zero harm that can come from signing the petition, so hey, why not?
as i said to another person: poor you, only being able to speak to 1 friend at a time i really pity you i really really do
Let me guess...
You're:
A) One of those losers not good enough to join a clan but still cares so immensely about the game that they need to win no matter what - therefore they cry and whine when other people are in party chat and begin claiming they must must be cheating, even though chances are very high that's not going to happen because nobody takes public matches seriously.
B) You have no friends and therefore have nobody to talk to.
C) Your a troll, either on XBL (who therefore will love this move because you can piss people off) or a troll here - judging from previous posts I'd say both.
D) All 3.
Those are the only reasons I can really see anybody actually supporting this move - it's pathetic on IW's part.
That's ridiculous. How can you call it cheating anyway? If you're in a party with friends, chances are you're going to be in THEIR fucking team. My god, I'm signing that petition and I hope a lot more people do too.
By the way, does my username strike you as one which would be the creation of an idiot? :P

True most XBL people are 12 year old douchebags, but I get all of my friends, who play competitively, and we all play together so no party chat does not affect me at all. I do use tactics and I win, so maybe you need to play with some real players and just force the lobby with people you know.
A lot of people posting on this thread are the same one that have a problem with the PC fiasco and I have to a lot of the arguements I have seen here for supporting IW moves are complete and other bollox.
I may not be a full console gamer(well anymore) but I know enough about XBL and etc to know that this is another complete bullshit move XBl doesn't exactly work as in just get a party together and play in THIS instance as you can be in a party in the first place the way I understand it.
of all the complaints that i heard about mw2 this is the 1st one that actually is pissing me off. i play codwaw on xbl alot and its always with my friends and always in party chat. yes i will still be buying mw2 but i may not be playing it as often as i thought i would. good thing i just bought dragon age....
There is the thread originally telling me that IW, in their fuckhead wisdom, decided to have all party chat disabled during every game mode in multiplayer but Free-for-all, Mercenary Team Deathmatch and Third Person Teams. I'm not sure what that last one is either.
This is wonderful news. If there is anything I utterly hate with say L4D in this example, it's all those f*cking idiots who keep speaking their own moonspeak language nonstop despite everyone telling them to speak F'CKING ENGLISH.
And who the hell have ears to keep hearing people speaking nonstop through an entire game?
I utterly hate HATE people with microphones who just can't shut the hell up.
That's ridiculous. How can you call it cheating anyway? If you're in a party with friends, chances are you're going to be in THEIR fucking team. My god, I'm signing that petition and I hope a lot more people do too.
By the way, does my username strike you as one which would be the creation of an idiot? :P
No.... it may be prejudice, because I've gotten to know you as the intelligent, but sad, knight box thing in black and white.

Yes but not everyone does play competitively. Plenty of people are laid back when it comes to CoD, or at least don't discuss tactics with their team. It's easy to be Lone Wolf because everyone is one.
You admit party chat does not affect you, and as such, neither does the petition. Arguing with you is a pointless move as you aren't set dead against me, it would seem, but don't care for my side of the argument.
"Real players" - Hold IT! I stopped reading there. I'm officially labelling you "douchebag". That's your tag in my head.
That's what l337 people say, "ololol y dont uu plaei wiv sum reel plaiursss?!?!!!". Fuckheads who I avoid. I don't like people who are, apparently, "real players". We don't get on. They are, generally, military obsessed adults who can't lose because they say they're a Marine, a ten year old who is terrible because they have the mental capacity of a dead fish or they're "l337" people of all ages who play to win and vare assholes to all but themselves. I am hacking, apparently, if I kill them more than once consecutively, and I steal their kills constantly if they're on my team.
No, I'm ending this argument here and now, as you have presented yourself as fucking ignorant (I've told you a thousand times why we can't all join a lobby but apparently this is too complex for you to understand) and as l337 which means I kill your kind of person in their sleep with a garotte.
as i said to another person: poor you, only being able to speak to 1 friend at a time i really pity you i really really do

I genuinely laughed at how ridiculously correct you are. Over a year ago now, I yelled at you because of Call of Duty, and here we are, a game later, and we still fight people about it.

That wasn't so much a long, eloquent rant as it was obscene and unintelligible. Still, you made your point in a way that resonates with me, a non-CoD player. Good on you, I guess. I'll consider signing.

No, I'm ending this argument here and now, as you have presented yourself as fucking ignorant (I've told you a thousand times why we can't all join a lobby but apparently this is too complex for you to understand) and as l337 which means I kill your kind of person in their sleep with a garotte.
as i said to another person: poor you, only being able to speak to 1 friend at a time i really pity you i really really do
Let me guess...

I genuinely laughed at how ridiculously correct you are. Over a year ago now, I yelled at you because of Call of Duty, and here we are, a game later, and we still fight people about it.
In the words of Allen Iverson, "We're talking about practice" or in this case "We're talking about party chat!"
Come on man, you are bitching and complaining about the smallest of things. I did not mean 1337 players either. I meant players who play for the same reasons you do.
Moreover you, the imbecile, is trying to get us to sign an internet petition, that will not work, so why try to change it. IW is trying to make the game more competitive, more then likely due to MLG, because all of the changes have been done in a competitive sort of way. Now whether this is right or wrong is a matter of opinion, and as such I cannot understand why you are complaining , You call me a douchebag when all you have done is cut down others and made a jack ass of yourself, sure I took a shot at you, but hey you are qqing at something so small that it is pretty sad.
If you dont like it, dont buy the game...simple enough.
Actually, they can give him a patch. Games install on current gen consoles, and download patches jsut as on the pc.
