im have to decided to become a game reviewer for playstation one games
so i was wondering
where do i start with games to review for the playstation???

i was thinkong of starting with a final fantasy but then that would just make me seem like a fanboy

Silent Hill, Resident Evil?

You've picked a great time to start, the playstation is indeed a bustling console.

Koudelka, Silent Hill 1, Resident Evil 1-3, Metal Gear Solid 1, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, and Parasite Eve 1 and 2.

It doesn't matter what the actual game is, because they were all released 10-15 years ago. Pick whatever's in the console right now.

Edit: Actually, ignore that. Pick something REALLY obscure. If you just write another review about Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy or Resident Evil, you won't have anything interesting to say about them.

Final Fantasy 7, Breath of Fire III, Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy Tactics, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, those only ones I can name off the top of my head.

EDIT: Suikoden 1 and 2. By far the best two games of the series.

Crash Bandicoots are the only games I remember playing, I never owned one.

Bushido Blade

It's a very interesting fighting game that isn't based on health bars. you basically try to deal a good enough deathblow. You can also attack a specific bodypart until they lose function in it (arms, legs, etc)

Quake 2. Much better on PC, but it's still fun on PS1.

It's good to start with one well-known, fanboy spawning game so that people might actually find it while doing a search for the game. And if you're doing PS1 reviews, make sure not to miss the Spyro games, as they are entirely awesome, or the Medievil games, as they are slightly obscure, but still awesome.

Anyways, start with some well-known games, get a trademark thing going that sets you apart from the other legions of reviewers, and then you can move on to some more interesting, obscure titles.

As to the PS1.. uhhh... Castlevania.

Start with the classics, games that will make people say
"Oh shit, I remember that game!"
then they'll feel compelled to read what you wrote, if only to see if they agree with you. If they do then they'll find themselves reading more of your work, then feel free to slip in a more well known titles as you go along.
Don't just crack out the PS1 juggernauts then run out of steam after a short span.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped.

Every brilliant ps1 game that I can think of:
Silent bomber
Silent hill
Metal Gear Solid 1.
FF7.

And now some lesser known titles.

WILD9< - amazing game.
Gungage
Space Invaders <- seriously. It was pretty epic on ps1.

A good idea would be just to go down to your local games retailer and just buy some ps1 games. They're always really cheap, and it doesn't matter if you enjoy the game. The point of a review is to do exactly that. Review it. Let others know if they might like it, or not.

You need knowledge and a good amount of experience to be a reviewer, especially since you're interested in older games. They can't be held to the same standards of today. Furthermore, to be a good reviewer you need to be a good communicator and writer, which you haven't proved.

Play some PS1 games, gain some punctuation skills and get to know your shift or caps lock button and return to us for some advice.

Legay of Kain Soul Reaver. Shenmue um Crash has been mentioned already um let me check my collection....Twisted Metal 1 and 2. I recommend playing these games in depth before reviewing them to make sure people who don't bother with older systems know what your talking about.

I had fun with Legend of Legaia, Final Fantasy Tactics, Grandia, Threads of Fate, Parappa the Rapper, Star Ocean: the Second Story, Chrono Cross, Valkyrie Profile, and Vagrant Story.

I'm not being a troll, I'm being realistic. At least play some PS1 games and do some research. Dreams are nice, but if you want to make something of it you need to put in the hard work. The fact that you had to ask advice from a discussion board tells me you're not taking this seriously.

/thread. As much as everyone loves wanking over LoZ:OoT (justified wanking though it may be, being the awsome game it is) the first MGS has aged far more gracefully. Easily my favorite game on my PS3.

I'd also recommend harvest moon:return to nature, as that shit is more addictive than wow.

Silent Hill, Spyro 1-3, Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Tekken 3, and Croc: Legend of the Gobos. I also liked Digimon World 3, but have yet to finish it... it can be pretty damn hard.
