Fallout 3 keeps freezing xbox 360

Whenever I play fallout 3 it keeps freezing up why?

Because Fallout 3 is an incredibly buggy game.

What system are you using? 360/PS3/PC ?

EDIT:

And any error message would be helpful

Is your Xbox online? Did you download the patch?

Yeah, a system would help...

I've heard that the 360 version freezes quite a bit but I've never tried it on 360. mods FTW!

Welcome to my world, the PS3 version crashed so much i was tempted to pirate the PC version just to see how mothership and lookout played through, as it was I went with the age old "save every couple of minutes and then you don't lose much" approach.

Bethesda have refused to support the title in a fantastic example of the "We've got our cash, fuck you" approach to business, so i figure I just won't buy any more Bethesda products, or at least if I must get them, then get them second hand so that they don't see any money from me.

Try installing it to HDD

What can I say besides it just does? Bethesda is good at that. Having played both PS3 and 360 versions of both Oblivion and Fallout three I can confirm that they all crash like crazy. Hell them's the only games to crash my PS3

Also, a little bit of context? Where and when does the freezing happen? We'll need maybe a bit more information other than "It's freezing, help".

Google ftw

Nick Of FIXYA.COM:

Fallout 3 freezing is an unfortunately common problem. A lot of people have reported that clearing the game cache on your 360 will fix it, so that's what I would suggest you try first.

To do this:
start up your 360, then take out the Fallout 3 game disc.
Hold down the A button on the Player 1 controller
Put Fallout 3 in your 360, then load the game
If this doesn't fix it, the next thing you could try is to clear the system cache. This will clear the entire cache for your 360, including the automatic updates (though downloaded content, save files, and user dats will be untouched).

To do this:
Navigate to System > Memory
Highlight the hard disk in the list and press Y
Press X, X, LB, RB, X, X
If done right, you should see a message asking, "perform system maintenance?" Proceed with this, and it will clear all the cache data out and revert Fallout 3 back to version 1.0 (it should ask you to update once you load the game)

Hope this helps - I've had my share of frustration with Fallout 3 glitches.

I think THAT is a little harsh. In a huge world, bugs are to be expected. Even so, Bethesda has made every effort to fix as much as they can. The latest patch is patch 1.7, that is 7 different bug fixing patches, plus the DLC they offer.

There are very few glitches that absolutely freeze the 360, I used to play it at a friends before I picked up my copy for the PC. The only way the 360 would freeze is after like, 8 solid hours of play on it. And I'm the kind of person that goes out of my way to see how far I can get into areas I shouldn't, that takes advantage of glitches that help me, etc. Check the actual disc, even if it looks clean, wipe it down with water and a soft cloth, if you have a disc doctor, run it through. I had over 150 hours on the 360 and have yet to hit a "constant freeze" issue/bug/glitch.

This happened to me and it turned out I had a corrupt save file. I had to delete it and go back to a previous save. Try that and if it still happens, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah mine freezes all the time too, also missing textures sometimes and sometimes no visuals at all

But i just save often and reset my xbox when needed

That's my point, the majority of the bugs are on the PS3 version (the one I own) on both Mothership and Lookout the game (at worst) will crash every 5 minutes or so.

Bethesda were made aware of the situation and their official answer was that they would not be supporting Fallout 3 for the PS3 or fixing any of the MANY crash bugs, hence my standpoint.

Don't get me wrong the PC version (which I got later) was very good and with an ample modding community any major bugs were fixed either by the developer or the modders.

What concerns me is that I bought that game 3 times (once PC, one original release PS3 and then the collectors edition) and then the company after getting yet another 25 for the DLC decides that it's going to stop supporting the console that I favor.

Pardon me for thinking that maybe I got screwed and that they deserve nothing further from me.

I had the same problem AFTER I downloaded some of the DLC. Before, I don't remember it ever freezing. I just started saving more often. I'm sure some of the people above have better suggestions.

Mine used to freeze occasionally but never consistently on my 360, so i just saved after something happened.

Oblivion used to crash my computer after about an hour tho so i decided it was my computers way of getting me to go outside.

Is it the collector's edition freezing or the normal one?

In that case I understand and am shocked at the company. I have no idea why the PC and 360 are so much better than the ps3 edition.

Welcome to Fallout 3.
Enjoy your brief periods of gameplay between crashes.

Mine used to freeze at the Grisly Diner if I came at it from the north. If I came at it from any other direction I was fine. I just could not walk in a southern direction to reach it. 360 vanilla version BTW

Not true at all.

Broken Steel was basically a big long fan wishlist made flesh.

There have been several updates that have fixed over 50 bugs.

Install on hard drive. Problem is solved.

For which version?

From what i gather the Xbox and PC versions are now at version 1.7 (according to an earlier post in this thread)

The PS3 version is still on 1.61 as it has been since the release of the last DLC which causes numerous crashes and has yet to be patched. From what others have seen on sites like gamefaqs, ps3crowd etc they won't be patched either.

So yeah they may still be supporting the PC and 360 but from what i gather the PS3 support disappeared as soon as the DLC was launched.

Hmmm. That sucks for PS3 owners. First Valve, now Bethesda?

Surely it can't be that much hassle to program for?
