http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_%28series%29 Best RPG series of all time. Destroyed by the terrible 8th and 9th chapters. Deserves a proper sendoff, or a reboot.
X-wing games. Hell, the space combat simulator genre for all I care, and not the arcade ones like Rogue Squadron, I mean the ones where you sit in a cockpit and manage your fighter's power distribution while shooting down torpedoes aiming for your exhaust pipe and chasing down tie fighters, interceptors, and bombers going for your capital ship which is also engaged with the enemy capital ship which is 50% more powerful and bigger than your capital ship.
Fear Effect. My favourite PS1 game series, with both games in the series being in my top 10 of all time. Imagine Resident Evil as written by Bioware after a long weekend of watching Hong Kong action movies. It had terrific writing and voice acting in an era when that was definitely not the norm. The third game in the series was cancelled by Eidos in 2003, during development, and there's only a few cut scenes to give an idea of it. If I had the money to burn, I'd burn a lot of it just to get my hands on that game.
Lost Kingdoms: Real time, monster summoing card battles? HELL YES!
And a new shiny Legacy of Kain.
The Suffering. Two of my favorite games for the PS2, and the ones that really got me into third-person shooters. I thought the creature designs were really cool, and I love to see what could be done with current gen hardware.
Does Silent Hill count? It "died" when the Americans took over. Or we could just resurrect survival horror in general. Also, another vote for the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series. And also Freespace.
Now that Hudson has gone under, I would dedicate those resources to bringing back Bomberman. I would fund it, but also demand 3 conditions.
Spyro the Dragon. Because, as far as I'm concerned, the last true Spyro game was Year of the Dragon. I played Enter the Dragonfly, and my opinion of the series was tarnished forever more. The reboots with Cynder really weren't up to scratch, either. Getting the old Insomniac style games back would be a dream come true. Hell, even an HD remake of the original trilogy would be welcome. Either that, or Sin. It was a late 90's FPS, in the same vein as Half-Life, but it took itself a lot less seriously. It was a lot of fun, and the first FPS I ever played through. A sequel was released, but in episodic form, and only Episode 1 was ever produced. I'd like to bring that back, too.
Oh geez where to start.. Fire emblem for a start, or i'll at least take it away from the 3D land and bring it back to the awesome 2d which it used to have while bringing it back to america AS WELL AS bringing back the system where you marry and have children. Amped, I loved amped 3 and i don't know where it went D: that game gave me so many lols, my favorite snowboard game of the century :D Popolocrois, not really a series but i'd at least throw my money at the devs and say 'PUT THIS SHIT ON SOMETHING WHICH CAN RUN IT WITHOUT STUPID LOADING SCREENS AT EVERY TURN!!!', another game i loved, it was AMAZING! only bad part about it were the loading screens. Mother, we all loved the adventures of Ness and Lucas, we want to see them again Banjo Kazooie, While banjo kazooie n&b was a highly underrated game (not the most challenging, but it was extremely fun) it felt more like a spin off from banjo kazooie, i'd love a banjo threesie or something (trisie?). Megaman battle network, holy freaking balls you all have no IDEA how much i LOVED the megaman battle network series.. SERIOUSLY! all of the games from megaman battle network 1 to megaman battle network 6 cybeast blahblah were just freaking amazing. ALSO i'd like to revive the anime that went with it. there are more but i don't think anyone wants to listen to me rant more
Freespace. Or, hell, the entire Space-sim genre. Yeah, it is kinda still here with Egosoft and the X-series, and there's a couple of little blips like Evochron Mercenary and SOL, but man, what I'd give to have another proper Freespace and/or Freelancer game... Also Metal Arms.
You deserved better dammit... The creator had a whole trilogy planned too.
Right now, I really, really, really want to see a return to Homeworld. And I want to see it done right, rather than dumbed down for the sake of "accessibility" and/or "attracting players new to the Homeworld series". Homeworld 2 was accessible without being condescending. But somehow, I get the strongest feeling that if one of most well-known development studios were to start work on a Homeworld sequel today, the end result would be... ugh. That's just my cynicism talking, though. Hell, I'll even take Homeworld 2 with updated graphics (incidentally, same with Starcraft but that's had its sequel released fairly recently so it probably doesn't count for this particular thread... I'd absolutely love to play Starcraft's campaigns with SC2 graphics though!).
Knights of The Old Republic. Not The Old Republic, but KNIGHTS OF The Old Republic.
Aw man, too many good series dried up in the aether: *Legacy of Kain (even with Tony Jay dead, they can't just leave it like this!) Then there's all the good individual games that never got even a first sequel (like Psychonauts): *Jet Force Gemini
Metal Arms or Battlezone Metal Arms because it was an interesting universe, and we never got to see the story properly concluded. Battlezone because Action-RTS games are awesome. Seriously, I'd take it over Starcraft anyday, because when I'm in the match-ending charge in Battlezone, I GET TO DRIVE THE BIG TANK!
Amen. While I admit I haven't played it (I have U4 from GOG, but haven't had any time to play it), I've followed Spoony's Retrospective, and would really like to play through the storyline...I'm kinda hoping that a really, really ambitious team of Skyrim/Oblivion/whatever modders can recreate it on a more modern engine. I'd even be willing to buy Morrowind if that happened.
What this guy said. I'm sure the MMO is great and all, but give me another cool single player Star Wars based RPG, please.
I loved those games and
that one too! | |
With a lack of truly great console JRPGs this gen, I'd like to see some of the older franchises come back. Breath of Fire, Grandia, Wild Arms, Suikoden...
It's funny, I was literally just thinking on this today. Point for point. I came to four primary conclusions/choices, one of them being Psychonauts. The other three were as follows: [edit]
Zone of the Enders and the Tales of series. Tales of is practically dead in America and while it may be announced that Tales of Graces F is coming to the states, I won't believe it until it's sitting on a retail shelf.
I have been going through my PS2 pile of shame and I restarted Rouge Galaxy...but that made me miss the Dark Cloud series, specifically Dark Cloud 2. If they made a high definition sequel of that I am sure it would look amazing, as long as they stick with the cartoony art style. I miss dungeon crawlers like that that aren't called Zelda
1) Maniac Mansion - The original was a classic and Day of the Tentacle is simply fantastic. Easily my favorite of the point and click genre. 2) Lemmings - Specifically a revival of the 2D greats. Lemmings and Lemmings 2: The Tribes.
Gabriel Knight! And maybe Alundra and MediEvil, too
Dark Cloud had a sequel. In the US it was simply Dark Cloud 2. In the UK it was called Dark Chronicle, and it was amazing!
I have all kinds of nostalgia for StarTropics since it was basically my childhood, and I would love to see it come back.
I'm not sure if it's at all a popular game but I definitely would love a currently gen sequel, 'Spy Fiction' by Sammy Studios
I love it so, I loved all the tech and characters. (Apparently, Sammy Studios is now 'High Moon Studios'...they make Transformer games...*Shutter*)
Resident Evil (Oh ho ho no he didn't) I'd actually like to see Auto Modellista come back. That game was fun and had a very cool art style.
I register myself in here only to say two words. Body Harvest. Even a remake with better graphics will beat a lot of games now.
TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME SPLITTERS!
All of these please, especially Shadow Hearts, this generation needs more (if any) exceptional JRPGS.
I think we could have System Shock 3 without making SHODAN too laughable a villain. It has been over a decade, after all.
I have to go with Masters of Orion, I still play Battle at Antares every now and then.
Yes, this, most definitely. I'll also be unoriginal and request the obligatory Timesplitters and Star Wars Battlefront sequels. I'm tempted to say Interstate, but maybe it's better to leave it as is. If they just brought back Interstate 76 that'd be pretty amazing.

Notch wants to fund a Psychonauts sequel:

If you became rich enough to fund a sequel to a game, which would you choose and what does that game mean to you?
