EA now issuing permanent Origin bans through content filter

MaximumTacos:
Canuck: you interacted with me me on battlelog forums some time ago. I have no reason to have any form of contact with you after viewing your condescending posts at that time.

You're also kinda late, and misinformed. I am corresponding with EA and have been for some time before your current post, and working towards a resolution for other people who were victimized equally/worse than I was.

Im sorry you feel that way..

as for trying to troll you?? i have checked your post history and my post history and see absolutely sparse contact(almost none tbh) between us at the best of times over the last 5 weeks. In fact looking at your post history i only see 1 interaction between us at all in 7 pages and that certainly does not fit the definition of trolling but if you feel i have trolled you in some fashion i apologize for any mis-communication on my behalf.

I was trying to help bring a resolution to this matter on your behalf and had discussed with my EA contacts your case. They had told me they tried to contact you through other channels including reddit and had no response and were willing to intervene for you. I had a direct email to a person in EA games to contact , bypassing the CS live chat to hopefully have this resolved once and for all.

Your frustration is warranted but you dont have to attempt to paint everyone that is involved in battlelog and Ea as the devil incarnate, especially where there were those and still are those people that were trying to help you out.

But regardless, Im glad your ban has been lifted and you can get back into the game once again. I have the email address on my ea contact if you still wish to get a hold of them to discuss, but i will leave it up to you to take the high road and contact me via pm here or send me a friend request at the battlelog forums for a chat http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/user/CrazyCanukk/ .

Cheers!

So why are EA handing out info to randoms?

MetallicaRulez0:

Redweaver:

MetallicaRulez0:

Mmmk... deprive yourself of Mass Effect 3. I'm sure that will show them!

Yeah, forget having standards, ideals or self-respect. You NEED Mass Effect 3 or you life isn't worth living.

If you think it's worth boycotting one of the largest companies in the industry because they banned you from their useless forums, which you shouldn't be using anyway because they're useless, then I pity you.

It's not about self-respect, it's just logic. They wrongfully ban people from some forum that doesn't matter AT ALL, therefore you shouldn't use those forums.

I agree with them handing out game suspensions along with their forum suspensions. It actually drives home the point that you can't be a dick on the internet without consequences. I wish MORE companies did that *cough* WoW forums *cough*.

As I said, forget about having standards, ideals or self-respect. A video game is infinitely more important than any of those things. Sounds like you have your priorities straight!

No words. Just rage.
Pure, sheer rage.

How about we make a new drinking game? Take a shot every time EA does something evil. You'll be plastered in minutes!

NO NO NO. i don't want to die befoer before christmas

Mekado:

You have a point but, maybe i'm missing something but what has Zynga to do with EA ?

I guess with the known fact that Zynga isnt doing any where near as good as it used to and they axed the majority of their staff who doubted the way Zynga was going (aka figuring a way to sell out massively via public listings etc) and deemed the cut staff as "weak" (theres a nice article or two on numerous business/news sites). I guess whoever it is whos stalking around supposedly pulling whatever contacts they have to try (and looks like fail) and keep bans sticking and whatever other obnoxious behaviour is trying to get themselves a job as an EA forum mod.

If this person is posting other peoples personal information about then log it and call the police, it is a crime after all.

MaximumTacos:
My ban has been lifted... but no word on if the other people have been solved yet, or as to why EA is supposedly giving out "private" info to random callers.

This is not done until it cannot happen to anyone ever again

Glad to hear, but yes until this nonsense stops it isn't over.

ResonanceSD:
So why are EA handing out info to randoms?

I'd like to know this too.

Gearhead mk2:

-Subscription based Tetris?
-Theme park relaunched in a horrible freemium game where you can end up paying $60+ for a single ride?
-Origin/forum bans?
-ME3 plot leak?

Sounds like instant death :)

Damn son, you can take your drink far better than I if you can last that long.

EA apparently needs to make some changes with their customer relations and TOS--as I read it, forum activity can lead to loss of access to your games.

I'm a little confused about the ban, because when I viewed your Battle Log profile page, it appears that you were in-game on 12/5. However, you implied on 12/6 that you were communicating with EA.

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/battlereport/show/8764940/1/362514882/

image

Two days ago was December 5th. *shrug* maybe I'm reading it wrong, or maybe you were still part of a team and joined automatically, whether you were present or not. You had a 0/0 record.

The other thing is the inconsistency which you refer to the post that apparently got you banned. You have been positive, 99% sure and 'can only conclude' that the post from another user--with your name in it--was why you were banned. You don't believe that you quoted the 'NBC' post.

Also, the support person you spoke with and recorded didn't seem to have much information about the specifics of the ban. Apparently, these issues need to be resolved online and not over the phone. I guess that was to show fraggotman or whoever how wrong he was--any other point to that recording?

Also, the email you posted on this thread about your 72-hour ban (which has apparently taken place) had a subject that read something like "Inappropriate content in profile". I don't know if that's the Battle Log profile which shows your latest posts on the forum or something else. That was--what, eight days before the ban? Do EA bans work like VAC bans in Steam, where they may be handed down a few days following the notice?

There seems to be much that needs to be clarified with this story, but it shouldn't distract from the main point of EA's ridiculous policy of linking forum accounts to SP games. Banning MP games for forum asshattery is--well I guess I don't play much online other than EVE and the politicking on their forums is effectively part of the game. You lose your ass, not your access. ;)

They're back pedaling because they've realized that you're calling them on their bullshit, and they don't have anything to counter with. Keep it up!

Anyone claiming that MaxiumumTacos is simply trying to vilify EA needs a reality check; EA has done this to themselves, repeatedly, but treating ALL gamers with little respect and zero trust.

They treat us like cash cows as opposed to customers. Working in customer service, you establish a relationship with your customers and EARN their business. The only reason we keep buying EA games is because they've signed some excellent developers on, and EA or not, I am NOT missing Mass Effect 3.

If I could go to Bioware and hand them $60 directly to get a plain jane version of ME3 installed directly to my PC, I would... but I don't have that choice, instead I'm probably going to have to get it through ORIGIN.

It's funny,

because by doing this it scares people away from the forums and makes it even more inactive.

Maybe if they understood that in the gaming world and forums, things will not be sunshine, rainbows, and FCC censors. And I mean COME ON removing their access to their games? That's just a dick move. Purely dick move.

The guy named Casper (Or close to this) was also in that round and he proceeded to keep on verbally bashing on me after you did so it did happen. Well who's laughing now asshole?

Just so everyone here knows, MaximumTacos started calling me racial slurs after I head-shotted him a few times in a BF3 round. He got his panties all in a bunch. He can't deny it because it did happen. He was judging me based on my username and assumed to know what race I was and started to ignorantly insult me with stereotypical racial insults. 2011 here, I'm pretty sure BF3 wasn't around in 1982. I could be wrong. This is probably not the ultimate own, the ultimate own would be one of the My Little Ponies roundhouse kicking a dude in the nuts.

Call me a skeptic, but I'm not inclined to readily believe someone who creates a new profile just to talk trash.

Back on-topic now:
EA has been acting like a spoiled kid for the past decade or so, always pushing the envelope to see what nefarious deeds they can get away with. I'm glad people are calling them out on stuff like this. It would be nice if EA at least pretended to care about its customers.

DVS BSTrD:
Time to get a console, I guess?

You think a console will save you? You are sorely mistaken

This is shocking.

I thought Activision were pricks for what they do with their game series but... wow. EA, you do realise you're losing customers at a daily rate? There IS a different between monitoring your systems, cleaning out the bad guys and just being genocidal? Also, what's up with this purchasing a digital copy but being forced to download it within 24 hours or you'll recharge for it bullshit? Steam doesn't do it nor does Xbox Live.

Fuck your Origins, EA, it's borderline unlawful and certainly not keeping a good relationship with your customers. I'm going to stick to console versions of your games, but should that shit leak out onto 360 I'm giving you my Activision treatment - never buying a game again until you change your business practice. Good luck EA, my opinion seems to be the majority opinion. Anyone up for some Bathesda / Ubisoft?

Nothing ties us to your companies, we choose to fall under it for your games. We stop buying for a few months, you go bankrupt. GAME OVER. Play fair or don't play at all, it's the consumers who hold all the cards so stop pretending you do. Under Bankruptcy you lose all IP; other publishers, ones in our good books, will clean up those rights whilst the same developers will make the same games just with a different logo on the box.

You're putting yourself in a situation here, EA; one you don't want to be in.

#StopWhatTheFuckYouAreDoingBeforeYouFuckYourselvesOverViaPublicRelationsAndTheLaw

It's funny because these publishers exist because of capitalism but are trying to exert a totalitarian regime over their "Customers".

Edit: Comment 300! Woop!

Why aren't Anonymous trolling the shit out of EA for this? I know they've become a bit crap recently, but I'd support their hand in this.

and that's why so many people turns to TPB and piracy

I'm kind of late to the Party, but glad you have finally got things sorted.

But what's the best plan of action for people in similar situations to yourself. I have tried going through the same channels as you have but I've hit a brick wall. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Thank you

I've said it before and I'll say it again. EA is the Satan of the gaming industry and I hate them with an absolute passion. It annoys me more that they bought Bioware, who are my favourite game developers ever. I think I will be choking on my own vomit knowing I'm handing them money for a copy of Mass Effect 3.

Hey, remember when they said "all Mass Effect 2 DLC will be free because it's not right to make you pay for it when you paid for the game as a complete package" then went "APRIL FOOLS! Ahhhh, we got you guys good."

Best plan of action would probably be to make a lot of constructive noise on high traffic forum like Tacos.

pliusmannn:
and that's why so many people turns to TPB and piracy

It sucks that EA and Acti own so many developers. Get banned from anything EA is tied to and you may as well just load up TPB permanently. Sad thing is that boycotting stuff hurts the devs more then EA, since EA is more likely to cut the little guys away before hurting themselves.

With EA trying to get Origin in the Wii U I think console owners should be getting more and more worried (even though you can still be caught out now-a-days).

Also, damn Stargate (re-watched it recently) every time I read about Origin I'm reminded of the Path of Origin. I guess the comparison is kind of apt though. Follow or be destroyed. Hallowed are the Ori.

Mmmm getting too negative for my tastes.

I was perm banned from all EA services for swearing so in turn I took Battlefield, all my NHL games to Gamestop and traded them in for store credit. I have no intentions of ever purchasing another EA product ever again.

Cheers!

I had called EA on the phone for support for my PSN account not being active on BF3 since it wouldn't connect to battlelog for some reason. Anyway I had to call 3 times I got dropped the first time. The 2nd time I couldn't get through. The audio quality was extremely noisy. The guy on the phone sounded like he was on a cell phone in a crowded subway system.

I got it on the ps3 since I already tried the BF3 beta on the PC. Origin was awful.

Also Canukk them trying to reach him through other websites like reddit is not at all in anyway shape or form a legitimate way to reach him. If the info is there to ban his BC2 via steam shouldn't you have his phone number or something? It seems more like snooping.

I heard about stuff like this a while ago. It just makes me sick. I will not buy another EA game again, but that's something I decided before I even read this thread. Hell, maybe after almost all would-be customers pirate their games, EA will be forced into submission. That would be a sweet, sweet victory. Highly unlikely though.

Quickly! Get a dozen lawyers, a few sexy women, and we march on EA headquarters!

If someone did, i would join them, i wont lie. Taking down tyrannical overlords is something ive always wanted to do, and EA is proving to be one of the worst in history.

More on topic, i cant believe theyre using an auto filter for a ban system. That doesnt even sound like a good idea. On pen and paper it would sound even worse!
*Scribbles it down* Its not only worse, but possibly the stupidest thing on paper i own.

I'd still like to know how Cullina was able to get information about MaximumTacos' account status when nobody else was able to...

So crazy canuck, from another canadian to you - why have all my gaming accounts been banned? I recieved a 72 hour ban from your forums for language - which I'll admit I kind of deserved but find hypocritical in light of the fact that the voiceovers in your game have nothing but fbombs all over the place - so why is it now I can't access BFBC2? It's not connected whatsoever with Origin or Battlelog. I can't access any games I've purchased, perhaps you'd like to comment on the legality of this?

To get this straight: Your company released game which AT BEST was in a beta stage on release date. Your company forces Origin and the social networking site Battlelog on us. The Dev (DICE) in an attempt to mitigate the disaster that was the release of BF3 releases patches which are little more than placebo's - the same issues that were causing players to rage all over the forums (CTD's, Rubber banding, lag, disappearing textures) are still present two months after release. I go on the social network you forced on me to complain, use a swear word and get banned from my legitimate purchases. And you wonder why people pirate games?

Let's not forget this fact. Battlelog forums moderators are useless. The entire forum reads like the /b/ section of 4chan, with far worse language than what I've used - and yet the random banhammer falls on me? Makes sense.

Your arrogance and your obvious ignorance of consumer law aside, you should seriously get off your power trip and address the policy in question instead of trying to make yourself look like a knight in shining armor.

A permaban is really a business opportunity for EA. if you really care about playing the game, then you will buy all your games again under a different account.

"Yes! We will lock them out of our game, so they buy it again, instead of resorting to piracy! Genuis!"

I know you are joking, but that stupidity is just SO EA.

Genius indeed.

Your account probably WAS attached to origin/battlelog, you just didn't realise it. As i said, Origin is just a rebranding of all of EA's other rubbish, from accounts to store, etc. Playing BC2 requires an EA Online account which you can guess, is now under Origin.

I can agree battlelog forum is a cess pool, far far worse gets said than the majority of people who end up banned, my theory why they avoid the banhammer is because they fail to spell even the most basic of insult or are actually smart enough to expect bans and autodetection so they intentionally miss letters or add letters, etc.

Either way, forum mods on battlelog? they dont seem to do anything except post news and sticky it. Maybe lock a thread that a dev posted in.

EA shouldn't be leaving bans up to a robot, they should just auto censor words like every other forum if its that much of a problem.

Either way i'm done posting there, i dont even read them to make sure theres no temptation to post. I wont be buying any more EA games as i dont deem there to be much value in them any moree.

Gearhead mk2:

People really ought to either just stay away from origin and EA, or just stay off their dumbass forums

Why does anyone post on an EA forum? I avoid them like the plague syphilis. I don't mind Origin but EA has some dodgy practices that make interacting with them, except when unavoidable, a bad idea.

yea, cant agree with this post more. the official forums are absolute trash. while im not saying "its your fault for posting in such an awful forum" or anything, because clearly you did nothing wrong, in the future everyone should avoid origin forums because they are just bad, in both content and functionality.

I've been bookmarking this case ever since I first got a whiff of something smelly.

My conclusions so far are simple:

1) Stay the hell away from any and all EA online forums
2) Do not buy anything EA

If we keep throwing money at them, they'll turn into the Socialist Third Shariah Reich of Catholic Anarchists. And we can't have that, now, can we.

I still cherish some of my first C=64 ECA titles. Crap games, really. But they came wrapped in boatloads of lovingly crafty cardboard, and ECA just seemed so friendly back then. Now, they're basically some real-life Cyberdyne Systems with automated user buttplug harrassment, and they even expect to get paid for pestering and annoying us. I don't seem to like that very much.

And I really can't condone whatever it is they're doing to/with Battleforge. It started out fresh, and now it's like... well... how to put it into words. CUT OFF THE CASHCOWS LEGS SO WE CAN KEEP IT BLEEDING. ADD SOME CRACK AND LSD TO THE BLOOD, WE CAN'T LET THE USERS STOP PLAYING. PLAYING MEANS PAYING, BUT THE USERS MUST NOT NOTICE IT. ADD RUSSIA. RUSSIANS LOVE TO PAY BY PHONE, IT'S CONVENIENT. That's some scary stuff right there.
