Borderlands and Arkham Asylum.

At this point, Borderlands is my fav game of the year. L4D2 and MW2 might soon change that. L4D2 might not have the story to really be a GOTY, tho.

Realisticly, whether you like it or not, MW2 is a shoe-in to win damn near every award.

I'm putting my money on Uncharted 2.

Batman: Arkham Asylum would receive honorable mention

Brutal Legend, Batman AA, Dragon Age: Origins, etc, etc.

From what I've played, it's still a tough decision, I'd hand it to Dragon Age: Origins though, it's fun, it's difficult, well I'm finding it difficult with my multiple game overs thus far, looks good story so far is rather intriguing all be it somewhat predictable (you know which bit I mean).

I'm going to throw Castle Age into the mix, for web-based game of the year, the damned thing is addictive and gets updated so frequently.

I gotta say Uncharted 2 should be a serious contender as it is the best 3rd person shooter in recent history, if not ever. Borderlands is just a shit load of fun with friends and should be given a shot. Dragon Age might be the best RPG of the decade (sorry ME fans) so even though the console versions are not as good it will still be seriously considered. Unless L4D2 does some really innovative stuff I can't see them getting the nod. MW2 will have to overcome this whole PC debacle as im sure some people will have that imprinted in the back of their mind. AC2 might get it but we will have to wait to see it when it comes out. I have to say batman was my favorite superhero game of all time but yet it still left a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe it was the fact that the boss fights were an utter joke that my sister could have done with little trouble.

I'm going to go with Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Arkham Asylum, and Prototype, they would be my nominees for GOTY. Actually, what I think there should be, is a sequel GOTY, and an original games GOTY. So the hyped up and anticipated games can duke it out, while giving original games a shot at greatness.

Assassins Creed 2 for Sequel and Dragon Age: Origins for new original game :D

Can't argue with those choices

Gotta go with Arkham Asylum. I had so many high hopes for it and it delivered in (almost) every way.

That said, there's a few games I just haven't had time to play yet, seeing how university apparently owns my ass... Halo: ODST, Prototype and Uncharted 2 are still big black "?"s in my head.
I've been a busy little bee this week, so I am going to reward myself for being a diligent drone tomorrow by renting Prototype over the weekend. ^^

Also, I'm still waiting on Assassin's Creed 2, which I have high hopes for.

-EDIT- I forgot: Honorable mentions go out to Borderlands (for well-implemented cell-shading and an awesome random gun generator) and Brütal Legend (for both praising and parodying my favorite genre of music and for the kickass world design, even if it was just a sandbox).

From those I have played and beaten... Brutal Legend.
I haven't gotten the chance to play Batman, Borderlands or Dragon Age though... damned money.

I believe that Uncharted 2 has a good shot at winning Game of the Year. For me, the game was just non-stop awesome, not a single boring moment.

Assassins Creed 2 (got it pre-ordered) looks pretty good so far and might win it.

Dragon Age: Origins might win it, I haven't actually played it yet, I'm just going from what the people on The Escapist have been saying about it.

Modern Warfare 2 will probably end up winning though. The single player will probably be good, the multiplayer will be identical to the first, but with new perks. I don't plan on buying the game for a while, maybe that will change once I play it at my cousins house next week, but as for now, I'm not excited for the game at all.

I just plain refuse to pay £100 for another game and peripheral. Gonna wait till it comes down. Have played it though and it's very fun.

Completely forgot inFamous in my original thread. Won't win GoTY but deserves a mention i feel for having such a great look and story

Probably Uncharted 2 or Borderlands. The first for being amazing, and the second for being impossible to stop playing.

I would say Uncharted 2 or Modern Warfare 2.

It only makes sense to split this by platform:

PC: ARMA II
PS3: WipEout HD Fury
Wii: Sin and Punishment 2 (available in Japan)
360: Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony
DS: Scribblenauts
PSP: Half-Minute Hero
iPhone: Doodle Jump

Uncharted 2

there's a few great ones to come but at the end i feel Uncharted 2 will be on top this year. I almost want to say its a near-perfect game, at least the closest one i've played where you can hardly find any real flaws.

AC2 and MW2 will be up there as well, i'm sure. L4D2 will be spectacular fun too but my money and pick is def for Uncharted2. even if you're anti-ps3 you should get the sonsole just for this one

well i dont have a 360 or wii, but i'm sure Left 4 Dead 2 would be my fav if i had xbox. no idea about wii or PC game of year, since the only PC game i bought this year was Sims 3. As for DS, i only got mario kart but i think that came out a while ago.
I did want to play half-minute hero for PSP, i still havent uploaded the demo though. Dissidia is Great but i don't think its a game of the year.
no iphone

i think your PS3 choice is what baffled me really... wipeout?

i also can't see the gta4 spin-off being that good, let alone game of the year.

Arkham Asylum was really a great game that delivered on everything I hoped it would be. I expect it to get at least a mention. Uncharted 2 looks phenomenal, but since I don't have a PS3 I can't really endorse it. Borderlands, as I've seen mentioned several times, doesn't really seem like a contender to me, especially if originality is a factor. In my opinion it's a lot like a rehashed Hellgate:London.

If previous years are any indication it will probably go to Modern Warfare 2.

MW2 will sweep the board with most companies who make a game of the year, but the majority of aforementioned games with find their way into at least one game of the year...

My GotY goes to Cryostasis, though I know it won't win it.

Sorry Uncharted, but exclusives never get GOTY.

Super Mario Galaxy is an exclusive and it won Game of the Year by both IGN and Gametrailers.

i would say mw2 will most likely win nearly everything but it would have to be assasins creed 2. the first was good and the second looks a hell of a lot better

This list, it baffles my mind how incredibly idiotic this list is.

PC: Dragon Age: Origins
PS3: Uncharted 2
Wii: (Kinda hard to tell but if i had to pick, i would go with MadWorld.)
360: Modern Warfare 2 OR Borderlands
DS: Dont own a DS.
PSP: GTA: Chinatown Wars

I know my list isnt probably any better, but it makes a lot more sense that that one.

I'd like to see Batman:AA or Uncharted 2 take the cake , i'd imagine CoD:MW2 would do well as if it was the games destiny. As for my own personal pick,it would be to see Killzone 2 do well.

Right now, Flower and Demon's Souls are neck-and-neck.
Still, November is a big month for games so I'll wait to pass judgment until it's over (and I've played more Demon's Souls)

Borderlands, probably. But who knows? I'm thinking of getting MW2 and AC2.

Dragon Age: Origins wins the RPG category by far.

Fine. Exclusives rarely ever get it, and Ps3 exclusives will never get it, and I will eat my foot if they do.

I vote Arkham Asylum

ZombieGenesis:
Arkham Asylum.
But since it can't be made into a GOTY edition like say, Borderlands could, it probably won't be chosen because there's no profit to be had.

Of course it could, they could add a mini story and more challenge maps.
