Actually, I couldn't get that far into the gc one, sad to say. I stumbled upon the Wii one first, and while it was the same locations and people for the most part as the gc one, the lack of sound for the humorous little sidetracks threw me off, and it was consistently hard to stay focused in. I only managed a few hours of play in the original, but it is my goal this christmas (or thereabouts) to try again. |

Yes, I heard the GC and Wii are a lot of the same areas and dungeons, but it's a fun game, I hope you see it all the way to the end |

My bad. Missed the "j" in the thread title. |

It's a bit awkward to get used to the mechanics which are a bit too chance-based for my taste, but at least it tried something new with the old JRPG formula. I can't say they were 100% successful because the game has its share of issues, but I found it a breath of fresh air combined to the average JRPG. I'm secretly hoping for a sequel that works out the kinks in the system, it could be great. |

Paperboy Posts: 41 Joined: 23 Sep 2009 | My advice for a go-to JRPG is Final Fantasy VI - try to get your hands on the original SNES (or a ROM), but take the GBA remake if need be. Yes, it's old, but it has a solid (and not convoluted!) story, memorable characters and excellent tunes. |

What did you think of Davide's accent? Didn't that annoy a bit? It annoyed me a bit. OT: As someone early said, Final Fantasy X. It annoys only slightly with the speed of which random encounters happen (I had 5 in about 50 seconds once) but apart from that, it doesn't annoy. |

My question to you is if there has been a WRPG ever that wasn't so boring I wanted to kill myself. See what I did there? Your question is too open ended and opinionated from the get-go. And for the record, KH is a JRPG, and it isn't annoying. The Last Remnant wasnt annoying, so many games weren;t annoying. |

Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 21 Jul 2009 | The Persona series has saved the JRPG genre for me. The combat is pretty good, the dungeons are well laid out, but the games shine in their story lines. The characters seem very human, especially since you have to fight their "shadow", which reveals their deepest faults, character defects and fears. Also, the game makes you feel like your main character has a personality without saying a single word. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 645 Joined: 5 Jan 2008 | Actually I loathe the FF series except for Tactics and I tend to hate most of the Jrpgs. That said, I would suggest Disgaea 1 and 2 since they seem to realize they are in a Jrpg and have fun with it. Just be ready to lose over 600 hours of your life. |

I found the characters in Persona 4 really annoying compared to 3, and the whole "Accept your bad side to win" thing got old half-way through the first time. I did find Persona 3 really good, outside the combat the characters are pretty realistic though it's pretty much a high-school anime without a lot of the cliches. Not to say Persona 4 wasn't like that, I just found 4's story and characters annoying. |

They have a bit of a stranded story but has a six shooter influence that's pretty unique. The difficulty curve is a bit jumpy but not too bad. WA2 just got rereleased on the PSN and 3 may be a bit harder to find but gamestops usually sell them for about $5. So pick 'em up if you can. Also The Digital Devil Saga series, Pretty much FF10 with eating people and demons. |

Heh, I honestly didn't mind it that much. I know a lot of people found it annoying, just like how a lot of people found Rush' overly naive behaviour most of the time annoying. I didn't, really. I thought they gave the game a bit of charm (and I have my own theory about why Rush' naiveté and David's way of responding to it are very significant, but this is not the place to discuss that). I dunno, I've always had a weakness for flawed gems when it comes to gaming... Probably why I'm such a Troika fanboy. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1762 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | Dragon Quest VIII was pretty fantastic. Of course, your level of enjoyment will depend entirely on what you consider to be annoying. DQ VIII is decidedly old-school, in that it's very hard to progress at a steady clip if you don't set aside time to do some grinding and keep your party nine or ten levels ahead of the curve. If you're not into ball-bustingly difficult JRPGs, you'll probably hate it. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 470 Joined: 1 Oct 2009 | Let me check... no, all JRPGs are extremely annoying. I got to the point where I do not really even give them a chance. I last played Fiesta, and every time the screen told me to do some dumb quest or action or said "No, you can't wear that armor because you aren't in that class!" I would end up saying "No. No. I reject your stupid, stupid, dumb-ass reality and am now going outside so that I do not kill myself from playing this retarded f'ing game." |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2820 Joined: 28 May 2009 | I've played a couple that are both hilarious and not very annoying. Arc the Lad and Dot Hack spring to mind. I want to say Legend of Disgaea as well but there are annoying sections of the game that would put people off of it. |

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Kuchinawa212. I thought that Tales of Symphonia was amazing. Combat was very fun, and the story was exceptional. Also, the game came out on July 13, 2004 (in North America). By the way, nice avatar. :D |

Oh my, You know that game to the date it came out! Psst Don't tell Internet Kraken, he thinks the story was meh |

Well, I had to rely on Wikipedia for the date, but I thought it came out around then. Yeah, I was able to beat him. And, yes, he was quite a pain. xD I should get around to beating Dawn of the New World. |
Beat Writer Posts: 159 Joined: 25 Mar 2009 | Might as well echo some fellow fans on Tales of Symphonia. It has it's cliches (every RPG does. WRPG, JRPG, anything. period.) but what makes the story so awesome is how it has those "didn't see it coming moments" along with those cliches which makes everything better. While I was playing it I was loving how a plot point was developing and it wasn't until I looked back at the story after I had beat the game and thought, "how did they make a cliche thing like that so awesome?" Oh, whenever anyone mentions the name Kratos I don't think of God of War at all thanks to this game. |
