As for MW2 - I don't care about it mainly because I've watched a friend of mine play it and felt compelled but also repulsed. On one hand I can understand how good a game it is in terms of the realistic but fun shooting etc. and so I'm quite tempted, but on the other I have nothing but loathing for the kind of amateur dick who has to compensate for something missing in his life by knowing about loads of guns and modern warfare. |

You mean 'loathing for the kind of amateur dick who has to compensate for something missing in his life by knowing about loads of guns and modern warfare... 2.' |
Copy Clerk Posts: 60 Joined: 14 Jan 2009 | I agree that I could care less about MW2. I am not a fan of multiplayer shooters and it seems the single player portion of MW2 is all of about 6 hours. I'm the biggest batman fan you'll meet and very much enjoy AA but I dunno if it should be game of the year just because all past batman games sucked... don't get me wrong, I loved AA and think it should be a contender. but I havent played Uncharted 2 or Dragon age yet or even the dark horse contender of New Super Mario Bros, so I can't give an informed choice. |
Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 13 Feb 2009 | To be honest I could care less about Modern Warfare 2, it just seems to be the same plot to the last one E.G Kill terrorists and save the world. So yeah I would be a sad monkey if it was picked for GOTY |
Beat Writer Posts: 138 Joined: 22 Sep 2009 | I would lose a good deal of faith in the reviewing industry if MW2 got Game of the Year. Polished games are great and all, but I'll take something new any day (glances lovingly at Arkham Asylum). I'd also like to throw in my nominee for GOTY 2010: Mass Effect 2 |
Copy Clerk Posts: 75 Joined: 22 Dec 2008 | Ya that would be upsetting but there's so many different GOTY awards that someone's bound to not give it to them. Probably. |

Yep, I don't get any of them though, which might be why. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 495 Joined: 28 Mar 2009 | I believe that AC2 has the potential to be Game of the Year, based on what I've seen so far. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 88 Joined: 20 Mar 2009 | I liked CoD4 mostly cause it was so realistic, and so fucking difficult. It takes an unbelieveable amount of time and effort to get good at that game. But I really couldn't care about any of the CoD games to be honest. If it gets game of the year, good for them, but personally that award doesn't register for me this year. I haven't bought a new game all year, because they're not at all appealing. ... DJ Hero maybe, but at a massive stretch, it's not really a new game after all it's just Guitar Hero with vastly differant tracks and a wheel. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 17 Mar 2009 | Interesting contradiction. Either, you couldn't care less about MW2, or you would be upset if it was GOTY. Upset is quite an extreme reaction to a videogame winning an award, and means you care enough to be upset, so you could care quite a lot less. If it does win GOTY, I will at least be amused. "I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Arkham Asylum was the best batman game OF ALL TIME!" Well, that's my snark quota for the day met. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 438 Joined: 26 Jan 2009 | theres so many other games that could be goty. im lookin forward to l4d2 but people say its much of the same game as the first one. dragon age i think has potential to be game of the gear as well but thats my personal oppinion. |
Muckraker Posts: 307 Joined: 18 Apr 2009 | The game of the decade talks ive been hearing would annoy me more, for all the incredible innovations and amazing games to be over shadowed by a quite average game would piss me off no end. |
Paperboy Posts: 46 Joined: 3 Jun 2009 | Can't really see why there is so much fuss about that game. I played the demo for the first MW and my emotions were summarised with the phrase EHHHHHH. Then when the fuss around the mw2 got really big about a month ago I played the full game still EHHHHHHHHH, no angel choirs no touch of Christ. Above avarage but short and well pale, except the nuke thing, but that don't justify the whole hymn of praise thing. So MW2 left me emotionless. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 750 Joined: 14 Apr 2009 | i too agree that arkham asylum should be game of the year. but i don't really care enough to be upset if modern warfare gets it. it's just a silly title. |

Is it just me or does that game seem like a gameplay stitch-together? It seems like it will try to do too many things at the same time. You get henchmen, hookers, guns, you name it. Will there even be time for the runny-jumpy-stealth that was one of the great things about the original? Anyways enough worrying. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the game-reviewing websites would at the very least nominate COD4-2 (or whatever number that game is officially having) as GOTY. With a metascore of 95 and gamesite reviewers coming off as drooling dogs, when talking about that game.. I have yet to play it myself but is a 4-6 hour singleplayer really long enough for such praise, when all it did was adding to an existing formula? And were they given complementary heroin injections when playing the multiplayer? |

I will admit its not THAT big a deal, but to dismiss our beloved industries highest accolade as a silly title is tough to do. We have all had problems with accolades being given to games we don't feel that has deserved it, but MW2, like l4d2 which I'm psyched about, brings nothing new to the table. Not to get too off topic but L4D2 seems like an AWESOME expansion pack disguised as a full retail release. I am in love with L4d because it is a FRESH, NEW TAKE on the online fps genre. I played the demo for l4d2, and had a ton of fun but the facts are thus: AC2 does look pretty awesome. I have high hopes for it. I am 8ish hours into Dragon Age now. I am loving it, but I dunno about GOTY. Maybe I need to spend another 30 with it. I do love the fact that my $60 (I got it for 360 which was prolly dumb but whatever) is going towards more than 8 hours of gameplay and that is certainly something like DAO has going for it. Call me crazy but I am in love with Tropico 3 right now (pc version of course). What a GREAT strategy game, and that you don't see much anymore. Its got some balance issues but the game looks GORGEOUS and has replay value up the wazu. It has no chance of GOTY, but I think it deserves to be recognized. There are too many great, original, fresh games out there this year (heck the last couple months) to choose another US kills terrorists online shooter that is pretty much an updated version of counterstrike (I know that is really dumbing down what it is, and that comment is not intended to incite flame. It is what it is). |

Yea, but it doesn't make me happy ;) I suppose I always say don't get upset about things you can't control but as long as games like MW2 get all the praise then thats what will get the biggest budgets and the biggest marketing pushes. I suppose that isn't QUITE fair cause look at the marketing push AC2 is getting. I know its a sequel, but its still a VERY young IP. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 8 Joined: 2 Jul 2009 | couldn't give a toss either way to be honest. I don't need a GotY sticker on a game for me to be compelled to buy it. When considering a new game the only things I look at are serious flaws- for instance, MW2's lack of a console, dedicated server, or anything good for internet play. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2244 Joined: 24 Nov 2008 | I don't care about MW2 or about anyone's GOTY. GOTY is an award that is given out like candy by every gaming website, magazine, show, and toilet paper with writing. Why should I care what a group of other poeple voted for, don't I decide what games was the best this year? Unless you need to have someone say how good a game you like is so you can feel more secure that your opinion isn't the crap it actually is, I don't know why people are so interested in these awards. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 897 Joined: 28 Aug 2009 | I couldn't give two shits about the entire CoD series and I fail to see what it is that everyone likes about them. As for GOTY, if MW 2 wins GOTY that says more about the award givers than the game itself :). |
Paperboy Posts: 39 Joined: 31 Oct 2009 | Looking at the reception the games got already, It's pretty obvious it's going to be game of the year. I don't mind though, If most people love it then it deserves the award. Although I personally would like to see something a bit more original winning. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1886 Joined: 9 Aug 2009 | Of course CoD will win because CoD is CoD. That's the way the cookie crumbles. |

Serenegoose has kindaly voiced my opinion on the title.
I actually couldnt care less about it either, only reason I came on this topic was to say what my contemperary above has said, but if a console shooter was to win GOTY, id say it would have to be Killzone 2 which is probably a runner for my favourite 1st person shooter. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 366 Joined: 18 Apr 2009 | Too early to pick a Goty yet, but right now my vote would go to Uncharted 2. Thought Arkham Asylum wasn't that great, the melee combat was boring, the dialogue absolutely terrible, the story was just an excuse to have 5 billion villains parading on screen, and it was full of secrets and crap like that that I personally can never be arsed with in games. The only fun part was the rooms with the armed guards that you neutralized by jumping down from gargoyles and stuff, that was quite stylish, but the rest of the game was meh. |
SUSPENDED Posts: 3190 Joined: 16 May 2009 | I'd be pissed, but just about as pissed as I was when GTAIV got basically every award possible last year. And, no you're not the only one. I don't really give a shit about MW2. I liked the first one, but I'm kinda over 1st person shooters, at least for a while. So far, Batman AA gets my GOTY, but I haven't played Demon Souls or Borderlands yet so I'll just have to wait and see... User was suspended for: Who is this God character anyway?. (3 days) |
Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 5 Mar 2009 | I couldn't give a shit about the majority or GoTY titles... or even GoTY itself. Although, it depends which GoTY award giver you're talking about... the only one I ever agreed with was IGN giving it to Fallout 3 last year. |

i didn't find it tough. i don't see a game being voted game of the year as that big a deal for anyone apart from the people that made it. i understand why they'd want to get it, but to me it's just a title, it changes nothing in the grand scheme of things. if you love a game so much, then it can be your game of the year. the title "game of the year" comes down to opinion not fact, which is why i think it's pretty irrelevant. all i was saying is that arkham asylum is the best game of the year in my opinion. but if it doesn't get awarded that it makes no difference to me. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2485 Joined: 13 Dec 2008 | Well, MW2 is a great game. It would deserve it, despite all the PC moaners (who are moaning rightfully) and overpricing, it's still a superb game. I'd vote for it. Mind you, if a game is GotY or not doesn't really matter to me. |

Okay I understand that there are LEGIONS of console shooter fans, but there are so many games that really brought something new to the table. How about Batman Arkham Asylum the first PLAYABLE BATMAN GAME EVER! I mean seriously, has there ever been a Batman game even worth spending an hour on, forget being 8 of the greatest gaming hours of my life? Ugh, I am just sick of hearing about how awesome another military online console shooter is.... Anyone else?
