DICE heeds 4chan's request... For Dinosaurs.

In a action that I can only describe as Bungie level community interaction, Gustav Halling of DICE tweeted the following:

"Did you notice the dinosaur in our E3 #Bf3 demo? =) http://i.imgur.com/xkvwS.png #just4fun"

This linked to the following image:

As you can imagine, 4chan is now ecstatic (NSFW, of course)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long story short:

- person from activision (supposedly) posts on /v/, asking why /v/ despised call of duty so much, and what they could do to improve it;

- /v/ replies by asking for dinosaurs.

- DICE see's this, and puts a toy dinosaur in the e3 trailer.

- DICE tweets a image of said 4chan thread and the dinosaur

- 4chan goes nuts.

That is absolutely hilarious.

Excellent marketing and all, but I just love the fact that this sort of thing happens.

Can you call it derailing a thread when it was never 'on' the rails to begin with?

Pre-ordered. I'm not even kidding.

Fanfuckingtastic!!!

What else is there to say?

I....I.....words fail to express my happiness. Never bought a BF game till now. This is marketing done right.

Quoting anonymous here(Yes, I know there are a lot of them in the post...)

"Throw in a T-rex and we'll talk."

Now that made me lol big time.

Absolutely incredible. I don't even play Battlefield but the inclusion of dinosaurs will definitely gain my interest.

I would have loved to have seen that staff meeting.

"Now in last weeks agenda we agreed you'd conduct market research to improve the battlefield franchise. What did you find"
"We need dinosaurs"
"... err"
"Literally not kidding"
"You should probably leave"
"Already packed up my desk"

They have focused on copying Call of Duty in every way that makes Battlefield not be Battlefield for this game and even in their trailers they can't take their eyes away from Call of Duty.

Hooray for small multiplayer maps and a linear campaign. At least they can make a joke about the one difference from CoD they have shown so far.

So good. I want this game now. I'll be driving a tank in the ocean, and then BAM! Pterodactyl will run up and bite my treads off then swim away. Crazy.

Also... am I the only person who likes linear campaigns in their fps?

I have a feeling this will take after it's predecessors and include huge multi-player maps like in Battlefield 2. Also, am I the only person who likes linear single player in my fps's? I dunno, I feel the two just work well together.

Yep.

More devs need to interact with their consumers and fanbase like this.

I'm adding DICE to the my list of devolpers who listen to their fans.... Bungie, Gearbox, Valve... and Dice.

The battlefield gameplay was so beautiful anyway, after watching it the COD graphics just looked bad.
I don't normally buy fps's but I will definitely buy this.

Oh dear god this is the greatest thing I have ever seen ever. I wasn't even considering BF3 until now.

What are you even talking about?

How would you make a campaign for a FPS that isn't linear unless its some kind of FPS/RPG hybrid like Fallout3. You expecting Battlefield Scrolls 3: Skypwn or something?

And small multiplayer maps? Wheres this coming from?

Well, if you think 64 players is small ...

Ok. So 4chan got their dinosaurs.

Next for their demands to be put in games....Lolicon. :/

Don't forget Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed 2 was basically the result of everyone being gathered round a big table and told "This is a list of everything people hated about AC1. FIX IT!" and what resulted is probably my favorite single game of all time.

Also Bioware (although some may argue that they listened to the feedback from ME1 a little too well)

OT: Wow, DICE will even try and please 4CHAN!?!? They really must need the money...

Excuse me?

Comparing them to bungie in regards to how they interact with their fans is the HIGHEST complement I can give.

I mean more of fan-dev interaction.

Bungie, Gearbox, and Valve all reguarily either talk with their fans on their sites on a multidaily basis, and go the extra mile for them with ARGs, and other events.

Other devs may LISTEN, but few directly talk back.

I remember that thread!!

I'm glad that there's a developer who actually listens to the community.

Frostbite 2 does look quite good.

Well played, Dice. Well played.

Mean EA stealing this poor indie dev's idea :/
NOT TO MENTION THIS GAME HAS FUCKING ROBOTS AND JET PACKS

I've been raving about DICE for ever, now do you see why??
Fucking awesome, that's an even better challenge to MW3 than their free online services!

have you seen the new maps? some of them are HUUUGE, and hey are also releasing a map pack (free if you preorder the game) with a couple of old favorite maps from bf2. There are 64 players so making the maps small wouldn't really work all that well. The new engine looks fantastic, way better than what mw3 has shown us, and BF3 got dedicated servers, which is yet to be confirmed with mw3.

To each their own I guess. Sorry, I was a little concerned that you were meaning to insult their hospitality.

What? Plenty of things in the Halo games are from community suggestions. The disk-art for the ODST multiplayer disk is a screenshot from a community member. Every week Bungie hosts a community contest to create pictures/pieces of art based on something from the Halo universe. Every matchmaking update is done based on what the community wants(even if what they want is something fucking stupid like Spartan Laser and Rocket Launcher matchers... seriously, why did they ask for this?!). Before Halo was under complete control of Microsoft, Bungie made the Halo map packs free for everyone after a few months.

Bungie does their community good.

... And thus manly tears were shed on that faithful day.

I didn't realize that it took so much effort to create a matchmaking lobby :O

Making one that the community wants and enjoys is hard though. Which is why Bungie asks for input, and makes changes based on feedback. Every month it does this, wheras most developers tend to ignore it, or put out updates that are months apart and don't fix most of the main issues.

Activision you failed. DICE keep on trucking now I may pre-order the game.

Well I couldn't enjoy those playlists because Bungie locked me out of everything for not having all the mappacks in Halo 3 D:
