It's a Post-Apocalyptic RPG, if you want sex and violence, go play GTA4.

Eh, it was still there, just in lower quantities. Some of the references also weren't so much funny as odd. Like the Lovecraftian pillar in the basement of that one building. The first two had some great parts, but not a whole lot made me laugh.

You're just not looking hard enough. There's a lot of subtle humor.

The sarcastic responses to moira brown where more often than not fucking hilarious. Plus from time to time you can say shit like "I tend to bludgeon first, ask questions never." I never played the first two fallouts. saw screens and I was like "Meh, looks like diablo." and I would rather deep fry my dick than play diablo.

No, I base my opinion on "top down, mouse controls," which I gathered from the screens

I found the humor to be lessened, but still there, serving more as comedic relief for an otherwise incredibly depressing game.

I really wanted Fallout 3 to look like this:

Plus, IMO Fallout 3 is better because it doesn't take 30 minutes to kill the first two enemies in the game (Fallout 2, giant ants)

Actually I do, you're right, the perks were still amusing. I just cant think of any really funny parts of the game that were not created by the player.

Some of the pop-culture references crack me up, Nuka-Cola factory terminals are riddled with this (so is Nuka-Cola in general I suppose). The FO3 style was a more subtle humor that was easily missed if you get what I'm saying, but was none the less hilarious when it wanted to be while leaving the game with a rather serious tone. Bethesda do this quite a bit in TES series some examples include the troll under the bridge by the nibinay basin (you would have to find it yourself as it has a funny note which I won't wreck for you), and in Morrowind the BanHammer near a tribe and the classic corpse of Peke-Uchoo (with note as well this time to confirm the Pokemon reference).

I aggree with this one.
Although about that troll...
The saddest thing I've ever seen in a video game.
Neaarly made ME cry. A gamer.

Well the 3rd was made by a diffrent company. Obviously they would take it in a diffrent direction.

'I was shootin' my rifle when you were just an itch in your daddy's pants'
Evan King from Arefu.

'Go Underword! Go Ghouls! Yeah!... damn this pansy zombie programming'
Cerberus

'I could shoot the dick off a fly from 50 yards'
Sydney (oh lovely Sydney)

'Lotta people leaving Vault 101 lately, what happened in there, somebody fart?'
The ever-annoying Three Dog

If you still don't think it's funny, go into sneak mode next to a Brahmin and press the action button.

If that doesn't make you laugh you are dead inside.

The map did feel too empty. That was one of my main gripes. It's different when you have a point-and-fast travel style like the first two games, but when you go across the wastes by foot they can be shockingly barren. Given the change in style they could easily have included a few more cities, and a few larger towns. Locations were admittedly rather frequent but they were all so small and pointless.

I didn't find that.

I relished every chance to just wander around soaking up the gorgeous atmosphere.

The only time it got boring for me was to the north, in all those barren rocky hills.

There is a lot of subtle humor, there's more dialogue humor (I am very entertained by the dialogue option: "I'm going to kill you... SO MUCH!") and there's random things in the environment such as garden gnomes with deatchclaw hands and organs (Yes you can find that; I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in Broken Steel)

There were tonnes of those crazy gnomes, they were great.

My personal fave was the one who had tied two teddy bears to the traintracks and was taking pictures of it with a little camera.

That one is in the Presidential Metro, also from Broken Steel.

Edit:
Sorry for triple post. Thought someone else would have posted something by now...

Maybe Bethesda intended for Fallout 3 to be more serious?

Fallout 3 has some serious identity crisis issues in that regard. The game tries to be a gritty post-apocalyptic sim, but at the same time it features an awful lot of knocking off a supermutant's entire head cleanly at the neck with a shot from a 10mm handgun, his body performing a full backflip in a gratuitous show of ragdoll physics.

That was the point.

The devs stated they wanted the violence to be funny and cartoony, as the atmosphere of the world was already grim enough.

Fallout 2's humor stooped to the level of Monty Python references at times.

Which made it fucking awesome.

getting sodomized by a super mutant for loosing an arm wrestling match

Oh crap, I remember this one. I actually lost it. Entire Broken Hills was laughing at me.
OT:
I agree with some people above, that F3 had a different kind of humour, and in my oppinion it was still very good. If I remember correctly F1 had relatively little of humour - it's the second part that implemented tonnes of it.

You are aware, that those games differ so hard that your post is either screaming with ignorance, or just plain trolling.

Fallout 1 & 2 are hilarious and the only line in Fallout 3 I felt had the same humour as the originals were:

"If I am very silent I can here my genes cry"

EDIT: Played a session of Fallout 2 yesterday and I found more funny stuff in those 2 hours than in the whole 100+ I've played in Fallout 3.

Example: Found "Mike the Masticator" in a basement of New Reno. "Ears yum"

Found a bridge where the chosen one says: "I think I should save this in a brand new spot..."

And exploring Vault city wondering about the abscence of children: "Oh, I just thought for a second that I had got the European version of Fallout 2"

I found it hilarious at times. I personally think you are just being nostalgic or you don't like fallout 3 for most of the reasons why people don't like halo 3, because its more popular than the previous installments and that just makes you another one in a crowd of millions

I still love Fallout 3. I'm just saying it doesn't have the same humor.

funny moments from F1 and F2

The angry spore plant near the mine... he would always curse and yell at people..LMAO
The velvet pictures of Elvis...
The midget at the boxing arena
Cafe of broken Dreams
Random encounter entering one city and you run over a Goul with your car
Sleeping with the wife and daughter of a Mob Boss
throwing rocks at kids
getting sodomized by a super mutant for loosing an arm wrestling match

Nostalgia for the win. See? This is the kind of humor that was missign from the third. Not that I didn't love the third game.

That last part made me feel dirty. And I woke up witha ball-gag in my mouth. And determined to win. Buffout helps.
