Still ain't fun

So I recently purchased a new copy off FFVII as mine has not worked in some time. I just got through the Wall Market, that humorous stretch of gaming that has inspired so much homoerotic fanfiction. Up until this point, I have been having tons of fun. Then I got to the Train Graveyard. I still hate it, despite having beaten this game twice before.

Anyone else have any gaming irks whose edge time hath not dulled?

The water temple in Ocarina of time

Time has not made Jak X any less frustrating.

nor has it erased my fear of Cliff Racers

I still hate the vast majority of the character cast in Final Fantasy IX.

I will forever and always hate Kefka for just being an all-around dick.

As soon as I read that I remembered why I was on the verge of suicide as a teenager.

No matter how much I love the Final Fantasy series, I still hate having to spend ages levelling up in various wildrenesses. Still, it's either that, or get to Zanarkand/Giruvegan/wherever and end up fucked by the big beasties that come ou to play... :(

Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. I can't describe it, but I just hate both of those games so much. I at one point even owned the first one. I even forced myself about halfway through the story mode.

I don't get why people are so down on the water temple. It was the only part of the game where the puzzles became interesting and was the only good argument in the game for not being top down like the best games in the series. The shadow temple was really where things got bad. But then again, I see the N64 Zeldas as the non-cdi low point of the series, so perhaps people are just stupid.

I hate water levels, no mater which game features them, I hate it. In fact, I hate water levels even when you're on a boat.

The part in Gears of War 2, when you're on a tiny boat on an underground lake? Hate it.

The boat chase in Modern Warfare 2? Hate it (and the boat handles like a drunken donkey).

Every water level in every Mario game? Hate it.

All of the Water Temples in the Legend of Zelda Series? Hate them (they're always the most confusing to navigate).

Seriously, why do developers keep making these levels? They're never fun. At best they're restrictive and annoying, and at worst, they're frustrating, and rage inducing.

Certain multiplayer maps on a variety of games will be the doom of me yet. Afghan, anyone?

... you reminded me in Link to the Past and those falling rocks when trying to get up a ladder.

Grrr... Easily teh best game in the series though.

Mass Effect. Pretty much anything not involving naked blue chicks or the final boss fight, It's like walking through mud that's constantly trying to suck your boots off your feet.

ANY time I see a timer.

On anything.

Fuck timers.

Excuse my language: FUCKING WATER TEMPLE!
Okay, I'm good.

Anyway, that, and the Water Temple's succesor, the Majora's Mask Water Temple, which was a confusing maze.

eh, I like this one now, because now i love the Shadow Link fight. But yes, it's the worst temple.

These are both statements of universal fact. I still havent beaten Jak X. FUCK those physics.
I have considered modding Morrowind to remove all cliff racers. And of course, the mod shall be called St. Jiub's Triumph

It always pissed me off, because I will ALWAYS forget one valve. ALWAYS. And it's never the same one, either.

Ugh, in Donkey Kong 64, those stupid-ass bonus games...like where you have to run around dark mazes and stupid meaningless crap like that? They piss me off.

Wailing Caverns in WoW, not sure just what it is that makes me hate that place, I think it's just the way it's laid out.

Playing Mass Effect again has only caused me to be further enraged by it's terrible design choices. Only this time my hate for the side quests is rivaled by my hate for the AI's complete stupidity. You'd think Garrus would know when to get behind cover instead of standing out in the open and drawing all enemy fire towards him like a magnet.

Though I suppose I should give a more specific example. In Pikmin 2 the Submerged Castle was a nightmare to complete on my first try, and time has not made it any less aggravating. Based on people's other complaints in this thread, it seems that Nintendo goes out of their way to make their water levels as frustrating as possible.

Damn water wraith.

The opening parts of either side in Star Ocean 2. Until you make it to Cross and have Celine join you it just feels like a monotonous grind.

Lawl, St. Jiub. Isn't Jiub that guy in the beginning with you on the ship? Yeah I hate the cliff racers too.

Any section in any game that requires me to escort someone to another place. The Water Temple in OOT, the majority of Resident Evil 4, and ALL of Ico just piss me off.

zehydra:

Yeah, he is. If you listen closely in Oblivion, you can hear NPCs talking about how "St. Jiub" has driven all the cliff racers from morrowind (a Vvardenfellian version of St. Patrick and his snakes)

What's so bad about Afgha- *vomits on keyboard*
Oh yeah...
Also, any multiplayer that gets away with poor balance and level design simply be restricting bits of it until you've played it enough. *looks at MW2*
(stupid level system)

I thought of another thing: The Roxas hours of Kingdom Hearts 2
I like roxas... but i hate his section of the game.

Fraction Adventures improved on it a little though, so that's cool

I still despise random encounters. When you don't want to run into any monsters, you encounter one at least every other step. And when you're trying to level up, you spend ages running around the map looking for one single damned monster.

Also, all cliff racers must die. Those things are damn frustrating when you prefer melee weapons.

I once beat that temple WITHOUT the Zora tunic.

OT: Getting all the jiggies in BK or BT is still a pain to me today.

But hey, I enjoy every minute of it.

As much as I love FFIV, I HATE the Sealed Cavern. Fucking doors....

I experience the same thing with the Submerged Castle, Dream Den, Hole of Heroes, and the Cavern of Chaos in Pikmin 2.

Banjo Tooie I agree, but I never had any trouble getting all 100 in Banjo-Kazooie. Now all the NOTES... that was a bitch. And there was no reward for it. Grr

I always thought it was funny, even though the jiggies are the big collectible on the box, if you think about it, the NOTES are the goal. Banjo needs JIGGIES to collect NOTES that open the doors in Grunty's Lair. Oh dear off topic in my own thread!

*twitch* This. THIS. THIIIIS. ARRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Or Balverines. I. HATE. BALVERINES.

I hate the part where you have to be on a motorcycle in Metal Gear Solid 4. God, buy a frickin helicopter Eva.

I hate Killzone 2, I got 3/4ths of the way through it, trying desperately to like it considering the hype that was around it and I hated every moment of it. It just wasn't fun and I love A LOT of shooters, I think I've played well over a hundred and beat 90% of them and this game just wasn't fun at all.

Two Fort Sniper wars of fucking attrition on TF2

oh, dude, yes!

Of course, in a chopper you'd have been killed instantly, but still
Fuckin old lady on motorbikes. Gah. She hasn't been stabbed in the gut enough.
Also, the Cooked Snake sequence

The Tower of Babel in Xenogears has TONS OF annoying jumping stuff in an RPG that is mostly based on story telling and pretty traditional JRPG game mechanics... It is freaking annoying when games have some frustrating annoying area that has nothing to do with what most of the game is about...

I hated driving the Mako on the boring repetitive side planets in Mass Effect but at least those were optional but still annoying.

There are tons of others in video games but those two stand out the most in my head right now.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Also, Mt. Gagazet in FFX is a downright pain to play through. Encounters...Every...STEP! >:(
