Gone Gonzo Posts: 1114 Joined: 9 Feb 2008 | Yes! Got it a day early (out tomorrow in Europe), on the day when I really can't afford to waste any time playing it. Ah well, I can listen to the soundtrack while working and look forward to my high-fantasy RPG blissful weekend. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 398 Joined: 8 Jul 2009 | The absolute only reason I am not currently playing the game is becuase my kids are awake(I just happened to get sick the day after it was released). I've found the game extremely enjoyable, best game I've played in the last few years easy. I'm about 10 hours in and thxhoices you have to make are really tough sometimes. The story writing us absolutely epic. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 66 Joined: 22 Sep 2009 | After some more playing... I started with a human sword-and-shield fighter, and grew to despise it about eight hours in. It seems like a six-button version of being a tank in WoW, and if I'd known I would be stuck behind a shieldwall while NPC damage dealers tore into the bosses I'd have skipped it. Fighting things solo is almost like being a rogue, since shield bashing things onto their asses and swinging around to hit them from behind is the most effective tactic I've found. I started over with a dwarf swinging a two-handed weapon, and it's much more my speed. Plus I got to experience the dwarf commoner origin story, which is awesome. I love that dwarven society is shown to have a seedy underbelly just like anyone else's. All in all, though, the combat seems like a necessary chore to me, one I have to complete to see more story. There isn't enough variety to the combat (as a warrior, anyway) to make it more than autoattacking punctuated by the occasional blown cooldown. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe it improves past level 8. Maybe the combat system is just boring. Anyway, I'll probably continue to autoattack and pop cooldowns until more dialogue pops up. The tyrannical kid in Redcliff and the Circle of Magi are awesome. |

Your boyfriend didn't lose KOTOR, he stole it because it's so awesome. Don't feel jealous, no human being can compare to Kotor. That being said, i'm a fan of bioware, and wish my friends would SHUT UP about this game so I can buy and play it. |

Paperboy Posts: 50 Joined: 16 Mar 2009 | I've started my second character, a city elf rouge. For some reason I've never used a rouge as a main character before and am really enjoying being a rouge. My human warrior noble is doing well, lv. 11. Gained a couple of new companions including Shale. Well I'm off to Ferelden for a couple hours. |

I hope he got a bit of sofa time for that. OT: I am certainly looking forward to this game. I don't care about graphics much, so they won't be a game-breaker for me. |

My guess? People are too busy playing it. In fact, I'm going to go play it right now. |

" It gets easier once you manage to recruit a spirit healer. Or if you're a mage just spec into the Spirit Healer tree, it makes everything so much easier. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3304 Joined: 1 Nov 2007 | I hear the console version doesn't hold anything to the PC, so I doubt I'll get it (my PC is a piece of shit, and I prefer console games anyway). Plus I never played Baulders Gate and the like so I'll also miss out on the nostagia value. Maybe I'll pick it up next year some time. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1040 Joined: 13 Dec 2008 | I just got the game home tonight and have spent just under an hour in one of the most dangerous and thrilling quests the game has to offer: logging ontto the "Dragon Age servers" to redeem the codes for the stone prisoner/blood dragon armour. The EA password recovery system is as fierce an opponent as many I have faced... Such excitement, and I'm not even into the game proper! But seriously, hopefully I'll have some reports once I get started in earnest. |

Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 16 Oct 2009 | I felt a bit bummed to have to pick it up on the 360, but that quickly faded as i started playing. the different characters back stories, or Origins, work well to draw you in to your characters story. The gameplay is engaging and fun, and as for the graphics, its an updated version of the NWN engine so that explains the somewhat dated feel, but i find them to fit the game quite well and would not call them bad in the slightest. If you are in to engaging story driven gameplay, this is the game for you. 9.5/10 |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 543 Joined: 31 Aug 2009 | Bought it the day it came out but couldn't play that day due to work. I did download some DLC [Shale is my new favorite character by the way: he reminds me very much of HK-47] On the fourth I played from 9:45am until about 7:30pm breaking for a total of about 30 minutes to eat and do other human things. I am playing as a City Elf, Rogue. It took me a few hours to notice the lack of a karma bar but perhaps I'm missing it. I've found the approval bars though and speaking of which I have: andI have done much in Ferelden thus far and am taking a quick break to do other human things like eating and perhaps watching a movie ... perhaps ... Oh, and despite the apparent lack of a karma bar, I am making great strides to be evil. It is a bit difficult though, to know when I'm being good or bad though ... at times anyway |

If you choose the Mage origin you can later get the Arcane Warrior specialization, which lets you use the Magic skill in stead of Strength for melee weapons. You wont get any of the fighter abilities though. |
Beat Writer Posts: 146 Joined: 29 Mar 2009 | duel wielding ftw... :D iam pretty far in the story (also pc version) but iam not gona say much as to not spoil anything for you guys . i can say this the game has a great story with even better voice acting but...a lot of the things depend on your story progression .... like in mass effect a lot of great things wont happen until a certain % of the game has been completed...its kinda a turn off . and combat/weaponry could use a good bump its frustrating sometimes especially with some of the bosses in the game. but still its a fun game worth the money i say~ |

Well... yes and no. No, as in you can't mix classes. Yes, as in each class gets specializations which unlock new abilities. For instance, Mages can unlock the Arcane Warrior specialization which lets them use high level armor and weapons (this would be your melee + heals thing, I guess). |

The game has one major flaw as far as I'm concerned: I can't decide on what character to play! As soon as I start a new one and finish an Origin story, I start tinking about the other possibilites, and as soon as something goes wrong in combat, I start wishing I was some other class ("Damn, I wish my Rogue could heal!" or "Damn, I wish my mage was melee, Alistair looks like he's having so much fun!". This isn't the game's fault, it's my own failing and it's frustrating! On the bright side, I'll eventually run out of Origin stories and will have to decide on one character :p
Also, I'd just like to point out that this is likely the first major RPG game that might potentially contain Dwarf-on-Elf gay sex, and no, not the female variety. Hell, I want to try that with my first dwarf character just to laugh my arse off at the sex cutscene...
