Hell, the email quoted above says even the person being investigated can't be contacted about the outcome of an investigation as a result of the company's privacy policy, but it's apparently OK to give you this kind of information? | |

So here we have cullina claiming they managed to get details of Maximumtacos ban, information not even maximumtaco could get, or even rock paper shotgun either... Ok... and thus far all cullina has posted is stuff we already know/is available, ToS, stuff taco has said already, etc. Hmm... some top notch journalism right here, claims theres no reputation to lose yet wont even fill in where they write for... Someone is either badly trolling OR wrongly employed and EA should be sued for data protection misuse. That or its trolling + EA should be sued for misuse and police should be involved for someone impersonating tacos. No "journalist" would just brush off the fact of they managed to get personal information about a person over a ban, there would be a much bigger story in the fact they managed to acquire that information with such ease. BTW Cullina, unless you preordered SWTOR off Origin it wouldnt show on it. If you are a "gaming journalist" then its rather surprising you don't even have an EA/Origin account. And at the end of the day it still doesnt make it right to ban people from all their games for forum posts. | |
He had data that I did not give out, although for some reason he was off by a day in each case, and the specifics of that data was HIGHLY mis stated, to the point of outright lying. I am going to dump every single email I have given to EA. I've just given them to a few people, so I might as well share them all with the world now. It will contradict quite a few things being said right now by EA. Also, I am told by a friend that my battlelog profile is appearing again. This will not affect my actions. I am a longsuffering man, but when anyone tries to serve me a shit sandwich, I will not under any circumstances eat it. Ok guys- I don't want to get my hopes up too hard right now, but I just got off the phone, and I might just be about to go harvest someone's tags owed me. Fingers crossed. However, they could give me my account back, let me personally ask the guy who nerfed the G3 to undo it, mail me custom physical dogtags, 2-10 BF3:SE keys for my friends, properly update my veteran status like their broken linking system wouldn't do, and level me up to make up for lost time... and the aforementioned sandwich feeding paragraph a few posts up still applies. I would - I don't know what the equivalent in the US might do, but a company giving away personal information like this in the UK could get a fine of £500,000 and the possibility of prison sentences for breaching the Data Protection Act. That is, assuming you just casually phoned up support and said "can I have someone else's information please?", which is how you presented it. | |

Mhm. Funny thing about hearsay: it doesn't become valid when it's in your favor. You can claim that EA gave you personal information about Tacos' account, but it doesn't change the fact that you haven't presented a shred of your own evidence to support that, and it flies in the face of the evidence that Tacos has actually presented.
And when was the last time EA was forthcoming with admitting fault, especially in a case that exposed the full implications of their rather draconian user-agreement policy?
You mean like they already have? Tacos has already posted the handful of sites that have picked the story up, and they're hardly small-time organizations.

Listening to this recorded phone call sickens me. I once worked in phone farms on a customer service basis and would've been delighted to get a call like yours, from someone who knew their situation well and was polite in spite of frustration. On the other hand, this guy doesn't communicate anything clearly, reads things aloud that will inevitably confuse and frustrate you as an EA consumer, and gives half-assed explanations for matters he can't actually confirm anything for. This stuff sickens me. Your point about the game's vulgarity is particularly stirring, and I'm amazed more people aren't making that point through all that. I understand that I'm a bit late to this party. But legally, once you clicked "Agree" on that terms of service agreement you signed your rights away. I agree it's not ideal. I don't post on EA forums, as I have no need to. Everyone keeps getting mad about their account being banned. You gave all legal rights to EA when you clicked that button. | |
If you think it's worth boycotting one of the largest companies in the industry because they banned you from their useless forums, which you shouldn't be using anyway because they're useless, then I pity you. It's not about self-respect, it's just logic. They wrongfully ban people from some forum that doesn't matter AT ALL, therefore you shouldn't use those forums. I agree with them handing out game suspensions along with their forum suspensions. It actually drives home the point that you can't be a dick on the internet without consequences. Actually you didn't Vargovic, but EA and the lawyers they paid to draft up that TOS are happy you think so. And it bears repeating all the fine things EA has been up to just this year that warrants never giving them another dollar of your money: This is also the same company that has a right to shutdown and remove entitlements from your Origin account if it stays inactive for more than two years. This is the same company that said Origin wasn't spyware when it actually is and collects data for EA for marketing purposes and piracy concerns. This is also the same company that will delete and ban users from accessing their Origin account if they happen to get banned from the forums. | |

I don't necessarily think it's right. I agree with the things that you are saying. Yet from a larger perspective, as a consumer what am I to do? My boycott will only result in not enjoying the games I want to play. Do I agree with what is going on with EA, honestly I can't say that I have an educated opinion enough to comment. All I hear is horror stories about how accounts are being banned, without any backing leading up to the banning. I have played my game just fine since it was released. I only use my gaming computer for gaming, so I don't really care if Origin is corporate spyware. If they were to discontinue my service, they would have to do so for a reason. I don't give them a reason. I play my game, that's it. | |
Use common sense then, what would of made more sense for EA to do here? They could implement a filter that prevented the words from showing up? They could ban people just from the forum, not from use of their legitimately purchased games. This is called a graduated response. | |

They did have some pretty decent titles under their belt, but now, even with decent titles like Bf3 and Me3 I have no interest in playing them with Origin... looks like I'll have to resort to my 360. | |
