Fallout: New Vegas - I Put a Spell on You Quest is Broken

I can't believe I need to say this, but SPOILERS AHEAD!

During the quest, when you need to defuse the monorail bomb, you defuse it and it still explodes. Is this an isolated incident or is this common?

Actually, how do you get to that point? I'm at the point where I'm supposed to wait around the Comm tower for the spy, but I've waited all hours of the night and I've gotten nothing. What am I supposed to do?

Happened to me. Went back to Hsu and only option to say was "The monorail is destroyed." Definite bug.

Yeah. From me searching, it's 100% happening.

I didn't do that quest, I'm afraid. :/

I defused it just fine on my file for the 360. What platform are you playing on?

I'm on the 360. I've found that many, many people have the same problem as me. Google the quest (I put a spell on you fallout new vegas).

He shows up at some time at night, don't wait inside it. When he's in it an extra person nearby marker will show up when you're near the tower. Go in, he becomes hostile, kill him.

First post congratulations!
I'm not too surprised, F3 was an intensely good game, but incredibly buggy

HG131:
snip

I haven't played it but I've been reading the Bethesda forums, apparently that quest is so badly bugged it's been corrupting peoples' entire save files. If it's not part of the main quest I'd hold off on it until it's patched.

I already did it and It's been a bit, but there are some residual bugs like people, including Mr. New Vegas, saying lines from both outcomes.

For mine to work I did the following.

1) got the quest, talked to Boyd about the comm tower code
2) went to the comm tower and hacked the terminal
3) told Capt Curtis about the log and the "visitor"
4) went back to the comm tower and waited till 2 AM
5) went inside and found the traitor. worked every time i reloaded to try it so should be good for that part.

Fallout: New Vegas: Walkthrough: Sidequest: I Put A Spell On You
I just beat this mission wasn't really much help on the internet so here goes. I talked to boyd and all the main people inside the building afterward i went right outside the comm tower and hid near the plane where i could stil see the front door, i got there around midnight on a monday, i just waited there for about an hour and i saw someone walk into the tower, i went in after them and they started a fight killed them, mission complete. Hope this helps you cuz i was about to just give up on the mission and this worked for me which is awesome!

P.S. Went to diffuse monorail bomb, as soon as i walk towards it it takes off and blows into a million pieces so i don't see how its even possible to diffuse it...

***UPDATE**: I just diffused it, luckily it saves when you go through the door so i reloaded my file with the monorail there when just walking up to it normally it would take off and explode, but i crouched and stayed along the fence and was able to walk up to it and get inside diffuse the bomb in the vent.

***UPDATE***LOL!!! So after diffusing the bomb, the monorail takes off and still explodes...wtf scared the shit outta me! I only tried using my science/explosion skill so who knows maybe that was it but im done messing with it.

this game is full of problems to the point that I will say that this is not a finished product. There are enough graphic and gameplay bugs in this game to make it basically unplayable unless you're lucky enough not to run into the bad ones. While I am playing it on my PC my brother is playing it on his 360 and we are both running into several problems.

1) companions just disappearing. this is not like they just go back to their homes, they r gone... for good

2) errors and crashes. this is mostly just on the 360, large areas like the airfield have produced error messages and crashes.

3) failure of missions you haven;t gotten yet. this happens occasionally, which makes sense when u are picking sides but the following is an example that something should have been done to prevent. (WARNING SPOILERS)* On my way to new vegas I run into Vault 11, I go in to investigate like i would any other cave or town. I ransack the whole place and make it to the end of vault, after triggering the last event of the vault a prompt comes up and says I have failed blah blah house blah quest. I think WTF but whatever keep playing. what i had done turned the robots in mr. houses casino against me, I can not continue that quest, one of the main story lines ruined

there r several random occurrences such as items/bodies being unlootable or falling through the ground, items disappearing out of inventorys, and other annoying things.

personally. I am just going to put the game down, wait for the updates, and hope they fix some of the many problems with this game

I just "completed" the remove the bomb part, stepped out, the monorail drove off... and then proceeded to blow the fuck up... so much for spending my two days off from work/college playing new vegas.

how hard is it to make sure a game works before you release it?

The quest worked for me but you have to make sure you just listened to the guy in the tower talk on the radio and run to the monorail immediately and disarm the bomb if you kill him before it takes off no matter what

Does anyone have the same problem FINDING the bomb materials to blow up the monorail? The Spy told me he hid it in the garbage can by the ticket booth, but no garbage anywhere has it.

Its still I put a Curse on you, but on the other side.

I have the exact same issue. The bomb is nowhere to be found.

Did the quest, it worked just fine.

The bomb is inside the monorail for those who look for it outside the wagon.

I am looking for the explosives in the trash can inside the terminal at Camp McCarren. The guy told me to look there, and the quest pointer is pointing at it, but I cannot interact with it in any way.

I think it's in the vent nin the corner.

Afraid I didn't get that far. I was one step away from getting into the monorail and it took off.

Unfortunately there is no vent nearby, and no sign of the explosives. The guy (and the quest) clearly stated it was "in the trash can". Hmm, perhaps this is an actual bug?

Worked fine for me, Steam version with full updates.

Here's what I did:
1. Wait for midnight and enter the tower.
2. Immediately stop (maybe even crouch) and listen to the entire dialogue.
3. Kill the spy and take the activation codes holodisk from the body.
4. Dash straight to the monorail. If you talk to Hsu, the train will take off and explode before you can reach it.
5. Disarm the bomb by using the activation codes on it.
6. Report to Hsu and profit.

Also check that the script update is enabled in the data files.

The vent is inside the train, far left corner, next to a door. It's vertical and near the floor.

I appreciate the help, but this is not seemingly related to my problem. What train are you talking about?

I am in the terminal at Camp McCarran, and just spoke to a guy named Capt. Ronald Curtis. For some reason he gave me a quest to get some explosives (I have not done any other part of this quest chain, this is the first quest I got). The quest says, and I quote:

"Pick up the explosives in the in the (the typo exists in the text) trash can by the ticketing counter at the Camp McCarran terminal building."

That is the only entry for the quest.

Im too busy killing ghoul reamers and then dying to rigged motorbikes to be of any help, but quite a few things seem to be broken, such as joe cobb getting stuck between 3 other npcs so I cant kill him and disguises not working at all.

I had a quest that was bugged but I found that starting a new ame fixed that and made a bunch of new bugs.

*** *** ***SPOLERS SPOILERS SPOILERS*** *** ***

The Remember when you get to the town of Novac (Or Nipton, the one with the large dinosaur in it with the sniper) and the sniper gives you the quest to get rid of the zombies at the facility (forget the name). Well when I got there I almost did the quest. I had the components needed to help launch them off and my game bugged so I could never enter the sewers that they were in. I was pissed. I'd spent about 3 hours to look for a loop hole to get around that quest and still do the main story line but I never did.

I started a new game and it was fine. All was good. The quest was actually back to normal and because it was near the start I didn't lose that much time playing. However abunch of new bugs have appeard. Nothing game breaking but the biggest 1 I've seen was Ghost (at the Outpost) was not on the roof. I thought she probably melted into a wall or something but she was actually standing to the back to the base behind one o the buildings. Thank god that's all I've found so far.

I haven't had that quest (I put a spell on you) yet but I'll be avoiding it like the plague now. Or is it a story quest?

1) not disappeared, they've been told to wait. This happens in a few quest lines without them telling you they've been told to wait. Just retrace your steps, you'll find them.

2) legitimate

3) you ransacked the place, in the process killing people and taking things, if any of those people or things were related to the main quest, then thats why you failed it. I can't personally confirm they were, but I highly doubt you failed a quest for no reason.

That seems to be the Legion way of doing the monorail quest, one that will, in theory, end with you setting the bomb in the train. The train is on the upper floor, at the left side of the terminal if you have your back to the camp entrances.

Rocket ghoul quest is a story quest, but it definitely is optional. I talked the sniper into divulging the information for free and only did the quest afterwards as a gesture of good will loot and experience.

huh. Never did the quest.
Sorry i cant be of help.

Oops. I meant the "I put a spell on you" quest. My fault, I didn't really make that clear.

Thanks for the advice though, I'll do that if my game bugs up again.

quest is bugged! STAY AWAY UNTIL ITS FIXED!

So can anyone tell me if it changes much in the game afterward if the monorail does explode. I have 3 saves, two of which will take me back at least 10 hours and the other is a save from right after I talk to Hsu and right before I go out the door to diffuse the bomb. I think I'm just going to say this one's a lost cause for me.

To help alot of people out, i found out how to get the monorail to NOT blow up. All you have to do is crouch and walk up to it, deactivate it, then crouch and walk away. If you try to run out of the door and back to Hsu, the damn thing blows up.

For me, this leads to another glitch where I can't actually turn in the quest. I'll crouch, diffuse bomb both with explosives/science and activation codes (have a save from just before I go through the terminal door so I've done this in every possible way I can think of), crouch out and exit the terminal without the train leaving, report to colonel Hsu and all I get are the normal speech options. I tried every speech option and nothing.
