will1182: OK, all of you people saying "Oh boo hoo go whine about something else" have obviously never used this feature. Ever since the NXE, there hasn't been one time that I haven't used this feature while playing with friends.
I agree that it should be restricted in Search and Destroy, but every other mode? I don't even talk when I'm not in a party. You know why? I'll say to my friend "You know, we should invite ____ after this game". This is promptly greeted by at least 3 10-year-olds named "X supA sn1p3r ii x" yelling "Shut up you faggot or I'll fuck your mum!".
I despise playing with random people for this reason. If the team isn't a bunch of loudmouth idiots, it's the polar opposite, where NOBODY talks. Other than Searh and Destroy with friends, there is no strategy to be discussed in COD. Even then, we'd rather talk about what happened today or a funny video we saw. You know why? It's just a fucking game that I play to relax! Since when does the game need to have tournament-strict rules? I don't want to win that badly.
To people saying "Use private chat then", well, no, you can't. That's one on one, which is pretty much useless. Also, to people saying "get a party of friends so you're all on the same team", you are constantly interrupted by loading screens and the shouts of the other team in the lobby, as the OP said. I, for one, don't want to have to go back to muting each person individually on the team at the beginning of every game.
Yes, the amount of petitions are getting annoying, but this one hits millions of people hard. We paid for this feature, and it greatly increases our enjoyment of the game, so why not protest? Sure it probably won't do anything, but at least IW knows how many people it pissed off. We're also protesting about something that will seriously hamper the game experience, not something insignificant like "we wAnTz m0r3 m0dez hurhur r1p0ff!". What's next, removing headset use during the game? How about not being able to use the dashboard in-game beacuse of its potential for distraction? The point is, this is not IW's feature to restrict. A no it doesn't Halo 3 is at MLG and it does fine. MLG is pretty much consoles ( Sorry I just noticed you said this), which do not use dedicated servers. The quality of the game is not degraded by party chat. Its not like IW took out the ability to shoot while you are running.

Also Online Petitions NEVER work. If you want them to change it you do what "FANS!" actually do. Send in letters saying the exact same thing. Also using some sort of Seed or something helps. On percentages, more people in the Boycott bought the game than people outside of the Boycott, and unlike use trying to stop the devs ruining a game, they just seemed petty. They complained that the colours in L4D2 were all wrong for Christ's sake, and they just really didn't want Valve to charge them for a sequel they made in a year, a fair enough argument at first, until they really didn't want to pay for things that normally Valve gave us for free. Did... did you actually read that link? It says exactly what I said. The title may be worded differently, but Party Chat appears to be disabled in game types other than Merc TDM, FFA and Third Person Teams.

This whole fiasco saddens me. I was looking forward to MW2, a lot. So much so that I decided to spend £lots on the damn prestige edition - and I rarely get excited about games these days.
Repeating what many others have said, I really don't think IW should be allowed to make changes like this, we're paying for a separate service, one which really should have nothing to do with them. So not only are they charging over the industry norm for a game, they are taking away one of the big functionalities of a separate service we also have to pay for. That's just not right. Party chat is very important to me, as I have quite a lot of friends who play regularly on XBL, but don't like FPS's. I play games to have fun, and this change is taking a large chunk of the fun away for me. Something smells funny with all of this, a lot of unpopular changes are being made without any solid explanation. As an ex-PC gamer I'd be furious at the lack of dedicated servers if I was buying the PC version. I don't understand why the have decided to take a step backwards and try and change things, just on the back of the popularity on the series. Its all just so unnecessary.
I just hope to God that these kind of changes don't become the new norm. If my copy hadn't already been sent out to me, I'd have cancelled my pre-order.

Furthermore, you can still mute the people you don't wish to listen to. It's really not going to be all that different. The only real impact is that you can't talk to people not playing MW2 while you're playing it - good, that should help your concentration.
That's a very big difference. Plus, muting requires you to find the guy in the screen and muting him. Not very long, only a few seconds, but an unnecessary hassle, just because I can't talk to my friends who haven't bought the game, haven't bought the game yet, or are playing something else or are just not in my exact game, on my team.

Ok, I get that gamers have come to expect certain things from Developers, but honestly, who cares? It seems almost every complaint I've seen about these news games is about the Devs not doing what they expect or want. Honestly, my suggestion to Devs is to stop giving trailers and statements about the game. If I had people signing petitions on how I should do my job, I'd either stop telling them how I do my job, or tell them to fucking try it.

Eh they are just doing their best to make the MP fair and cheat free. It's no big deal, it just helps those of us who want a cheat free game. Granted there is probably a few who actually use party chat while doing some TDM but still if your desperate to be ing 24/7 chatting with friends call them or just stay in party chat and play uno or something.
If it had a legit chance of lowering cheating, I'd be willing to argue in favor of it but: 1)This would only stop cheating in the Search and Destroy gametypes, as those are the only games where, when you die, you can't talk to teamates unless they're already dead or you're in a party 2)Very few people use this to cheat anyway. It's somewhat of a problem in Gears of War, but we aren't talking about GoW right now.

Its important to remember popular thing are popular for a reason (to steal a line for Yahtzee). Innovation is a good thing but trying to do it by force is a step backwards.

Well said, but this is hardly a flame war. I've only flamed one guy in my life, and it was here, in a discussion about Call of Duty in fact but over a year ago. I was agitated, typing in improper grammar and my arguments had degenerated into dribbling insults.

Furthermore, you can still mute the people you don't wish to listen to. It's really not going to be all that different. The only real impact is that you can't talk to people not playing MW2 while you're playing it - good, that should help your concentration.
That's a very big difference. Plus, muting requires you to find the guy in the screen and muting him. Not very long, only a few seconds, but an unnecessary hassle, just because I can't talk to my friends who haven't bought the game, haven't bought the game yet, or are playing something else or are just not in my exact game, on my team.

Anyways, Like I have said, if a significant portion of your friends do indeed own the game in 5 days from now, just invite them to your game and you can play with them. However, if they do not have the game, you CAN STILL PARTY CHAT WITH THEM ON SOME OF THE GAME MODES, but dont expect to pchat in Hardcore S&D.

Very true, I have made up my mind to just play MTDM forever, but it is still annoying as hell that IW are ruing their own game for no reason.
The reason I signed that petition isn't just because I want something, it's because Infinity Ward need to stop before they ruin their own game with change. Change and innovation are good to a point, but when you break something to change it, that is insanity.
I'm not just angry at them either, I'm trying to get them to see that what they're doing to PC Gamers and Console Gamers alike is the wrong path for them to take in making their game. Their not doing something in the game thats irritating me, their influencing my entire XBL experience and that's something no game company should be able to do. When I'm on their servers, in their game and earning my money's worth, it is their game to fuck with, but when I'm on their game they do not get to mess with who I'm talking to.
As long as I pay for the game it doesn't matter, some people say. Well, yes. It does. It may not matter to Infinity Ward with their hearts of stone, but when I've payed for an experience in total, and they've fucked it up, it matters to me.
IW are making mistakes that are avoidable, or rather, were avoidable. What they are doing now is alienating a good player base and ruining the game they've tried so hard to make popular, they've gone over the edge of common sense and have hurt themselves in the process. They have lost many sales in the PC market, and some in the console market, without need. I'm not petitioning for my wants, I'm petitioning for their needs.

That would be a step in the right direction, to be sure, but it would be even better if they could restrict it so that you simply can't use it to talk to people on other teams in the same game. Of course, even the compromise you suggested would be nigh impossible to implement, this sort of thing needs to be made on an all-or-nothing basis, or it won't work at all.

The point in bold kinda takes a nose dive when you remember they took away dedicated servers and mods on PC, which effectively eliminates all clan/team-based competition. Yes, I'm aware MLG is console-based.
