Because then no one would buy the companies controllers, and that's less money for them. Unless of course they rub 2 brains cells together and make a "Mouse and keyboard adapter" for the console. One reasons perhaps.
You can use keyboards on a console if they connect to a USB port.
My question is always why anyone bothers using a console in the first place. Its just a retarded computer. Of course, "build a system so simple that even a fool can use, and only a fool will use it."
I have a simple adaptor so I can even use a mouse and keyboard on the good ol ps2. Adaptors are easy enough to find.
Because using a computer is rocket science?
because those controls are too complicated for the console tards
Oh your god, you are a rocket scientist. <gasps> and so am i!
Because if consoles are designed to be played their way why should keyboard and mouse be compatible with them? And why the hell would anyone wanna use that for games on consoles anyway?
Ahhh and so the PC trolls have already entered.
I am a console tard but this is only because my graphics card sucks hard balls otherwise I would be pc but some of the console only games are incredibly fun and you cannot denie that
I don't know that its trolling, per se. Most of the major releases have been polyplatform over the past several years. In many cases, the computer versions perform better. And since you can plug console or console style controllers into a computer, even the actual input differences evaporate.
Uh, Dreamcast had a keyboard and mouse. Oh, wait, I'm one of the like 10 people on this site that actually bought a Dreamcast.
I prefer PC gaming, consoles are handy in the fact I can play them on my plasma, and I 'know' that every game I buy for that console will work. No fucking around with drivers, or worrying about updating my PC every few months because better and better hardware becomes available. I know you can use a mouse/keyboard for PS3, but from what I'm told it doesn't work very well in games (if at all) since it still follows the controller axis? It's just a personal choice, but if I could swap between a controller and mouse/kboard for different games (i.e controller for fighting games, racing, role playing, and keyboard/mouse for fps), I'd be stoked. Obviously it wouldn't work for everyone, some people just like chilling on the couch with their controller, and I like it too, but it would be cool to be able to swap back and forth.
Sort of. Look at the specs of a 360, try building a machine like it with off the shelf parts. It wouldn't perform even close to how a 360 performs. The hardware is designed with only a few tasks in mind. Which is why it can do more with less so to speak. Which is also why the PS2 lasted 8 years. Try keeping a computer around 8 years.
Perhaps because you can play games on an Xbox for Aus$300, or you can play the same games on a computer for Aus$2000+, assuming you want to play at the same quality. And the usual excuse of "any idiot can build there own PC for half that price" is bullshit. If everyone in the world who needed a computer could build it themselves, computer suppliers would be bankrupt. The fact of the matter is, it's a whole lot simpler to buy a console. This is coming from someone who owns 2 consoles, and a gaming PC. And FYI, I prefer the PC. Also, I think I just got trolled. :P OT: I suppose the general attitude is that If you want to use a mouse/keyboard combo, you have to shell out for a computer.
OOH OOH I HAD ONE!!!1 | |
Yeah, I'd probably get a console if I could use Keyboard + Mouse for FPS games. I'm constantly having issues with my PC.
Microsoft actaully have a policy on this - something about keeping entertainment separate to work or something stupid - It's basically to protect windows and PCs, so that the Xbox doesn't become a cheap -all in one. Sony have a keyboard tho correct?
Exactly, my PC is about two years old, and while it still plays new games, Dragon Age, MW2, after long gaming session it starts to chug quite a bit. I don't think it has much life left in it and I don't relish the thought/cost of building a new one.
You can. I tried a mouse and keyboard a long way back on the PS2. The game was red faction. There is some type of aiming help for the controller that didn't work well with the mouse. It made the mouse as imprecise as a controller! Controllers are fine for moving, running and jumping, but suck for precise aiming. If some company would make their fps support mouse and keyboard, I could quit gaming on my pc!
they tried, it failed...hard. they will never bother with that anymore, the market has spoken with its wallets.
There needs to be lest hostility between the races. I mean the clans who own various consoles, or prefer PCs. I still hold, however, that computers are the best option, as they are the catch-all-- you can surf the web, game, and do your homework on one machine, rather than buying separate machines. I think the one thing that really bothers me more than anything is the PS3 owners that think they are technowizards for owning one. If owning a PS3 makes you a technowizard, owning a cutting board makes me emeril lagasse
It works both ways. Some PC tards can't hack the console controllers either.
You can use a M/K-setup for, at least, the Ps3. It is just that most companies are too lazy to implement it...
Yeah, that is pretty annoying. Besides, the Ps3 is worth fuck-all as a multimedia device...
Wouldn't this make FPS games strongly unbalanced? A mouse is a much more precise tool for aiming than a controller and because the majority of players would be using the controller they got with the console, the mouse users would find themselves simply slaughtering everyone. By the way, whats up with all the console hate on these forums? As a person who uses a good gaming PC, PS3 and an Xbox360 I don't see what the problem is.
OP: cuz sometimes holding a controller is just a more comfortable and nostalgic way to game.
Well assuming PC gamers USE A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE I doubt any of them would want to use a console controller. Besides I thinkt he the real reason why k/m can't be used on consoles is because your PC instantly downloads a driver in order to recognize the controller you use, but consoles obviously can't do that, and if they are not BUILT to recognize k/m UBS ports then they can't utilize them. They are basically embedded processors when you think about it.
No the real reason keyboards/mouse aren't used with consoles is because your console is sitting on a floor in the living room and the players are sitting on the floor or on a couch. There's no desk, no surface on which to put a mouse, no way to hold your keyboard without it slipping. Basically it would be dumb.
Yeah but did you have a 3DO ? Or an Atari Jaguar OR Lynx ?
I think this all really adds up for convenience for both consoles and PC's. if you were able to use a console as a computer than who would buy computers they would end up disappearing for the latest consoles. Sure it you be easier without all of the driver issue, but i find satisfaction when my scrap made computer gets a game working at the rate of a new one
I do! The jaguar recently stopped working. I turned it on after years of sitting there and looking Jaguarish. It failed me. Failed me hard. As far as Keyboard and mouse go. I use the controller often enough on my computer. Sometimes it is nice not to have to try and grope around across the keyboard to try and hit the right key. With the controller they are all at my fingertips. The keyboard is after all designed to be used with two hands. Still it works better for some games. Not nearly as much as people like to give it credit for. After all there is one thing it will never have: Analog buttons.
I disagree, I have a couch and a desk within view of my television, I could use both with ease. Depending on the game, I could chill on the couch and play, or I could use my desk, or any other flat surface really to use a wireless mouse/keyboard. I'd definately use a controller still though for some games.
i still have a dreamcast, it's still in my closet. But anyways uhm #1 it's because they would lose alot of money on controllers and #2 mouses are alot easier to use than sticks imo, so users of a mouse/board would have an advantage. and yes, i've played pc games using my controller before. As for shooters, personally i think pulling a trigger makes me feel better than clicking a button.
Because you touch yourself at night. Happy now?

I've been wondering for a while why more game developers aren't letting us use a mouse/keyboard combination in games? I mean, it would give people the option to have either a controller, or the mouse/keyboard.
If I could use my PS3 as a computer, and still be able to play games the way I like to, I wouldn't even bother owning a PC anymore..
